Nuns can be cunning and sly and falsely accuse others when it suits their needs. I had worked at a school run by nuns. The school recently offered an unreserved apology to ex-students after they said that 2 male teachers had walked into the change rooms when they were changing about 30 years previous. The school thought it would be noble to offer the apology, accept the ex-students word and sell out the staff. A cover up needed to take place at the school so the leaders put in false reports about me so I would take the blame. I wrote a blog about my experience but if I list the title in a youtube comment it the comment gets deleted. If someone wished to read what they did to me, click the red d at the start of this comment and you could find out more.

The accusation of "power and greed" against the bishop and the 1500 + some odd petition signers almost sounds like a political ploy. I want to know who the original petitioners are. Perhaps that some wealthy developer/real estate types, who may or may not be parishioners are after their land and there's something in it for the bishop. Maybe the nuns are hearing accusations against the bishop from the women who come to them, and have notified the Pope? Maybe one of the nuns turned down the bishop's advances?
      I dunno.
But this situation sure does stink. I'm glad the nuns are fighting back. And I'm glad they are using a civil lawyer to do so instead of relying on the Church's none-too-tender internal traditions to defend them. Too many men in the Catholic Church have really bad attitudes toward women and use their lofty positions to persecute and harass us.
And, as we all know, evildoers will often project their corruption onto others to escape accountability.

      Several questions :
If someone supposedly witnessed this nun saying something about an affair, was this when she was either just going under after being given anesthesia, or as she was just waking back up? Because people can be somewhat delirious under those circumstances. She could've been thinking back to someone she dated before she even became a nun - and that person may have been a male priest.
Did somebody within the church hierarchy molest this nun when she was partially incapacitated right after her surgery, and they are covering it up by accusing her of willingly having an affair?
Was the bishop himself caught doing something sexually inappropriate, and someone within that order of nuns was going to turn him in, and this is how he retaliated?

This is NOT just a “theological dispute”. This is absolutely a legal dispute. If the one nun accused of breaking her vows was removed, that would have been a theological and internal issue. Shutting down the WHOLE chapel is an infringement of the 1st amendment constitutional rights of every Catholic in that community, and seizing property like phones and computers, where evidence to support the nun being innocent might have been able to be retrieved, and other physical seizures is against the 4th amendment. The Church is not a corporation, a lot of the funds for things a chapel needs comes from donations of the local community. Unless the diocese and the vatican agree to permanently shut down the chapel, no property should have been moved, as that is the purview of law enforcement, NOT the church, as the Vatican can’t prove that property is theirs and not property bought by the community or the nuns themselves. Now they’ve got a financial dispute on their hands as well. They should not have taken ANY action without law enforcement directly involved, not because a nun maybe did or maybe didn’t have sex, but because you’re tampering with data and files and physical resources, and now you can be accused of theft- no the Vatican does not own everything inside the chapel or that the nuns own. The nuns have every right to sue. Especially because shutting down a whole chapel over one person is unusual, the nuns could argue they didn’t have time to prepare for the sudden shut-down and property seizures. Even a landlord who owns a house or property has to give notice of an eviction or change of keys and locks. What the diocese did here is beyond sneaky and throwing their weight around. The bishop yes, but the whole diocese and Vatican are complacent for not having done anything to prevent this level of power-hungry overreach to happen.

@@disavowalf3351 , While doped up in intensive care after emergency surgery for a heart infection that nearly killed me, the nurses asked me how I felt and I told them "I feel like Elvis is sitting on my chest". The nurses must have thought I was completely out of it from the meds and anesthesia, and I'm sure they got a chuckle out of it; but when they repeated this to my wife (who is also a nurse), she informed them that we had an 18 pound cat named Elvis who would lay on my chest while I watched TV! The point being that is easy to take something out of context, or manipulate someone into an "admission" of something that isn't true, when the person who said it is drugged and in pain, and the person doing the questioning has an agenda. (PS, I too am an atheist).
Anyway, I have to wonder why this Bishop has it in for this group of nuns and their monastery. Could it be that he himself has been up to something untoward and the nuns have knowledge of it? The Catholic Church's track record has an awful lot of black marks on it.....
