In the 4th Edition Codex, there was an Ork Boy talking to other Orks, and he talks about how Humans are pink, soft and squishy, not big mean and green like the Orks, but he doesn't point that out as their main flaw or weakness, instead, he goes on by saying that humans can't tell who's in charge except for the badges and uniforms, and he continues by mocking saying that when one wants to lord over the other he says "I'm special so you worship me" or "I know something you don't so you better listen up", he continues by saying that the funniest part is that half of them (humans) believe and half doesn't, so while they're arguing about who's in charge, the Orks keep clobbing them up good.
In summary, an Ork gives a lesson to other Orks about the main weakness of humankind is not their biology or technology, but their massive and fragile ego.

@@durianten2353 This is extremely long, but formatted for easy reading. You just need to read the first 2 paragraphs, I promise. The rest of it is legit me covering my bases from trolls.
I personally didn't interpret it as confusion; I took it as a show of many astartes' lack of respect of mortals. However, maybe I did interpret it wrong.
He did say "...With all due respect," however I stand by this: A true show of respect would be removing your helmet, greeting the general, and then sharing intel/logistical information. Actions speak louder than words, and the Space Marines' actions felt more like a semi-veiled threat to the general. I thought of this as them thinking "We are better than you," basically.
I'm ignorant to the rest of the story, so naturally of course I am open to being wrong.
(You can stop reading the reply here and it'd be perfectly fine. The rest is meant for people who've been 40K fans for over a decade.)
I am a new fan of 40K (4 years or so.) I don't like grimdark as a story trope at all. And I'm going to say it: 40K is NOT grimdark anymore, of course it used to have in prior editions. I firmly believe that after the Great Rift opened, 40K was no longer a grimdark setting.
Personally, I do not find 40K a compelling setting if it's just parody and depression. However with G-Man and The Lion back, there is that small sliver of light. I firmly believe that the reason 40K exploded over the last few years is directly due to removing the pure grimdarkness.
I'm getting this out of the way now: No, I don't love Ultramarines; I find them generic and pretty boring. But that is not a bad thing. I love the Salamanders, specifically because they try to stay connected to humanity. The scene in Pariah Nexus of the Salamander removing his helmet to comfort everyone is truly moving to me.
Here's the reason I added all this explanation: I dislike the Black Templars. A lot. It's because of their selfish zealotry. This isn't saying "BT are evil," I'm not saying they need re-writting. I'm simply trying to give perspective on what makes 40K appealing to me. And having "good guys" to dislike adds a level of nuance, and that naturally makes stories better.
(I genuinely wrote all of that purely because I am in no mood for trolls/old school snobby fans.)
I love it when Space Marines remember that they're meant to lift humanity up; rather than taking it's place. (And I am talking about in warzones too.)
If this was just an example of Space Marines being on the spectrum and a more comedic moment, that's cool, and I will concede to being a bit harsh. A misunderstanding/awkwardness is okay. That being said, I took this as the textbook "Astartes > Humans" arrogance that some chapters have.

No dude, this is a legit thing in the military. A grunt doing their job, and e1-r4/5 have no real business talking to most officers and CO's. It was considered bizarre in my ship that I consistently just walked up and engaged in conversations or asked for signatures on paperwork with officers as high as the department heads (O3/4) and could get away with just causally engaging in conversations with the CMC, XO, and CO. However I was both known for being brutally honest and uncaring about on ship politics and so a good source of info from the lower enlisted, that I really didn't care about rank all that much other than to pay it the basic respect demanded of it (I went through the motions), held several important positions on the ship, and had positions that were directly granted to me by the CO.
But if you were an officer from another branch other than to pay you the basic of respect with a salute and greeting my response if any of them demanded something of me was to direct them to an officer or to tell them I have prior orders I have to follow. They were not my chain of command, it doesn't matter what rank they are, my command holds positional authority over them. And them demanding things of me I cant help them with is irritating to deal with.

      @@Tinnitus1445 I have three counterpoints.
1: That is not how life works. Something Warhammer is actually pretty good with considering them showing Astartes killing people for disrespect sometimes (something no living creature likes).
2: General Windbag was doing this while their CO was right there and they were already acting under his orders to look for their missing scouts. (As a side note: these are Crimson Fists, and normally work alongside the Wall of Guns pretty well.)
3: That's not how the military in 30/40k has ever worked. The different branches have almost never tolerated disrespect, and Astartes in particular have never truly cared about any reprimand save those given to them by their primarch, the Emperor, and the times when what they were reprimanded for doing things that directly contradict what their primarch or the Emperor have taught/told them (and that is generally the order they care about those in).
So, unless Dorn and the Emperor are suddenly against Astartes being rude when disrespected, and Roboute and Lion are all for it AND interfering in how individual chapters that aren't their gene-sons behave on a fundamental level, the odds of them wanting to do, trying to do, or managing to do anything meaningful are between zero and none.
