Those areas that weren't useful to progress the game are there to hear April comment on stuff. Some good lines are hidden behind that eye shaped cursor. :|
Agreed
The game being long is absolutely a plus, because it's fuckin good.
As a mexican guy I can confirm my meetings are nowhere near as complicated as the ones from the mystical guy from this game.
Juan Valencia Are you magical?
I really want to make a joke, but I'm afraid to spoil a 20 year old game when Scarfulhu specifically didn't.
The sequel 'Dreamfall: The longest journey', on the PC and Xbox was also quite interesting.
Can you do a review for its sequels?
Dreamfall: the longest journey and Dreamfall chapters, both available on steam!
please do this Scarfy Scarfulhu
Ragnar Tørnquist. That is a legitimately badass name.
the third installment in this series just came out and is incredible!!!
Tekken 1 FMV and The Trees?
b in my bed plz
Dude, you need more subscribers! You're simply magnificent. Or should I say "fabuloso"?
You're right. He's really good.
It is posible to beat it right above six hours if you want to, but that means knowing what to do already, skiping all FMV, and speed thru the dialogue, which removes the great story and makes it 6 hours of clickings. The story and the different lore in the game makes it so good, and when playing read the books in the library and read the diary often; April updates it with her thoughts and stuff which happend before. It is at its best when you take your time and just become immersed in it.
Getting nostalgia / flashbacks to a different era re-watching this old vids from you. Jordan Underneath reference, man, it was a different time and era in RUclips. I hope you're doing well Scarf
I'm kind of hoping this guy does a video on "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream"
Mostly because it's one of the only point-and-click adventure game I know of and I thought it was always pretty cool...
I might do a video on it someday.
Scarfulhu YAAAAAYYYY
This is my boomstick
Scarfulhu
:D
+Scarfulhu Do iiiit
Jordan is the kind of guy who sees the beauty in the darkness. Or the beauty of darkness, either way.
SCARF. I'M SCURD
Story > Gameplay
When I played this I was little so I didn't pay much attention to it, but seeing it now there were pretty funny and ridiculous enigmas...
I said it was ridiculous for an adventure game. Generally, they last between 6-10 hours at most. This one is crazy long in comparison, and the padding makes it feel even longer.
beat? oh my dear scafulhu...you're not even half-way done
AHHH YES THE MUSIC FOR THE GNOMES FROM KQVI
This was my first ever adventure games, and whilst it has major issues the storyline really had me gripped in a way few other similar ones have managed. Is a shame the sequel(s) went sideways rather than forwards
Hmm... being able to go between worlds by going to sleep in an adventure game. Now, where have I heard that before?
Alas, poor FunCom. I think they went under some time after The Secret World didn't do as well as expected.
I just found your channel and watched some videos, you do a great job . keep it up :D
Great review! Their getting better and better. I might have to check this game out I love long winded adventures :)
But where does the calculator go when it dies?
Oh my god, The Trees by Rush! They're my favourite band! You're the best for using their music. Great video all around!
"cryptic twaddle" potentially the best line in any game review ever
I have played dreamfall and the longest Journey and i love them both
Thanks so much for this. Worked for me.
Loved that rush reference ;)
Who thinks this Crow is based on MST3K Crow?
I first played it back in 1999 in norwegian, and wished it would never end; so I might be a bit nostalgic but, compared to other games back then the graphics are not that bad with its use of 3D Animating.
I feel like I'm addicted to point and click games. I don't usually enjoy them but they're easy to pick up and play. I don't blame you Scarfulhu.
Mmm-hm. The ability to travel between worlds by sleep? Point and click? This sounds awfully bloody familiar if I do say so meself.
I liked the Grim Fandango touch
Well, this actually has to be one of the weirdest things I've seen what with that guy thinking the toy monkey was the police and did the Monkey and then someone being absorbed into a calculator. Looks interesting, but really weird.
+RPGirl He actually saw the shadow on the wall and heard the sound from the toy, and thought that it was the policeman. :) You should try it out. It is on Steam.
beloeng I know. But that doesn't stop it from being weird. I'll think about it, but I make no promises.
+RPGirl I think the part with the calculator is about how science and magic are separated and then when they meet they join.
TheBrazilRules Maybe. I dunno.
I died of laughter omg THE OLD HILLBILLY GUY THINKING THE TOY WAS THE POLICE
I used to jock a classic rock station. I went on a different kind of Longest Journey kick back then....
I bought TLJ for my first non-Walking Dead adventure game (perhaps not the best starting point) at the request of a friend and I stumbled on this video. I was playing for an hour and I quit. I didn't think the backtracking and pacing would've been THAT bad (and seeing the stuff I still had to do just to get to Arcadia in this video, it's nuts. I'm not even at the museum). Glad to hear it picks up later on, but I'm not sure if I could go back if I have to do a million things to meet Cortez.
Eh. I find Crow a little irritating. But not Cedric the owl levels of irritating. I prefer the mocking bird from King's Quest 7 if I am in the mood to be berated.
ha, you said "point and lick" in 00:28, makes me giggley :P
happy to discover this channel. You have such a balance in your reviews, funny and informative at the same time. I always wanted to play this due to neverending fame, nice to catch your review. I can recommend you to play "i have no mouth but i must scream", if you look for a above-average and unique piece of world. As personal request, I will ask for the Lighthouse, a sad myst-clone published by Sierra back in 1996. know it is not that good but it was my first adventure game. Well, you don't forget your first easily...
It's the slow pace of the game (and especially the opening) that's so fantastic about the game.
This review is 6 years old now, so perhaps you're no longer a sugar-addicted ADD Millennial monster?
But if you still are one of those, you need to relax and breathe in...
It has been a long time, and I was 16 (I'm not even a millennial) when I made this video. I haven't since replayed it, but I do think I'd probably less harsh now, haha.
My older videos were often characterised by a need to nitpick to find comedy, rather than appreciate the game for what it tries to set out to achieve.
So who knows? Maybe I'll give it another go sometime.
@@Scarfulhu Oh, you definitely should. There are sequels now, so unless you've played them all, it might be a good idea to brush up on the original first.
I play through this game every couple of years, and it's just as good every time.
Apart from the ending, which isn't that great.
Really love these videos.
I have this game on steam my friend showed me this game on her computer and I felt the need to buy it on steam but the later Dreamfall Chapters were better I think. But The Longest Journey wasn't that bad of a game at least not to me. It wasn't as crappy as the Casper Point and Click game.
Nadine Craft Personally, this game is very dear to my heart. I love the whole franchise, one of my top best. The Longest Journey was indeed a journey for me, a really beautiful one. I understand it's not for everyone, but that doesn't degrade it in any way.
No really I think its a wonderful game I didn't play it when it first came out but it certainly was one of the best old PC games I had played in a while one of the better point and click games for sure its up there with grim fandango in games I think that are pretty good.
I've just started to play chapters and I really start to now its a Backstep even for Dreamfall. Zoé biggest interest to do charity in a political party? WHAT? I really hated the idea which they invented in Dreamfall, so everybody step into Arcadia, just need to be dreaming...
Sure Stark looks dreary but it is so beautiful as a cyberpunk backdrop.
10:38 More like you defeated an Alchemist with... Calculus! (puts on shades)
Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhh!!
Hey dude!... i loved the first chapter so much! because OMG the amtosphere! was amazing..
Is it just me or does Joss Whedon's head seem very peanut shaped?
+Beato the Golden I can see it. Those temples are really indented.
Better than Myst for sure, because there are lots of interesting characters to meet. And, of course, there's Crow. :-)
Love that you put COMI music @8:50 lol :D
This game looks really good. Am I missing out on not playing it? I'm glad it seems to make people happy.
I'll have to check this out. Great video!
The developer he was showing was danish!

So glad you reviewed one of my favorite point-and-click games! Great video as always my friend!
Yeah, and I left it the same way, too.
You don't like Journeys? But the wheel in the sky's still turnin'! XD
Scarfulhu and Jordan for hidden block!
Well, you might also like Coheed&Cambria then.
It's one of "these" bands IMO, and it's out of my genre too, so I guess you could also check it out.
Have fun.
I love these games, dreamfall chapters was amazing
they actuley made a second game of this and that game is awsome, it was on the ps3 and xbox 360 so it came out many years layter
It's okay Jordan, I won't let the Gribbler get you...
I dont know what to say. I just love your videos :3
He must've divided zero by zero...
SPIRITOFRANDOMNESS!! Wait, I'm doing this wrong, aren't I?
7:45 I've heard that song so many times it makes my head hurt.
Freakin' "The Trees" making a appeareance! How Nice :-)
aaaaah old norwegian games are rare.
I heard about the fetching device puzzle. It's good to know the rest of the game is ridiculous too.
You deserve more views man.
You should do a video about Dreamfall.
It's awesome. There isn't a lot of combat at all.
Someday I hope you review the 2nd and at some point soon 3rd game in the series.
Second:
Dream fall: The longest journey.
third:
Not existing yet.
+A. Ahmou store.steampowered.com/app/237850/released almost a year before your comment.
well its time to listen to the trees by rush for awhile
Basically Basic. Genius. Go home everybody.
Actually that was great, I'll give you a pat on the back.
grim fandango will always be the best.
Yes..!
The longestest journey
Can you do a video on what is quickly becoming my favorite game for the PC, Syberia?
hey scarhfulhu, seeing that you love ponit & click games and its almost Halloween may i suggest you to review Drácula resurrection 1 & 2. :P
It seems you've never played these kind of games before. They're all convoluted, illogical wastes of time, but they have their charms, sometimes.
You need to see the game Journey.
Do it
Now
Thanks for doing this review, Scarfulu! :D And an excellent review it was. I was really curious about this game, but wasn't sure if it was worth buying. Now I know! :D Also, RUSH: Very nice. xD
Being that this is last year you might have already played them, but did you happen to play the two sequels after this? the third one was just release this October.
No Journey puns? *clap clap*
This is actually his longest video.
at 7:23
is that music from Phantom Hourglass, or Wind Waker?
no its windwaker
Phantom hourglass for the DS
its the ocean music from windwaker maybe its on both
As a Texan, I can tell you that it really is this hard to meet a Mexican guy,
scarfuhlu sounds like a combination of the word scar
and the engrish for the word "fool" also nice review :)
There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks just shake their heads
Yes, thank you for the one Rush reference on RUclips not done by Caddicarus.
Is England more into Rush? If so, I need a plane ticket.
Seems like a very cool game
I'm acctually waiting for you to make a video with PeanutButterGamer
That would be pretty hype.
I thought he already did one with PBG! Or was that someone else? :(
Daweasaurus The only one I can think of is the video he and Caddy did about Broken Sword 2 on Caddy's channel
Bird named crow inspired from Murakami's Kafka on the shore?
what about dreamfall, the next instalment of the game?
Watching... Waiting... Chewing...
NORWAY FUCK YEAH
Played through this game for the first time a few months back. I agree with several of your points, particularly how it feels very padded and boring at times, but nonetheless I loved it pieces because it was just so well written, and the puzzles hardly featured any moon logic that I've seen in way too many other adventure games that I've played recently. Very nice and funny review either way, keep up the good work ;)
Wait you read the discworld series? (Lets it sink in) I LOVE YOU. THAT IS THE BEST BOOK SERIES I HAVE READ
excelent review mi amigo, useful and detailed.
The gap between you last video was the longest journey
Hey Scarf , what about the sequel , did you like it?
Ah... Grimm Fandango music in the beginning. Great now I've just realized that I got stuck in it some time ago and still need to beat it :L
