The Sheriff is correct. I was a police officer way back, in the 70's, and 80's. I am 72 years old. I still have nightmares, and thoughts, of some horrific things I have seen, and heard. I hope all of the law enforcement community, who worked this case, gets mental health services offered, to them. They never offered that, in my day.

@@ceceprincess4758 Some states, as part of their Medicaid program will pay for family caregiver. In California, it's called In-Home Support Services. Disabled children qualify for it and the state will pay family member to be their caregiver instead of paying nursing homes or skill facilities.
I was severely abused as a child. Social Services came out but left doing nothing. It would go on many years until I was 12 and it couldn't be ignored anymore. We need more Sheriff Grady's in this world.

I am a retired RN for a decade now who cared for adults and infants on ventilators during part of my career. I have taken care of those types of wounds on various patients. I cannot fathom how anyone could sit and watch that progression of disease in such a little body. He is free now and in my heart he is with the Angels. Thank you for putting out such a heart rending report.
He was set free when he was pronounced brain dead. Brain dead is dead. The machines were keeping his organs functioning but he was dead already. I bet this case goes no where.

There's only one reason I can think of, why ANYONE would go against medical advice and take such a sick, hopeless case of a brain death injured child, home. And that's to collect the money for "caring" for the child and the disability/SSI check for this kid. That's why they DIDN'T want anyone coming in, they didn't CARE about the child, they CARED about the check. As soon as the gig was up and the baby started decomposing, they KNEW it was game over and that's probably why they didn't allow anyone to see the baby. Saying the baby was sleeping and they didn't want to wake the baby's ridiculous, the kid was in a coma, which means they're always "sleeping". I'm a disabled RN, I'm telling you that NO ONE is that dumb, that the horrific smell of a decomposing body, wouldn't alert ANY normal person to CALL for help asap. Those bedsores, that were SOO deep the spinal cord was exposed and there was NO anus, just exposed intestines, that does NOT happen overnight. It takes MONTHS or longer to get to that point. The abdomen was green and bloated because they were likely continuing the tube feedings into the baby's DEAD BODY in order to continue the facade that they were still ordering and recieving the formula or liquid feedings & supplies needed to continue caring for the poor baby. GREEN is caused by gangrenous tissue that's DEAD AND ROTTING. Open, dead tissue attracts flies, who lay eggs which turn into maggots that feed on the dead tissue. I have NO doubt that this was the most HORRIBLE thing any of them have ever witnessed. I've seen some things I will NEVER UNSEE. My first day as a student nurse, my patient had tried to kill himself. He put a shotgun under his chin and pulled the trigger. He blew half of his face away and lived. Minus half of his face. 😳 But I have NEVER heard of or seen a baby in such a horrific condition that this poor baby was in. I can only hope that the baby didn't have the capacity to feel ANY pain. But that does NOT excuse the actions and inaction of those so called parents. That baby was a paycheck, nothing more to them. And it does require a LOT OF care to manage a child who's on a ventilator and gets tube feedings. But THEY made the commitment to do it and there's NO other reason than $$. Even if in the beginning they hoped the baby would wake up, the accident happened in 2020. At some point they had to realize the baby wasn't going to wake up and that there were NO changes in the condition. And I wonder if they were negligent in the drowning situation as well. This is just sick, and I hope they get the maximum penalty allowed by the law. No one should show ANY mercy on them, they showed NONE for their own baby.
Same here! My son is 19 and autistic as well as developmentally delayed. He can be a handful and drives me crazy sometimes, but I love him and my other son so much! I can never ever fathom hurting my children! Long story, when he was 9, his teachers abused him physically and mentally. They hit him with hard covered books, their hands, scream at him, and would lock him in a dark closet for hours!! Again, he's 19 now, but I still get so emotional talking about it.....oh yeah, and the teachers were reassigned... and my husband and I had a truancy case filed on us because our son was too terrified to go to school, but he could never tell us.
As a nurse I know what a stage 5 pressure sore is. Trust me, you don’t want to know how bad of a pressure sore this is. This would cause an extreme amount of pain and discomfort. I’m so angry about this. Regardless of this child’s medical problems, I’m sure there is a family out there that would have loved to have this child as a part of their family.
the child was already dead when they first brought it home. The child was brain dead and only kept "alive" by the breathing machine it was hooked up to. The child had no brain activity. It didn't feel anything, because it was already brain dead.

As a family member to my sister, who had a brain tumor and was in a coma for three years. My mom cared for her night and day until her passing. How could anyone do this to someone who can’t even care for themselves. They will pay for their cruelty.
Because the baby was brain dead. Therefore the baby died at 10 months old. A little body of that size cannot last 2 years on a ventilator being fed through a tube without decomp. Even if the baby would have been in a hospital setting the body would not have lasted because it can't because it is already dead. When my son pass away I held him for hours I mean hours and it took everybody to let me let him go. So I understand. But blaming these parents for not wanting to let their baby go is not okay cuz regardless being on a ventilator from 10 months old 2 years old the baby's body will not last especially with it being brain dead that means it already past there's no hope it will never come back. The baby did not suffer because it did not feel anything because it already passed away. If you have a brain waves and you're put on a ventilator and you're in a coma that's a totally different scenario.

I know a couple who does foster care in MO that abused and tortured my little brother. Starting at age 4 he was r@pd by their son and would put out cigarettes on him. When we told the counselor he called us liars. Years later at 15 he ran away, the state didn’t believe him still. It’s sickening and shocking what kind of people sign up for childcare for all the wrong reasons.

You being a retired nurse should know that a baby that is brain-dead is legally dead therefore cannot suffer. The question is what Dr. / Hospital authorized this and why did they allow this to happen. Because a little body on a ventilator will deteriorate and decomp overtime. Maybe the parents just weren't ready to let the baby go yet. Especially seeing as how their other children were perfectly taken care of.

@beckishelton7155 disabled children who are dependents don't receive full benefits most of the time. Let's be clear it wasn't about the check. They made a choice to not pull the plug without a understanding of what that would really mean. They were likely pushed into poverty and doing round the clock intensive care. Having someone come for 1 hour 3 times a week isn't really the type of assistance you need in such situations. They probably started skimping on care as the baby had no reaction anyway so was not showing signs of pain. The baby probably got sores and infected. They likely tried to handle it themselves and then they felt it was too late to ask for help or take him to the hospital for fear of losing their other children and maybe neglect or abuse charges. Then the baby would have deteriorated over the months. 😢 it's horrific and wrong. They deserve to be punished in the worst ways. But it wasn't for money and the story that they had all the help they could possibly need and were even getting income from it is likely a wild misrepresentation of the reality. 😢 I work in non-profit and I see families that have to deal with have extremely disabled family members in the home. They never get anything close to all the help they should have.

When any appointment was missed I also think if your getter ng food or food stamps they should be checked on monthly! This is how children fall thru the cracks. What about other family members? And why were they not watched after the baby was drowned?

The already-incarcerated prisoners are usually told a day or so ahead of time that new prisoners are coming in, and what the crime was. This couple won't like what's done to them; they'll pretty much find out how terribly their baby suffered....and it won't be a one-time lesson. My ex-husband found out the hard way---the really hard way, and it wasn't for a crime as terrible as this, although it was a wicked one.

Also what he describes is what happens when someone is dying but hooked up on machines, the decubitus wound doesn't mean he was neglected, he was just dying and developed these wounds fast. Violin callus I don't think you understand what brain dead means and what being put on a ventilator means. It means the child died ten months old. Not 2 years old And means that a body cannot last on a ventilator for two years without some form of decomp. The poor parents probably couldn't let their baby go so they were holding onto as much and for as long as possible. Especially with her other two children being completely healthy and well taken care of. People are looking at this the completely wrong way. I hold whatever doctor or Hospital that approved of this happening. And why didn't home healthcare reach out to the doctor and say hey we're not able to see the baby? There's nothing anybody could have done to save this baby's life because the baby died at 10 months old. And the Machine has just been keeping it slowly decaying over the last two years. I really don't think this officer really knows what the medical terms of brain-dead means. Or what it means to be on a ventilator for two years being only a tiny baby. I think people are being a little too harsh on these parents and a little bit too judgy.
When the child is rotting i think its a sure thing somebody's at fault. That would be the parents who he lived with. Good, normal parents would be frantically trying to get help.

My sympathy to the detectives who had to see and smell that poor child, especially if they had children themselves. My sympathy also to the jurors who will have to see these photos when they are brought to trial.

I wish he would retire for his own mental health, but selfishly I wish he would never retire as we need more like him. I couldn't imagine knowing all the details of all the cases he has handled over the decades, seeing first hand, pictures, ect. I would probably cry myself to sleep every night.

He died at 10 months old. These "parents" were taking care of a corpse til they had no choice but to call for help. The hospital that released the dead baby back to the parents are the ones that should be accountable for the defilement of this baby's corpse.

I am a nurse with home health experience . Parents are not REQUIRED to have home health for a special needs child with medical issues . It’s their choice . They provide the care when the nurses aren’t there .

I wouldn’t say this originally wanted checks when there baby drowned . I believe they stop doing what they was supposed to for that child and after that child ended up with huge bedsores they didn’t want to ask for help in fear dcf would take there other kids . I don’t believe they was worry about dcf as much as crimnal charges for the neglect of that poor baby . They got lazy and they stop treating him as human . They smelled that smell and saw that the oxygen was too low and most likely waited longer and longer and decided that they had to either pretend they wanted to get emergency help or be faced with not calling for help in the end . Why were they allowed to take it home and collect money they should be prosecuted for fraud, and some people in the county in the hospital should lose their jobs, we should not be spending money to prosecute them for letting a vegetable die. This reminds me of the developmentally disabled lady that was allowed to melt into the living room couch by her parents. She had been starved for so long they found pieces of the couch in her stomach at the autopsy. I'm so glad their other children are out of that situations and I pray they get all the help they need. I hope these parents get abuse charges for the surviving children because they made them live in a house with their baby brother's corpse.
It is absolutely sickening that these so called parents are free to do as they please to their disabled children. Recently here in the UK a 16 year old girl with severe physical disabilities was left to rot and die in her bed surrounded by filth and flies. Her ignorant parents allowed her to become obese only giving her take away food and not washing her or allowing her to use the bathroom. The mother only got 6 years imprisonment and the father 7. 😢
I vaguely remember that story. It was really shocking. I remember the parents explaining that she never liked leaving the couch. Truly a horrific story.

I’m horrified that they have other children and forced them to endure this abuse and neglect of their sibling. Making them live in a home with a decomposing human being. The kids appeared well but no way did they not extend their cruelty, these are exceptionally mean individuals. Rabid dogs are kinder.

The Sheriff is correct. I was a police officer way back, in the 70's, and 80's. I am 72 years old. I still have nightmares, and thoughts, of some horrific things I have seen, and heard.

I am a retired RN for a decade now who cared for adults and infants on ventilators during part of my career. I have taken care of those types of wounds on various patients. I cannot fathom how anyone could sit and watch that progression of disease in such a little body. He is free now and in my heart he is with the Angels. There's only one reason I can think of, why ANYONE would go against medical advice and take such a sick, hopeless case of a brain death injured child, home.
And that's to collect the money for "caring" for the child and the disability/SSI check for this kid.
That's why they DIDN'T want anyone coming in, they didn't CARE about the child, they CARED about the check.
As soon as the gig was up and the baby started decomposing, they KNEW it was game over and that's probably why they didn't allow anyone to see the baby.
Saying the baby was sleeping and they didn't want to wake the baby's ridiculous, the kid was in a coma, which means they're always "sleeping".
I'm a disabled RN, I'm telling you that NO ONE is that dumb, that the horrific smell of a decomposing body, wouldn't alert ANY normal person to CALL for help asap.
Those bedsores, that were SOO deep the spinal cord was exposed and there was NO anus, just exposed intestines, that does NOT happen overnight. It takes MONTHS or longer to get to that point.
The abdomen was green and bloated because they were likely continuing the tube feedings into the baby's DEAD BODY in order to continue the facade that they were still ordering and recieving the formula or liquid feedings & supplies needed to continue caring for the poor baby.
GREEN is caused by gangrenous tissue that's DEAD AND ROTTING.
Open, dead tissue attracts flies, who lay eggs which turn into maggots that feed on the dead tissue.
I have NO doubt that this was the most HORRIBLE thing any of them have ever witnessed.
I've seen some things I will NEVER UNSEE. My first day as a student nurse, my patient had tried to kill himself. He put a shotgun under his chin and pulled the trigger. He blew half of his face away and lived. Minus half of his face. 😳
But I have NEVER heard of or seen a baby in such a horrific condition that this poor baby was in.
I can only hope that the baby didn't have the capacity to feel ANY pain. But that does NOT excuse the actions and inaction of those so called parents.
That baby was a paycheck, nothing more to them. And it does require a LOT OF care to manage a child who's on a ventilator and gets tube feedings. But THEY made the commitment to do it and there's NO other reason than $$. Even if in the beginning they hoped the baby would wake up, the accident happened in 2020. At some point they had to realize the baby wasn't going to wake up and that there were NO changes in the condition.
And I wonder if they were negligent in the drowning situation as well.
This is just sick, and I hope they get the maximum penalty allowed by the law.

Long story, when he was 9, his teachers abused him physically and mentally. They hit him with hard covered books, their hands, scream at him, and would lock him in a dark closet for hours!! Again, he's 19 now, but I still get so emotional talking about it.....oh yeah, and the teachers were reassigned... and my husband and I had a truancy case filed on us because our son was too terrified to go to school, but he could never tell us.

As a nurse I know what a stage 5 pressure sore is. Trust me, you don’t want to know how bad of a pressure sore this is. This would cause an extreme amount of pain and discomfort. I’m so angry about this. Regardless of this child’s medical problems, I’m sure there is a family out there that would have loved to have this child as a part of their family.

Because the baby was brain dead. Therefore the baby died at 10 months old. A little body of that size cannot last 2 years on a ventilator being fed through a tube without decomp. Even if the baby would have been in a hospital setting the body would not have lasted because it can't because it is already dead. When my son pass away I held him for hours I mean hours and it took everybody to let me let him go. So I understand. But blaming these parents for not wanting to let their baby go is not okay cuz regardless being on a ventilator from 10 months old 2 years old the baby's body will not last especially with it being brain dead that means it already past there's no hope it will never come back. The baby did not suffer because it did not feel anything because it already passed away. If you have a brain waves and you're put on a ventilator and you're in a coma that's a totally different scenario.

I know a couple who does foster care in MO that abused and tortured my little brother. Starting at age 4 he was r@pd by their son and would put out cigarettes on him. When we told the counselor he called us liars. Years later at 15 he ran away, the state didn’t believe him still. @beckishelton7155 disabled children who are dependents don't receive full benefits most of the time. Let's be clear it wasn't about the check. They made a choice to not pull the plug without a understanding of what that would really mean. They were likely pushed into poverty and doing round the clock intensive care. Having someone come for 1 hour 3 times a week isn't really the type of assistance you need in such situations. They probably started skimping on care as the baby had no reaction anyway so was not showing signs of pain. The baby probably got sores and infected. They likely tried to handle it themselves and then they felt it was too late to ask for help or take him to the hospital for fear of losing their other children and maybe neglect or abuse charges. Then the baby would have deteriorated over the months. 😢 it's horrific and wrong. They deserve to be punished in the worst ways. But it wasn't for money and the story that they had all the help they could possibly need and were even getting income from it is likely a wild misrepresentation of the reality. 😢
I work in non-profit and I see families that have to deal with have extremely disabled family members in the home. They never get anything close to all the help they should have.

This couple won't like what's done to them; they'll pretty much find out how terribly their baby suffered....and it won't be a one-time lesson.
My ex-husband found out the hard way---the really hard way, and it wasn't for a crime as terrible as this, although it was a wicked one.

This is some bullsh1t. The hospital wanted to kill the braindead child who is... braindead so why r they acting like this is a case of abuse? Also what he describes is what happens when someone is dying but hooked up on machines, the decubitus wound doesn't mean he was neglected, he was just dying and developed these wounds fast. It's impossible to survive on parenteral nutrition for more than 2 years, they should know all of this and stop with the theatrics trying to demonise these parents who most likely were doibg as much as possible for their child.
Violin callus I don't think you understand what brain dead means and what being put on a ventilator means. It means the child died ten months old. Not 2 years old And means that a body cannot last on a ventilator for two years without some form of decomp. The poor parents probably couldn't let their baby go so they were holding onto as much and for as long as possible. Especially with her other two children being completely healthy and well taken care of. People are looking at this the completely wrong way. I hold whatever doctor or Hospital that approved of this happening. And why didn't home healthcare reach out to the doctor and say hey we're not able to see the baby? There's nothing anybody could have done to save this baby's life because the baby died at 10 months old. And the Machine has just been keeping it slowly decaying over the last two years. I really don't think this officer really knows what the medical terms of brain-dead means. Or what it means to be on a ventilator for two years being only a tiny baby. I think people are being a little too harsh on these parents and a little bit too judgy.
When the child is rotting i think its a sure thing somebody's at fault. That would be the parents who he lived with. Good, normal parents would be frantically trying to get help.
The issue arises when what we have today aren’t parents in ANY sense of that word. What I choose to call many today are exactly what they are…breeders and NOTHING else.

I believe they stop doing what they was supposed to for that child and after that child ended up with huge bedsores they didn’t want to ask for help in fear dcf would take there other kids . It was brain dead. The level of retard I have seen in these comment sections is unreal. Does everybody like critical thinking skills the child was medically brain dead. There isn’t a conscious person inside that body. Why were they allowed to take it home and collect money they should be prosecuted for fraud, and some people in the county in the hospital should lose their jobs, we should not be spending money to prosecute them for letting a vegetable die. It never should’ve been sent home on a ventilator it was dead.

This reminds me of the developmentally disabled lady that was allowed to melt into the living room couch by her parents. She had been starved for so long they found pieces of the couch in her stomach at the autopsy. I'm so glad their other children are out of that situations and I pray they get all the help they need. I hope these parents get abuse charges for the surviving children because they made them live in a house with their baby brother's corpse.
It is absolutely sickening that these so called parents are free to do as they please to their disabled children. Recently here in the UK a 16 year old girl with severe physical disabilities was left to rot and die in her bed surrounded by filth and flies. Her ignorant parents allowed her to become obese only giving her take away food and not washing her or allowing her to use the bathroom. The mother only got 6 years imprisonment and the father 7. 😢

I vaguely remember that story. It was really shocking. I remember the parents explaining that she never liked leaving the couch. Truly a horrific story.

I’m glad that baby had no brain activity and probably didn’t feel any of it. That is a blessing. I’m glad it went Home and found the true love of the Father. My heart breaks for the children left here behind. They will forever be scared by this
They always say they have no brain activity because they want them to be taken off life support for their organs. I'm sure this baby was in pain physcially and mentally
I've been a nurse for over 7 years (not pediatric). I already knew where this was going when he started. This happens far too often and it's so sad. This breaks my hearts. Poor baby.
Most people have no idea how far and wide the abuse of not just children is. The media does not report it.

As a father of a special needs child, this hits me extra hard. There is a special place for this type of evil.

I’m horrified that they have other children and forced them to endure this abuse and neglect of their sibling. Making them live in a home with a decomposing human being. The kids appeared well but no way did they not extend their cruelty, these are exceptionally mean individuals. Rabid dogs are kinder.
Rabid dogs are put down. Because there is no cure for them. There is no cure for this kind of evil treatment of a helpless, defenseless person.
Caging them isn't enough.
