- BMW vs Mercedes Reliability - Which is the Best Of The Worst?
Mercedes or BMW, which is more reliable? When we compare the Mercedes Benz lineup reliability vs BMW and their reliability, which one comes out ahead. Which car brand will you want to buy, and which is the best BMW or Mercedes in terms of #luxury #car #reliability?
There are some differences between the different models from BMW and Mercedes in terms of reliability and you're going to find different cars in each lineup as better (or worse).

My family has owned cars from both brands, and by far Mercedes was the most reliable. The only problem we had in a Merc was air conditioning.
Same for my Mercedes.
same as me needed a new unit and wasnt cheap apart from that merc been great you just have to keep an eye out for rust.... bmw on the other hand kept getting a burning oil smell from while driving but they dont seem to rust it seems to be horses for courses
@@rscosworthfan I love both but ye Merc is better built. And tell me about burning oil lol

@@arvin2035 I’ve had both all models, BMW drive better in my opinion
Had my Mercedes for 4 years and never had an issue with it. Just for a BMW now gonna try it
Ive got an e46 m3 since new and e270 cdi mercedes since new almost no problems aside from minor leaks on the bmw, ive also got a newer 2014 amg with alot more issues...all in all id say they are more reliable than other brands and I have had both american and japanese premium vehicles.
Thanks for sharing
Buy them brand new, avoid second hand ones they start getting problems, best used would have to be the Lexus a lot less issues
I have a 2012 bmw 535i I’ve had it a little over a year and no problems yet “knock on wood”
I’d take my chances with a Mercedes benz before bmw any day. But Toyota is always #1 choice as far as value

I went for Mercedes. Everyone owns a Toyota and I wanted to drive something a little more rare and luxurious
@@vassybaby16 Definitely nothing wrong with Mercedes, but I’m 23 and I’d rather take my chances with a Lexus due to the reliability of the car and value. Mercedes wether you take good care of it or not depreciates to much in to little time. Dope car bad numbers😁
i feel like 80 percent of people that say bmw and mercedes suck are the same people have never owned one lol
I’m starting to think you were a car salesman
Never had a problem with anyone of our Mercedes we have owned. Not sure how I even got to this channel....guy definitely is a salesman...speaks to those who don't do their research and will go to his dealership because they think he knows what he is taking to. Most everything he speaks of can be found as a problem in each brand of vehicle. Been living here in Germany since 2017. I seen two very old MB in the junkyard in a sea of BMWs.
@@glouez7326 except for Lexus!
Here in Uganda where we buy 10-20 year old cars used from Japan, Mercedes is more reliable and familiar with our mechanics. I would do a merc any day. Bmw is a well labeled money pit here. Kudos
Would you say that is still true with a manual or an automatic? I hear manuals are more common in Uganda
@@Karll541 ...tic tic tic day put da ebo la in da spa get aye 🤷♂️💞
Kenyan here. I concur. BMWs are weird in that they can either be reliable as hell or an outright money pit. No middle ground. The Merc is more reliable especially if you're buying an older car.
@@Karll541 actually in Uganda just like all other countries we pretty much do automatics all the way. Manual mercs are very very rare
Same here man, BMW will devalue faster as well.
Mechanically, Mercedes is far more reliable. BMW is not even close. Big weaknesses in Mercedes are its internal such buttons, handles, love rusting and air submissions, BMW weaknesses are Oil Leaks, Turbo, Cooling System, Water Pumps, Thermostat, Fuel Pumps, Timing Chain etc. In hot climate countries such Middle East, Mercedes is much better than BMW which has many issue with Cooling System, Water Pumps and Thermostat .

BMW makes me happy, i love the handling and the pure joy of driving.
Also i had luck with all of them, they all have been almost as Toyota reliability wise.
I totally agree
Same here. I have not had any serious issues
Because both of you are taking care of them.
The melting plastic issues for example only really occur when you drive them like a normal person.

Same Steve. Only repairs for normal wear and tear on mine. Other than that I only drive her from home to work etc. been reliable for me for months now.
I’ve had two BMW’s and the most weirdest and smallest things break lol but they are very sturdy and insulated very nicely. But the small fixes is so ridiculous lol 😂 when I had a Honda Civic, I very very Rarely had to fix anything.
Theyre both junk. The old stuff was MUCH better.

True enough
BMW, gorgeous girl, high maintenance but a dynamite in the bed.
Mercedes, drop dead beautiful, high maintenance but only solid in the bed.
Toyota, average looking, does everything with low maintenance, but awful in the bed, pure boredom.
I love how you focus on the trade-offs, that neither is perfect and each has its strengths. My main takeaway from this (correct me if I'm wrong) is that as long as you focus on which particular models are reliable, e.g., BMW with inline 6 (except maybe N54!!) over 4 cylinder and V8, and Mercedes S-class or E-class, not C-class and avoiding AMG 63/43, THEN while the maintenance will be pricey, it won't be a nightmare.
In particular, I liked your comment about how BMW feels more solid. I did test drives of both BMW and Mercedes last year (purchased m340i as a result), and there was something that annoyed me about the Mercedes (C300 and AMG C43) that I couldn't put my finger on. Your use of the word "solid" nails down that difference for me. Mercedes wasn't obviously bad, I just really liked the feel of the BMW more.
It's more like 5 year range than 10, when my BMWs have fallen to pieces. Great video.
Thanks a lot. You are right, sometimes 5 years is a stretch.
what real problems did you have with your bmw?
@@unom5579
The main one was the two week engine rebuild due to the global VANOS bolt head shear recall on all straight 6s. A master tech had to fish the bolt heads out off the oil pan and replace all the bolts in the VANOS assembly on top of the engine. I asked how the bolt heads migrated from top to bottom and what damage was done. No answer. The next big one was the starter electrical fire that destroyed the ECU, the fuse panel, all the door windows, locks, and battery. Then there was the coolant system fail from several leaks dumping all the coolant when the pump came on. That pump has failed only twice in 120K miles, I'm lucky. All the LCD screens failed. The seats are all disintegrating. The stabilty system failed. 3 of 4 M wheels had 4-5 inch hair line cracks through the rims. The AC compressor failed. The convertible top failed and the fabric needs to be replaced. The rear main seal was replaced and is leaking oil again. The manual transmission failed plus two clutches. There are about 10 oil leaks from the pan, the intake seals are bad, and the OFH needs both seals replaced again. The VANOS solenoids were replaced, and there are several vacuum leaks and the tin and plastic FMIC failed. The boost solenoid and sensor failed and the is still a major fluttering boost leak. Thhe rear three ignition coils failed from internal rust. All the cardboard cladding sloughed off the bottom of the car due to oil saturation. All four struts are deflated. The battery header failed twice.
I'm missing about half of it, but thats a start off the top of my head. I lost count at $60,000 in repairs, it needs maybe $30K more. It cost $46K new in 2011.

I lived in europe for three years in the late 90s and high miles, durable through not necessarily super reliable BMWs were normal. Those were definitely not the plastic mass produced BMW cars of today.

Thanks a lot Jeff. It is cold here more often than not.
My CLS has been as reliable as it gets, even though it's on in the mid 50,000's in km's. Only issue I had was the glove box that would randomly open if a passenger slammed the door, or going over a manhole. Dealership replaced it under warranty for $1700. Pretty sure that issue was unique to my vehicle only as I couldn't find any Mercedes with the same issue online.

Even a 3 series BMW for Free after time U would spend Much more as the car ages.. I’ve owned 3 Mercedes & 1 BMW..Mercedes maintenance has been very reasonable and I only use a reputable dealer. My Porsche dealer maintenance yrs ago was less than my BMW.
Thanks mate for the videos I watched on your channel, I owned a 2014 BMW X5 30d turbo 95k with no major issue, I don’t understand why most BMW in the US has many issues as I live in Australia 🇦🇺. BMW always has presence on the road than Mercedes and Audi
Cars you probably should avoid are the AMG versions. They are more expensive to repair and their is more chance they have been thrashed by previous owners. Parts aren’t as prevalent for these either. My E550 is pretty close to the same motor without the boy racer touch. If you are in the market for one of these make sure you get it checked properly before purchasing. Get somebody with an ODB scanner to check car for codes etc and check service history for any recalls before getting emotionally attached to the car.
That’s why you want to buy an AMG with low miles or some “old” owner that doesn’t drive the car hard, I picked up a 2019 E63S which only had 6.2k miles and the owner was some old guy who barely drove it let alone fast.
I am dreaming of buying a used AMG. I am tired of driving Toyota cars that are refusing to die to give way for me to buy another vehicle
@@danielbob4310like the guy above said, a used AMG is pretty good too as long as it's been serviced properly, not been abused and with low mileage. The regular ones with like 100k miles stay away from them
Why is my 2014 bmw 328 series x drive behaving with the reliability of a Toyota corolla. I now have 243,000 km and I replaced a navigation screen and oil sensor under warranty and some pulley belts with the extended warranty. I replaced at my cost the waste gate actuator at 218,000 km and I just replaced my drivers side sun visor at my cost. I did replace the oil way before they wanted me to and I don’t accelerate like a race car driver which may have helped not overheating the turbo? not sure if this is correct but I I have come to love my 3 series - hopefully I continue to experience this type of reliability since I paid off this car 2 years ago and I don’t mind saving that 800 do,Lars per month . I am almost on the verge of getting the 440 coupe in San Remo green or Artic race blue but I I just keep saving the extra 800 or 900 bucks every month I don’t have a problem with my old sweet 3 series . It’s crazy how we we get emotionally attached to our cars.
That’s totally true. The things we do for the cars we love is pretty funny at times. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
Well, well...
O.K., I'm living in Germany, and I used to have and still have a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz today, a 1997 SLK 230 (R170, first built quarter, still NO signs of corrosion although for the first 14 years no home garage), now 152 tkm and a 2015 X3 3,0d (Made in Alabama!), now 135 tkm on the clock. Prior to the X3, I had a 2012 MB C250 CDi 4matic, that was later used by my dad and sold just some month ago at 155 tkm (all cars first owner).
It looks like the North American customers buy way more bigger engines, but I'm absolutely sure that we are way much tougher on our cars than anybody else: Immagine, it's late evening, e.g. 8 p.m., the meeting is over and you want to go home with 400 km Autobahn ahead. Traffic has already calmed down, most of the trucks are already at the parking places along the street. What are you doing? Certainly, accelerate the car to a speed between 160 ... 200 km/h, lock the cuise and go. 400 km at that speed range. That's what we have these cars for (until a speed limit will be imposed by the next government). Long-haul business drivers prefer the 3 l staight 6 cyl turbo-Diesels for their torque characteristics (like a V8 gasoline engines) and their low gas consumption. To compare these cars:
The C250 was a super-sturdy car and so is the X3. The C250 had more wear on the brakes and slightly higher maintenance costs, the X3 is absolutely sensational: last service at 120 tkm for € 520,-. At 20 tkm a control unit of the park distance control had to be exchanged (warranty) and at 105 tkm the pump of the lumbar support in the drivers seat had to be exchanged (€ 315,-), but NOTHING else, just regular maintenance and brake wear. The C250 had some problem with the digital radio and the safety belt was squeaking (warranty), at 142 tkm the control unit in the adaptive cruise control had to be changed (€ 764,-), but that's it. In other words, if you have such a car in Germany, the running costs are way much less than for a Volkswagen (!!!). Regarding the interior, unfortunately the smaller BMWs (up to 5 series) are looking & feeling cheap, while C-class MBs are generally made more or less looking & feeling like S-class (not the previous one, but the new one and the old ones).
The problem with BMW is, you can use these cars for some time, e.g. 10 or 12 years, but then there is a point where you don't get spares anymore (approx. around 14 ... 16 years). Then, it's over. For my 24 year old SLK, I still get all mechanical, electrical and body parts from the dealer work shop over night, just for some very specific (uncritical) options I have to search the web. Moreover, at MB you can apply for a discount card and get 20% of spares if the car is elder than 7 years.
One day, I had a Japanese customer over and he complaint that he can't get exterior trim parts for his 1981 MB SL (R107). I took him to the local dealer where everything was on stock and really reasonable priced.
In other words, if you want to keep a car for more than 20 years, MB is the better bet. If you just want to use it for some 3 ... 6 years, it's a question of taste, nothing else.
My Mercedes CLA250 has 70,000 miles. The plastic air intake hose had a hole due to being exposed to the heat from the turbo. It was an easy fix for $40. The car has been trouble free
Fun cars too
love my CLA too. Mine just hit 30k & definitely a keep. He's very healthy &handsome!!!!
CLA is def great and reliable mines is about to hit 100k and I never had any problems with it, no rusts or with mechanics. Its a 2016 and still look like a brand new mercedes
I always felt like a c class is more reliable than the s class. Same with the 3 compared to the 7. Maybe it’s me. Now the question is 17 cls550 or 17 650i grand coupe.
The CLS is more dependable because the BMW n63 engine in that car
The n55 is way more reliable than the n63 but if u want a v8 get the cls550
Because it's a simpler car, less things potentially going wrong and less electronic gremlins running amok
@@ECPP u don’t know about bmw engines a 2017 bmw 650 has a great engine and it would be even better if you can get a 2018 650 as they updated the n63 and took many parts from the s63 m5/m6

I dont know about the Benz 4WD but the BMW Xdrive will need a transfer case revision at some point (not so reliable)
Don't know... I had a MB 4WD for 155 tkm and now I have a BMW X3 for 135 tkm, no sign of weakness with any of the transfer cases. Just btw, the BMW transfer case is made by ZF, MB does their own one.
BMW is a mans car. Benz is for women IMO.
Looking at BMW 2008 M3 with a 183000 miles do you think that's a good idea

Too much blah blah blah... Get to the point, please.
Oof
I have owned 4 bmws over the past 20+ years. 1999, 2003, 2007, & 2010. The 99 3 series caught fire randomly and owed me nothing when it died after owning for about 7 years. The 07 528 had severe vanos problems, oil leaks, and a nasty temper but i knew it's mood and learned how to get around cold stalls, etc. I hit a deer and no one on earth would tell me it was worth fixing. I had to sell it for parts. The 03 was given to me and I drove it for about a year. Every light on the dash was on. Misfires like crazy and still ran. In the end, sold for parts. Mechanics wouldn't work on it and just kept saying to get rid of it. Leaked oil like the 07. Bought the 2010 528xi exactly 5 years ago and it drove like a dream. BUT! Blew hot air from the AC, constantly adding coolant, major sludge in the oil in the last couple years and mechanics just accused me over and over of not driving it far enough or not changing the oil enough-- and I always changed it below the 5000 mile mark. Infamous lifter tick. Attitude after attitude from mechanics who just made shit up every time i brought it in. Got an oil change last week after bringing it in for ticking... the mechanic said all bmws are pieces of shit and refused to work on suspension. It needed tie rod and, bushings, struts, and brakes. Refused to do anything but the oil change saying it would die from the ticking. Within 2 days of doing the oil change, the low pressure warning of death came on. I guarantee it was due to that oil change because it never came on before. I was in route to work and the whole thing died because I couldn't pull over. Bright it to new mechanic and all he did was say the oil was sludge and not to bother fix it. "The engine is toast." Funny-- right before it "died" it still ran like a dream, smooth as silk. But the mechanics ALL REFUSED to help and spend the time finding the problem. I heard back from bmw corporate who told me there's an open recall for pcv valve heater. Symptoms of that part are exactly what was happening to it: oil sludge, misfiring, etc.
My search is on for a Mercedes. The question will be, am I getting into more hot water?
BMWs are the tightest, heaviest, most sturdy feeling cars you'll ever drive. Smooth as silk, fast and quick to respond. I idolize them. But alas, I may be forced to stop at 4. My heart is broken. I have one more payment to make on what I have now, and nothing to show for it.
both are not as good as they used to be- Mercedes- are now designed to last about 150k miles then repairs start adding up like quick. The BMW's in the 70's and 80's were built like tanks those were better than Mercedes but now because of engines leaning on computers they both are having issues BMW is the weaker now of the two hands down
Let’s be honest German cars went to shit when they started adding more plastic and turbos 😭

All are pretty pricy town but if you really want a 7 series can I suggest the 740 in the last couple years as they are equipped with the B58 turbo 6 and its more reliable, still makes great power and will be sure to have lower running costs in the long run.
To be honest bmw in recent years have really stepped up reliability . They learned from their mistakes especially with the e60, e90 generation which had many issues (n54,v10). If you look at the b58 it’s among one of the best engines in the world for its class and is super reliable

BMW is the worst, Mercedes makes nice engines but at the end of the day both brands are money pit.
Probably Merc is better! With germans, nothing is perfect! Lol!
I mostly own high mileage and older BMW and Mercedes (also Volvo, Lincolns and Lexus/Toyota) I switched from BMW to Mercedes because there are less issues with Mercedes compared to BMW. Note that BMW added more electronic parts in their engine and those mostly fail once you are over 80k miles (or earlier) BMW has the DISA valve, Valvetronic added in to the engine which requires maintenance, plastics on the engine and very weird battery management system (why register or program a battery during replacement!) the 4 cylinder turbos are also junk and BMW is a newcomer to turbos (they redesigned it several times)... less complex, the lesser the issues.
Which older model bmws did you own that you're comparing to Mercedes?
@@alouise3557 the e46, e39 and e53. The e90 and e60s and above models have more electronic crap that fail and you'll be spending tons of time trying to diagnose which of those cause issues.

Most are built in the US. Not too many in Mexico. Although there are more now. Q5 are built in Mexico, but they are actually quite good. I’ve own VW made in Mexico, but it was a good car. Search Deutsch Auto Part Channel in Yourtube. The notion about Mexican built is lower quality is a myth. VW and Audi import parts from Mexico to Germany. I had a 2008 VW Rabbit, built in Wolfsburg with Mexican built 2.5L inline 5 engine and 6 speed Japanese Aisin DSG auto tranny. That was a first VW that was recommended by Consumer Report for reliability. With that being said. I will stay away from the MB GLA and GLB. I think they are built in Mexico. Not that I mind Mexican built, but the plant is actually join venture with Nissan/ Infiniti. The Old MB GLA was actually restyled Infiniti QX30. They even had the same engine. Infiniti and Nissan root origin worries me.
@@majorcalvary6515 Nissan and Infiniti are both more reliable than MB. Also it's Infiniti who borrowed the platform for Q30 from Gla, not the other way around. I personally though still prefer my German cars made in Germany. I had a MB Clk 550 before and now BMW GT550. Both made is Germany.

I also agree. There really is not much better
@@ECPP yea they just need to be Maintained that's it . Expensive of course but the best Cars I've ever owned . I will never buy Japanese or American car . BMW the Best Espically the F30 2014 Amazing it still runs like a charm since 5 years from the day I bought it. Thank M8 Best car youtuber ❤
@@سراجالدين-م8ج f30 lci is even better because they fixed the timing issue
@@irGuilty Yea its Amazing bro issues I've faced Steering system Oil leakage and coolant leakage that's it only once happened to me. I don't know what's wrong with the US ones I Hear a lot of complains. Mine is 100% German made

Thanks for that comment. U.S version are really not the same as this in Germany ?
Had a 15 year old Mercedes, in Canada, no rust on the car whatsoever. I think, compared to the average car, neither one of these rusts.
S class far more reliable than any 7 series.
No
I’ve never owned a German vehicle but if I had too it would be a Porsche & then a Mercedes.
German cars are easy to get Hard to keep
IMS bearings come to mind
Toyotas can be rust buckets. Especially the trucks/suvs. Check carefully.
I had Merced e class diesel. It has reached 50000 miles. I stared to have add blue and engine warning issue.I was told it is very expensive repair.
Some repairs are big bucks indeed
I have a 2011 BMW 328i Xdrive Sedan. First off, it's not a 'lower quality' BMW that this guy seems to think the 3 series are. It was voted in the top 3 luxury Sedans of 2011. Second off, It has 120.000 miles on it, and I have not had to do any significant repairs at all. Everything is still working in tip-top shape. I am not sure what this guy is smoking, but it's been the best car I have ever owned.
Both my 2018 BMW M3 and 2015 328i GT hatchback xdrive. They can't compare to the MB c300 and c350 those MB are negative POS whips.. BMW 4 life just lease.. these cars are meant to be leased not bought unless you are a collector and got a jay Leno garage... im keeping my M3 tho.. LOL 😆
Cheers
If you not sure, choose Honda or Toyota. You can’t go wrong with either of this 2
Or Lexus :)
I find that every Benz I have purchased in the last 10 years have been more reliable than the BMW counterparts. Not sure why. The head bolt problem was well documented. The only thing that would go wrong is the seals on the air shocks. My Cls lost 3 shocks over a period of about a year, worn out at the 10 year mark. Nothing has worn out on my E class yet (touch wood) however it’s done 60k kms so far.
Great video. Hows the reliability of the 2nd gen Benz B250?
Thanks so much.
2015 BMW X5 is shit. Do not buy one.
Both are rubbish and my argument can be as true as both are great. If you know nothing about cars buy the one you like and find out a nightmare later on. If you know cars and better you are enthusiast in one or onother you dont buy for pure looks but also choose from mechanical point of view and you know what you are getting. As example same model same year e60 m5 and e60 535i. W204 c220 om646 and om651 both diesels both 2.2 and what a difference in troubles.
What's your opinion of the 2013 328i convertible? I just bought one with 75k miles. Seems fine no issues yet. Haven't had it long tho! lol
engine n20 will blow the timing chain wait for it.
5 years comes the costly oil leaks with BMW.
5 years often fail smog test in Cal
Just a few of annoying $1k expenses
Enjoying this chanel
True and sad, but true nonetheless
Buying into one of this brands is a personal choice nobody is to tell a grown person what to do with their money or criticize them for their choice, I always wanted a Benz I finally bought one love this machine is not my everyday vehicle but I take care of it very very well I never liked BMW’s and their terrible reputation and higher maintenance cost is something against them but I’m still have faith in the German cars just take care of it many people buy them for the wrong reasons many buy them to impress even if they are broke!!! Now why the Japanese “luxury” brands have to do here? Why y’all scream so much for attention? Y’all want your brand of preference to be mentioned in the German cars videos!! Reliability is not what make us get German cars is the superior driving and performance and innovation the this cars come with!! Wait when our host is talking about Asian brands to write something just sit back and watch how the big 3 dominate the luxury market 80% of it!!!
In no way shape or form is a Bmw more reliable than a Benz. I learned first hand about the plastic lego designed engine. No way B.M Trouble you is what those cars mean
I have owned vehicles from the United States, Germany, Sweden, France, Korea and Japan.
All have been driven in excess of 175k miles.
In my experience Japanese cars are not as trouble free as urban legend suggests.
German and American vehicles are more reliable and durable then Scotty Kilmer and his minions claim.
Every vehicle has issues.
With regular maintenance every modern vehicle is reliable.
Thank you. I’ve been trying to tell folks but they just won’t listen.
Agreed I've owned a few Japanese and European makes and I can definitely say that Japanese reliability is overrated. It's usually people that don't know how to maintain their cars or people that can't afford euro cars that push that false narrative
I have to laugh at the comment "BMWs feel a lot more solid when you close the doors. They're more sturdy. Where Mercedes tend to be a little bit fragile feeling at times." In my experience, the GLE W166 is no less solid feeling than the X5 of the same vintage. My 2016 GLA250 was no less solid feeling than the BMW X2. While the GLA / X2 were no where near the same quality as the GLE or X5, when comparing similarly priced models both Merc and BMW have very similar levels of quality.
That’s my personal experience
Hello mark , i always look forward to your video's. Your advice is very good and very important for people buying a car.
I used to have e53 X5 4.4, 90.000 km, everything broken. Head gasket, bulbs, radiator, radiator expansion crack, AC evaporator, electric seat, rear air suspension leak, shock absorber leak, control arm bushings, transmission slipping, oil leak, hoses, etc. Car has done maintenance tightly but still, something always broken suddenly.
The car was comfy but mileage was really bad and what made me tired of it, almost every couple weeks there was something that need to be repaired.
Now I am driving CLS 63 and SLK 250, both never problem, especially the SLK, 140.000 km and still NO PROBLEM except just the front left headlight bulb replacement last week.
I had new 09 s550 vs wife 09 c300 her 300 was a tank with zero issues, mine 7m out of the first year was in the shop so i drove loaner c350 and glk 350 so i sold s550
So I have an 2018 Audi SQ5 with 17500 miles. It's been a great fun car to drive and no issues. But I usually get a new one at 4 years when the warranty expires. I'm looking at the BMW X3 M4.0i, Mercedes AMG GLC 43, or Porsche Macan. Most of my driving is highway from Boston to Cape Cod and back. Any opinion of best, most fun, fast, and reliable?
porsche Macan S or GTS, avoid the base it has the troubled 2.0T engine that has the known issues its a carry over from Audi. I have the 19 A6 with the 3.0T great engine, I believe it is the same engine in your SQ5 and the Macan S if your looking for similar power. The GLC maybe a close 2nd in my opinion.
If you have the money to buy a new Audi or Porche every 4 years, I would rather lease than buy at that point.
Depreciation is the enemy.
+ I've never saw a Mercedes-Benz engine with a 70% catastrophic failure at 30,000 miles, unlike the BMW "S85" V10 in the M5. Those engines were untested before being sold & the customers got stuck holding the bill. BMW got sued over that if I'm not mistaken.
Both are just shit cars either way
The old BMW’s and Mercs are better than the new ones. I’ve owned both makes and you can’t go wrong with either, but I’ve had to do more repairs to my BMW’s vs my Mercs.
Great summation of each brand. You're experience benefits owners & enthusiasts tremendously! Owned an '01 CLK430 other than rust issues, never gave me any trouble. My BMW's have had many issues but rust was never one of 'em.👍
BMW = aluminium body Mercedes = old panzer
What are you talking about man ? my very reliable BMW is at the garage today because my transfer case is leaking , lol .
I hear ya, been there too
@@ECPP i think you are a fan 8 mercedes because in europe we all know BMW its better than Benz and have more solds than Benz for years
@@bronjames4851 mercedes sells more cars than bmw worldwide. I think you are a bmw fanboy
@@deboss8998 No bro you are wrog just see results in google and you tube..Mercedes has to much deffects and its not good car to drive..i have respect for old mercedes 1990
a transfer case gasket is not a big problem, be serious. Other brands have their engines and transmissions fail on the highaway...
BMW THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE
nice
SOLUTION = Lease a German car or buy an Asian auto and go enjoy a vacation in Bali !

Are BMW M cars a good choice for long term ownership ?
For sure, some can be
The older ones, yes! (E39 and older). Plus they are hand built!
@@SURENITY robots make better cars than humans
@@stevenfoleyuk9404 I must disagree.
Toyota for example makes the Yaris GR by hand because of the small engine and high performance.
It is all about the time, afford, standarts etc.
