@Fire Heart Thats when having a mass market brand under the same corporate umbrella comes in handy. They have Hyundai and Kia bringing in revenues to fund the Genesis. Same story with Toyota/Lexus and Ford/Lincoln.
@@sweatyalpaca You're right about that, but with the Hyundai N vehicles it's pretty plain to see that Hyundai has changed their philosophy a bit. They're no longer interested in only being the reliable budget option, they're trying to outgo and surpass competition for the same price. It's a shame they don't have the fun version of the G70 in the UK, the car is much better suited to a 3.3l twin turbo V6
@@superdoesings2416 yall dont have the V6 twin Turbo model? Bruh, that friggn sucks. It looks like yall do get the full digital dash tho, but I'll take the V6 turbo over having a digital dash hands down. This car with the V6 is absolutely nuts. Horrific gas mileage, but a blast to drive.
The reason why the DS is 'overdone' is because Citroen has always been a marque of doing this unusual and or very high tech. DS being their luxury segment and going all out makes sense.
Very interesting this test. What it does show is that the extra you pay for the German cars are clearly worth it. They just know how to do it well. The suspension, drive train and efficiency isn't matched by other brands like Genesis and DS. It's clear that all the German complexity is there for a reason. To make it better.
Be serious the Lexus ES or even a Toyota Camry are gonna wipe the floor with these things when it comes to efficiency, drive train and suspension. Toyota camry if you dont care about badges, Lexus if you do but want a decent car, and then just go german if "all" you care about is badge. These german cars are absolute mine fields, the major problem with them is, you could be lucky and never have anything go wrong, but they are not that reliable, so if something goes wrong will it be cheap? no! Take the c class plugin hybrid, that used to have the hatch for the electric charge point on the bumper. If you drove off with it plugged in by accident and knocked the hatch off, its a 1900 sterling parts bill alone. You might have to replace the whole blooming bumper.
I drove a Genesis G70 for a week last year. The collision detection system is far too sensitive and on a few occasions it slammed on the brakes, pulled in the seatbelts and nearly frightened the life out of me and my front seat passenger. I liked the car though.
Powerful headlights are very important here in the north (Finland) where there might be moose and deer crossing the roads regardless of the season. It would be helpful for viewers to include some kind of test regarding stock lights not only on Carwow but on reviews by other car channels as well (as smaller sized "designer headlights" are seemingly becoming more common) Fennoscandic car manufacturers Saab and Volvo used to take that safety aspect seriously some time ago. A nice group test, well done
Yeah, I know what you mean. There are couple of German RUclipsrs who dedicated to this and show which lights on the Market are the best. From what I saw and reported from this RUclipsrs the Germans dominate the LED market by far. Audi with the Matrix LED, BMW Laser Lights, Mercedes Digital Lights also Volvo with the Thor LEDs and Skoda has also now Matrix LED.
Agree. MB is the best plug in hybrid with the immense electric range. Great design too. The bimmer would be my favorite too,as a 320d without xDrive

@@mediocreman2 Well it’s a family saloon so naturally it will be developed for more comfort sooner or later 😢At least we still got M340 which are still good to drive
That chrome strip on the bonnet of the DS9 is a nod to the strip on the bonnet of the real Citroen DS, you know, the original work of genius. Come to that a comparison between the DS9 and a DS21 Pallas would make interesting viewing.
The G70 won for me. In America we get a 365HP version that really ups the sportiness. Pair that with the 3 year concierge warranty (they’ll pick it up from my house and leave a loaner) and the 5 year powertrain warranty and you have an awesome package!
Wow, Europeans got the shaft on the G70 engine options. The only way to truly appreciate this car is with AWD and the 3.3L twin turbo engine. And Mat, you nailed it on the back seats, they're pretty much small children only on the G70.
@@ilyarepin7750 While it is heavier, it's also quicker to 60mph, especially once tuned. Also, AWD is the only way you're getting around in the snow where I live.

Not sporty? xd Im having hella fun in an A4 man, an S4 is def massive step up. Agree with everything else, they are very elegant and interior is just right!
It’s unfortunate you don’t have access to the best spec of the Genesis in the UK. I’m in Canada and bought a 2022 3.3 Litre, twin turbo G70 Sport AWD last year. It’s a great driving car, which is as much fun to drive as my Mercedes 1993 600SL. Granted, my Mercedes is an older car but it’s in mint condition and a great car to drive. The point is, the Genesis with the right spec is a really great car. Also, the collision control features you complained about being too sensitive are all adjustable. I drive pretty aggressively and never have a problem with the nannies in the car.
For me when in doubt… Audi. Yeah it may be slightly outdated but you get tremendous practicality. Also, I had no idea the S4 came in a diesel on certain countries
@@mitchellsteindler Yup. Same with quite a few other brands. Our (US) least powerful setups start at 240-250 HP, pretty much always from some turbo 2.0L I4. Interestingly, I drove the facelifted 320d last night for the first time and this video comes up. It’s definitely a great car and the one I’d go for. However, between the a4 and the c class, I firmly believe the A4 is a better car overall than the new c class.
In what way? I have a pre facelift A4 B9 and would consider this generation of C Class perhaps in a few years, or maybe a GLC. Why do you feel as if the C Class is worse?
@@akj2387 Mercedes quality isn’t anywhere near Audi. Audi had the best quality in the industry when the B9 was developed, BMW since the G11 has redesigned models with what I would now say is industry leading at the same time as VAG initiated cost cutting. Therefore, I would choose the A4 or 3 series if you prefer the car. Mercedes isn’t selling a top quality product and hasn’t done for years now, every car is littered with cheap plastics and inferior materials all around.
@@akj2387 material and build quality, you can feel that the c class is cheaper and probably cutting costs, when you grab the door handle, when you close the door, padding on the dash and elsewhere. Infotainment is fine but I still prefer the audi’s as well as the digital cockpit. Sound system (base) is by far the worst I’ve heard in any new car, a base sound system in a golf is way better. Fuel economy for a rwd car is the same as audi quattros with the equivalent 2 litre diesel and there’s less room in the back. I would rather have the previous gen c class than this one
Oh damn, I chose my A4 over a C Class since I test drove a C Class (not this one, the gen before that) and preferred the A4 over it, the C Class just didn't feel as posh or well built. Imo the A4 had the beter infotainment system, better build quality and more space. The C Class just didn't feel special, the interior was all shiny but didn't have the quality feel of the Audi. Thought it would've been better for the latest generation. I love the dash/ambient lighting though in the new C Class. I was buying a slightly used car so it wasn't a factory order meaning I couldn't configure it myself. The C Class I saw didn't even have rear folding seats, I mean I can't say much since my A4 doesn't have rear seatback pockets, or cupholders, but still.
@@akj2387 that is part of the storage pack on most Audi’s. It’s £100 I believe. The only thing Mercedes are good for is ambient lighting, Audi don’t give it on any model and it’s an expensive option. At least the A4/A5 have some cool lighting with the cupholders as standard though as the A6 is dire in comparison. The 5 series has coloured lighting as standard though.
Would be great to see a comparison between the c class, a4, 3 series and their bigger brothers e class, a6 and 5 series. Just to see if it would be worth getting the bigger Cars or just get the mid sized one but with a better Engine or more equipment
I was in shock when I saw the original price of the Audi being cheaper at first but accepted it.. then the price as tested was revealed and I felt normal again😂
I’m surprised on your opinion on the G70. Here in the US it’s very good and fun to drive. I think we get a different suspension tune….we also get a 3.3 L twin turbo V6 with 365 hp and AWD

Yeh in the EU we have power regulations unfortunately and some cars don't have the same trims. For example we cannot get the Hyundai Elantra N here in the EU. Instead we got an i30N which is no where near as fun
@@mediocreman2 Genesis usually claws back a lot of ground on price, but their price advantage doesn't apply in Europe since it's the German's home ground, which I'm sure is related to taxes on imports vs domestic (EU). Over here in Australia the G70 is about 20% less than the equivalent German, which is a lot of $$.
New C-klasse is a great daily driver. Don't expect "S" like comfort and suspension, but there is more than enough power to have fun, drift a bit (with 2.0L i4 non plug in hybrid), and still get 500+ miles on a tank of gas (though you either need to drive on the highway a lot or use Eco mode). This car is a great blend of luxury and cost effectiveness. The interior feels like a $70k+ car! This is what a C300 should be. (The new C63 is another story...)
New c63 weights so much has a inline 4 hybrid system thats gonna cost a arm and a left to replace and sounds like ass. M3 beats the new c63 in every category maybe not the interior but the m3 isn't far behind at all
@@hgill9866 i wudnt say it beats it, altho there isnt an official drag race between new c63 and m3 a carwow 0-60 has the new c63 at 3.02 seconds and 1/4 mile is 11.2 which is the same as the m3.
@@pastpixels-q2w exactly. I don’t want to start a discussion about that but isn’t it disappointing that a 680 hp car isn’t able to pull past an 510 hp car ? All I'd ask for in my '20 m340i to make it the absolute perfect daily for me: -make it a wagon (US here, stuck with the sedan) -replace the electronic e-brake button with a proper handle -add the M xdrive functionality from its bigger brother (AWD to RWD with a press of a button) And for a little extra touch that I could do myself- high flow cat downpipes, real exhaust tips and perhaps a mild tune/piggyback. As well as an extra set of wheels with proper winter tires on them for easy swaps once the cold and snowy times come. Literally nothing else comes to my mind on how to improve it for daily needs. Well, perhaps some proper steering feel/feedback, but that'd be way too much to ask for from BMW these days lol.
All 3 are top notch, owned all 3 and gotta say to me it boils down to what you need it for, and how well assembled version you find... cause the roads I drive on are Horrible my back thanked me for sticking with c class lol ( non hybird)
Taking depreciation I think the Citroen will lose a hell of a lot in its first 3 years. Based on the 5 cars with the engines as tested here it’d have to be the S4 without question. However I’d put my own money into an M340i.
Here in the US the Genesis cars held their values terribly prior to the pandemic. They would lose like almost 50% of their value in around 2 and half years
have you checked priced of a bmw? Acura is one of the best when it comes to not depreciating but the other brands are all worth next to nothing after 5 yrs. Its because once you have to pay maintenance yourself, the car isn't worth it.

The UK is definitely getting screwed over with the Genesis models in terms of not being able to buy them with the 3.3L and 3.5L V6s. The V6s make the Genesis brand a solid alternative to the big three in Germany. Not to mention, Ex-BMW engineer Fayez Abdul Rahman is now heavily involved with Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. So as a result, this greatly benefits the three Korean brands, which has been made quite clear in North America.
Who needs such engines? Only Americans, the majority of vehicles, even in the class above (A6, 5 series etc) are 2 litre engines or smaller. Only flagship German vehicles get 3 litre engines. The Asian car manufacturers make inferior vehicles but for whatever reason they are popular in the US for cost or reliability. Here any Toyota costs more than VW for example and the car can’t compete on merit so you can see why the Germans along with JLR and Volvo have a monopoly
@@fenrirslip take a look at the price of every Toyota model and compare to VW. Last time I checked, they did. If we are talking company cars, also much cheaper to go with VAG. If we are talking residuals, it is also much better. Unless you want reliability, it’s not logical to choose anything but what the Germans are offering.
Audi, Merc and BMW cars are not reliable in the long run lease only
And still Toyota/Lexus and Honda are better then zhe Germans 😉
@@lutomson3496 who cares nowadays, when most people are getting a new car every 2 to 5 years.
Suspensions? Citroen?
I drove a Genesis G70 for a week last year. The collision detection system is far too sensitive and on a few occasions it slammed on the brakes, pulled in the seatbelts and nearly frightened the life out of me and my front seat passenger. I liked the car though.
I think Tiger Woods appreciated that sensitivity.

Powerful headlights are very important here in the north (Finland) where there might be moose and deer crossing the roads regardless of the season. It would be helpful for viewers to include some kind of test regarding stock lights not only on Carwow but on reviews by other car channels as well (as smaller sized "designer headlights" are seemingly becoming more common)
Fennoscandic car manufacturers Saab and Volvo used to take that safety aspect seriously some time ago.
A nice group test, well done

Well done AUDI. The best all around car once again! Design is always spot on!
Would be great to see a comparison between the c class, a4, 3 series and their bigger brothers e class, a6 and 5 series. Just to see if it would be worth getting the bigger Cars or just get the mid sized one but with a better Engine or more equipment
Definitely a good idea
5 series, E class and A6 are the mid sized ones.

G70 has far impressive than A4 tho.
Yeh in the EU we have power regulations unfortunately and some cars don't have the same trims. For example we cannot get the Hyundai Elantra N here in the EU. Instead we got an i30N which is no where near as fun
Nobody is picking a genesis over the Germans unless it's because of the price or because they want to be different.
Audi!❤
Audi too for me. 👍
If I would drive the new C63 S and exactly that would happen, I would be frustrated. It’s not slower but it’s also not faster despite having a lot more power.
Price vs what you get = Audi for me
The BMW is 10k less than the Audi and 5k less than the c300 that's pretty impressive considering how well the build quality is
Yeah because they aren't funneling money into pointless projects like chrysler and diesel passenger vehicles in the usa.

I'd take the Citroën...erm I mean *DS* any day of the week! There's something so intriguing about big French cars
All I'd ask for in my '20 m340i to make it the absolute perfect daily for me:
-make it a wagon (US here, stuck with the sedan)
-replace the electronic e-brake button with a proper handle
-add the M xdrive functionality from its bigger brother (AWD to RWD with a press of a button)
And for a little extra touch that I could do myself- high flow cat downpipes, real exhaust tips and perhaps a mild tune/piggyback.
Love the outside of the DS. The interior gives me mixed feelings... Still, wouldn't mind a DS9

They would lose like almost 50% of their value in around 2 and half years
It’s not a Citroen. DS is it’s own entity
have you checked priced of a bmw?
