This was a great video, but I have to say right off the bat? Using the Gabriel Knight soundtrack in the beginning made me flip my shit, dude.
Very similar game to Return of the Phantom (both Microprose) - they both have that same smooth animation, particularly walk cycles. I am not sure if the characters were rotoscoped or not but I have an inkling they could be..

Dragonsphere was one of my favourite games growing up, I just remember the fairy puzzle being the hardest in the game.

The first vision in the cave is a hint to the twist that you are not the king. Very much excellent game. I don't even remembered the minigame part.

I definitely enjoyed this game, the fact that it was free on GOG was a draw as well. Thanks for the laughs and revisiting the game! For the gem thing just always pick purple... you'll either win quickly or lose quickly either way you should be through it pretty fast.

7:50 I have to disagree on your point there, death (or rather failure) in a game should not be punished but the player should be encouraged to do better. In this case he could have just said "I can't do that" and that's it, but the developers decided to show you directly why you can't do that which gave you a hint towards the solution of the puzzle. Death in video games doesn't mean anything anyway since you can just restart.

oh so you don't like the rewind-on-death mechanism, interesting!
But I thought that in games with sierra-style deaths one would simply play by saving early and saving often, and reload when dead. Isn't this exactly what just happens automatically with a rewind-on-death? Would you just like it to rewind further back, so that you need to repeat a part of the game, so that there's more at stake on death - say like an autosave at certain points? Because, depending on a manual save alone doesn't seem like such a great mechanism either, since it just slows you down constantly, and if you happen to forget, it might prove frustrating to repeat a very large section of the game all over again?
Or do you disagree?
I feel like it can go both ways. Having rewinds means a player has no chance of being forced to start from the beginning, which is good, but I do feel death should be punishing to some degree. Autosaves at key points would definitely be an ideal way to do this I think, with manual saves as an option so you can experiment and see what fun deaths are possible.
Thinking about this video now, I think the issue with Dragonsphere is there's no death message. I reckon I'd like it more if there was a Retry/Restore/Quit type thing. Instead you just instantly get sent back to a safe spot. It makes the deaths feel a bit pointless? Like you never actually died at all.
I feel it could go either way, but I guess the point is I want deaths to feel like deaths, whether they're lenient or not.

Because of the months long gaps I have, quite often RUclips doesn't put my videos into people's sub boxes. It's annoying to say the least. I'm gonna try to upload more at least so the algorithm doesn't punish me.
