How to prepare Gavi Lyte- I had the procedure on 11/30/2019. I kid you not, the key about taking the Gavi Lyte (bowel prep) make sure that the flavor packet you add to the solute (powder) is mixed up very good. Also, when you add the water make sure that you shake it at least for a minute real hard to mix the water and the solute. It's much better if you chill and prepare it at least three-four hours before your first drink. She is right, make sure that you drink out a GLASS (the kind that breaks) so that it retains the cold temperature. The key to drinking Gavi Lyte if you're very sensitive to taste is to make it COLD. I put it in the refrigerator for at least three hours before my first glass. If you haven't scheduled an appointment for this procedure, I highly recommend in the early morning between 9 and 10 if you are sensitive to not eating for a long time (ie. headache).
Fasting with Broth- I did not eat anything (not even broth or anything else) the night of my prep. I had a mild headache in the morning. The night before my liquid diet, I cut out all solid food by 6pm. I followed the recommended diet before the liquid diet. The liquid diet for me was the worst part of this preparation. I am a big guy at 6' 5" and eating broth just doesn't cut it for me. I highly recommend beef broth; the chicken broth was very bland. Drink that broth every 3 hours as much as possible to keep your protein level up.
Some other warnings- Here's a warning and I didn't listen, but it will fade the day of the procedure (Get diaper ointment for your backside, you will need it!) I was panicking that the Gavi Lyte would make me gag and I was pleasantly surprised. Disani water made me gag more than the bowel prep. It's kind of like a thick slightly salty/sweet water. I highly recommend like Mrs. Christy to start at a minimum of 5pm taking the solution. I thought I was supposed to drink it every 10 minutes, but every 15 minutes is fine. In order to make sure that you follow the doctor's orders, measure the amount of solution you're going to drink every dose.
How to drink Gavi Lyte for comfort- I used a Pyrex measuring cup. Be ready for it to come when you least expect it. Also, highly recommended USE A STRAW TO SLURP IT UP and only take about three pauses if possible. It's not that bad. Use wet wipes, DO NOT USE TISSUE, YOU WILL REGRET IT! The day of the procedure, I was panicking because it was still slightly an orange tinge, but when I completely finished using the restroom it turned to a yellow color almost like medium urine.
The day of the procedure- Be aware that Bile from your liver comes down through too during the night. When I got to the procedure place, they were so comforting. They took my vitals and asked about my pain level and I told the RN that I had a slight headache. After the IV was inserted, I could swear my headache went away almost instantly. I was allowed to remain in the area to relax before they wheeled my bed like structure to the procedure room which resembled an operating room.
The Gastroenterologist was very nice to me. The nurse put oxygen on my nose and they told me to lie on my left side of the body and you will have to pull your right leg up towards your stomach in a fetal position almost (not as bad as I described). I closed my eyes for a few seconds and then I heard voices and they said my name and I said are you ready to do the colonoscopy and they said it had already been done. It's not like falling asleep, it's more like you blink your eyes for a few seconds and it's over.
Recovery after the procedure- They rolled me into the recovery area and honestly, I wasn't groggy at all. The doctor came into the area and told me he found two polyps and they are currently being tested for cancer. If you have anxieties for this procedure, I wouldn't worry about anything. They made me feel so relaxed. I am so glad that my experience was a blessed experience.
I apologize for the original post. I was just writing out what came from my mind (i'm autistic). I broke it down into separate paragraphs.

I did partial wake once in a dream like state. I remember saying it hurt, the nurse said something & I was out in a sec. I woke up wide awake back in my cubicle. No pain or anything after. The next morning I was 3 lbs lighter 😆 Other than the temporary partial waking I felt nothing or knew nothing from when I lay on my side to waking after it was all over.
My test was clear. Hope you get along well. The drinking the prep wasn’t fun. I drank mine quickly with a straw. I had it cold from the fridge the first one but found it gave me a head rush. The second one I let it sit on the counter for an hour or so. It might have tasted worse but it didn’t give me chills or head rush. If you like sweet drinks like Gatorade you might not mind it. I found drinking so much sugar filled drink sickly sweet.

Just a few tips that helped me. I did this procedure back in 2007 and used the packet that came with the prep and maybe it was a different product but all I can tell you is that from the 1st sip onwards, I gagged and threw up. This time, instead of the packet I used Crystal Light. I also used a straw and had refrigerated it from the night before, but I added ice to every glass so it was extra cold. I then had 1/8 of a lemon to bite on and a glass of ginger ale to chase each glass with. I agree with her that you need to drink as much as possible w/o stopping. Good luck. You can do it!

I'll have my 5th colonoscopy in a couple of weeks, no big deal. The prep used to be far more difficult a few decades back, there was a 3 day prep which included Cod Liver Oil mixed with orange juice on the last day before the procedure-THAT really cleaned you out! You really felt depleted. Today, they've backed off and it's usually a 2 day prep with less harsh purge medication. No worries, everybody is doing it-relax and enjoy the deep sedation! Lovely hair, June-my wife's used to be that long and same color!

Did you have it done already? I have inflammatory bowel disease and it’s 100% not fun. I just turned 30 and I’m going in for what will be my 4th colonoscopy in the last 10 years. The prep is the worst part: meaning not eating anything substantial for 24 hours isn’t fun and having to drink that crap quickly in a small amount of time is also not great. Otherwise the colonoscopy itself is not a problem, it’s extremely standard and these GI docs do them every single day of their careers. Other than the prep, it’s been a piece of cake in my experience. And the prep like she says in this video is tolerable even though no one wants to volunteer for it 😅 the best part after the procedure is getting to eat whatever your favorite meal is afterwards 😋

Just had mine done. The prep is not as gross as I thought. Its just that you have to keep drinking and drinking. It reminded me of a Margarita with salt without the alcohol LOL. My advise is to make sure the mix is really cold , use a straw, and hold your nose. Also the faster you drink it the faster it works. Drank the mix starting at 6pm and save the last 1/4 mix for the next day. When I was at the hospital I waited about 45 minutes before I had the procedure. Its like an assy line. One after another. When they took me in the room and prepared me I was relaxed and watching the monitor. As they were talking I dont remember going under but I remember watching the procedure on the monitor and wasnt freaking out. It was kind of interesting. I felt no pain or distress. Just totally relaxed. I watched as they cut a couple of polyps. I dont remember going back in my room so apparently what they give you will bring you in and out. Ive heard of some people who don't remember anything. I can vividly remember them talking and watching them work but I think it was pretty quick. I was not afraid of the procedure I was just worried about them finding cancer. They did remove 4 polyps and said they were benign and told me see you in 3 years!

I’m getting my 1st colonoscopy tomorrow at 7am, I am 50 and getting it done because the doctor said I was due, for preventative. I never had it done. Ok the prep tastes horrible, it didn’t have a lemon packet so I’m just drinking it plain, I’ve been on liquid diet all day and started the prep at 5pm, the thought of it makes me gag, lol
Update: so I had the procedure done, got to the hospital at 6:15am and was quickly transported to the pre-op or day prepping room to change clothes, put IV, all the staff from the moment I went in and left was so nice and patience with me. My procedure started at 7:00am and lasted 19 exact minutes, I had 3 nurses, the doctor and the anesthesiologist in the room, all so nice and explained everything to me, I had two types of sedation IV, the last one was a milky one and in seconds I was out! Lol Omg the best sleep ever! Then nurse woke me up after and my hubby was already there and I just said omg I just had the best sleep ever, and she laughed, I had a great experience as I had no pain or discomfort at all, doctor added some air to my colon to see better, but I had no gassy pain, woke up like nothing ever happened, after leaving the hospital went to eat pan con bistec, Cuban steak sandwich, I was so hungry 😋 but excellent experience I must say, I had it done at The University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, UHealth towers, I’m also an employee of UM

The Colonoscopy procedure itself and the discomfort can all depend on whether an Endoscopist or a consultant does it, I've had both and I will NEVER have a consultant do it again, they only have to have done so many in their career to qualify, where as an Endoscopist is far more qualified as they do this day in day out.I could definitely tell the difference between the two.
The same applies to the scope down the throat, I was in absolute agony from start to finish when the consultant did it and the discomfort left when I swallowed lasted for weeks after, where as when Endoscopist did it it went so smoothly with very little discomfort from start to finish.
I MYSELF COULD NOT HAVE ANY FORM OF SEDATION OR ENTINOX DUE TO MY HEART AND LUNG PROBLEMS, SO I WAS AWARE OF EVERYTHING FROM START TO FINISH. I HAD NO PAIN RELIEF DURING MY PROCEDURES WITH THE ENDOSCOPIST, AND I DIDN'T NEED IT EITHER. BUT BY GOD I BEGGED FOR IT WHEN THE CONSULTANT DID MY PROCEDURES, but that barely touched the pain.
So if you people have the option of sedation when a consultant is doing it, take it, you won't be knocked out but you'll be more comfortable and won't remember much, I only know this from having spoke to many many people in recovery after the procedures.
