The newest Hyundai’s, are much better vehicles now. The S. Korean’s are moving closer to the Japanese builders everyday. Santa Fe, V6 and V8 models, ( without turbos) Palisades, and some Genesis models, are thousands less than other builders in each class. Fit, finish, and styling show that they are listening to consumers. Kia, sorry to say, not there yet.

@@Z06ified Yes, actually I did know. Two points of interest. Some auto rating agencies have the Hyundai brand ahead of Kia, for satisfaction and reliability. However, recent issues of engine recall of many Hyundai vehicles have surfaced, which now calls that in to question. Time, as always, will tell.

spot on with the X5 . in 2018 i bought a 2013 X5 with 94k miles. My first ever SUV and it was in amazing physical condition.. Didn’t do my research (one of the first times ever) on this model. In a LONG 8 months i sunk nearly $2500 into it for the following: Leaking rear differential, frozen door lock actuator, replaced front control arms and suspension links. All work done at a BMW dealership with an extended warranty which i bought separately. I couldn’t sell this piece of crap privately and lost my shirt on trade in for a 2013 Lexus ES350. For the majority of German cars over 50k miles and about 5 years old will bankrupt you.
I recently sold my 2013 ES350 and bought a 2002 Lexus ES300, one owner, 160k miles, dealer serviced from day one through 110k miles. Timing belt, water pump and valve cover gasket replaced all done at 88k miles. Amazing build quality. Everything works like its 5 years old ! LExus forever

If you can afford one, you can afford the extra warranty. No one drives these cars out of warranty. That's why there are so many 4 year old ones around. Oh by the way, we skipped the air ride suspension and got regular old springs and shocks.

      Gary Crispin:
The fact that you bought an extended warranty makes it sound like you did not expect your GLE it last for 100,000 miles without needing significant repairs. I could be wrong, but the point of this video was to point out those " rare " vehicles that won't make it to 100,000 without needing significant repairs. I recently traded in a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria with nearly 200,000 miles and it's original engine and transmission never needed repairs. My biggest unexpected repair was replacement of the heater core 2 years ago (10 years/150,000 miles). Any other repairs were incidental/normal wear items like brakes and shocks.
Oh, I forgot, towards the end it started running through headlight bulbs nearly every 6 months, but that was my fault, as I had a tendency to " lean on " my high beams instead of my horn when signalling other drivers that they were not alone on the road.
My current car is the only one where I purchased an extended warranty. I bought the car knowing this particular model has a history of steering problems. However, the price versus the odometer mileage made this car a very good deal compared to competing models from different manufacturers.

I had a 2006 RR Sport Supercharged, sold it at 85k in 2012. the things that failed me on that vehicle was the suspension air compressor, intermittent alarm going off probably due to a door switch, and the dynamic response system that would occasionally start doing the dippsy doodle when it hit a bump at a turn, happened in the same places multiple times in NC and in Maryland LOL, since it was under warranty, the dealer replaced some expensive part but it never corrected the dippsy doodling. However, this vehicle was fully loaded and the arm rest beer cooler was reliable and used often on road trips. I traded that for a 2012 Audi Q5 2.0 TSFI. I recently had an oil consumption issue (85K), I replaced the crankcase vent valve assembly and drove it 2000 miles, I got a 1000 miles per quart of oil but in town it eats it faster, 500 miles.

You can feel the weight in the lower gears and during braking at speed. That weight is bad for the tyres and it's very unkind to the brakes too, both of which I have changed rather more frequently. So unfortunate because the power train is the very unbreakable Mercedes 2.2 D, which I have never had an issue with in my 3 years of ownership.

I've got 2 Caravans. A 2003 Grand Caravan (we've had since 2005)with the 3.3, no major issues and have 350,000 kms on it, I think it will rust out before it dies. The other is a 2011 Grand Caravan bought used in 2013. The only thing major was a head recall that was done for free. Other than that it's only be normal maintenance items like brakes, struts and like the other one no transmission issues. It has 270,000kms. Big thing with the transmissions is do your oil and filter changes, and on the older ones, if your spark plugs go bad, it can cause weird and hard shifts on the transmission. Check your plugs and wires if you are having strange shifting going on. A friend has a 2005 Grand Caravan and he had over 600,000 kms and no major issues with it.

I personally think that, he's a on point and knows the subject matter very well.
That's why it is advisable to contact a trained mechanic/ technician, prior to making a decision of buying your next vehicle.

Most anything with a budget-design push-belt CVT Transmission. Total roll of the dice when it will disintegrate & cost you $7-8K.

Missing the mark completely on the minivan. Which other vehicle can you buy NEW for $23k, with a 293hp six cylinder and a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty? None that I know of.

I have ‘14 X5 550. I can confirm oil consumption. Everything else is fine so far, and I have a warranty and will get rid of it before it’s up so I don’t care

Rod bearing issues don't cause fires. What happens is 3 things. 1) The rod bearing wears to such a degree, the play is enough for the crank to knock the rod cap off, then punching the rod through the side of the block. 2) The oil pressure fails, starving the piston of oil, thus resulting in rod failure, with the rod breaking, & being punched through the block, or sump, or both. 3) The rod bearing becomes very hot, & the piston/rod assembly seizes, thus stopping the engine. These issues are easily avoided by making sure the oil filter is changed at every service, & correct oil used.

Bullshit on the ML Benz, got 2, I have put 250,000 k on 1 with nothing but a replacement AC compressor and 2 sets brake pads. The trans is bulletproof if u change fluid and filter every 80k.

Love your videos. I was going to get a Q50. Glad that I changed my mind after watching this. As long as I don't see an MB C250 on this list I'm good.

I will never again go near a Mercedes. Electrical issues are far too common. The system design is ill conceived. When a lane-change assist module failed, the wipers stopped working, and later the car failed to run properly... because... the databus that runs critical elements like engine and wipers is also used for lane-change assist radar modules. Who on earth would design a system with critical-to-key-function systems at the mercy of failures in superficial options and fail to protect that now massive critical system, that runs all around the car, from the elements? N.A. manufacturers keep engine and critical systems independent of optional equipment. At least you can drive your N. A. car home if your blind-spot-assist fails.
