In this video men's style, fitness, grooming and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of www.iamalpham.com, www.aaronmarino.com and www.peteandpedro.com, talks about how to find the best hair product for your desired hair style. all hair products where not created equal and knowing how to find the best men's hair styling product for the hairstyle you are going for is critical. This video shows you different men's hair styles and the products used to obtain the best men's hairstyle. Hair product selection isn't hard if you know what you are looking for and what the different terms represent.
Unless you shave your head or let your hair flow fancy-free, you are using a hair product to get the desired hair style result. The problem is selecting the right one out of the zillion available. Aaron Marino of alpha m. helps you find the right product for your hair style.
Sometimes it comes down to trial by style. It either performs like a rock star or you toss it and try another. Sometimes you become overwhelmed. But don't be because there are only two variables to consider!
Hair Product Variables | Technical Aspects
1. Hold - high, medium, and low. So if you need to lock your hair (set and forget), go for high hold. But if you want your hair to bounce, go with a medium to low hold.
2. Shine - high (wet) or natural (matte).
Hair Styling Product Options with Corresponding Hair Styles
1. Gel - super high hold and shine. It's the 'lock locking' option with shine which is great for spiky and slick styles that are stiff. It's water-soluble but has a high alcohol content. It dries out your hair.
2. Putty / fiber - high hold and low shine. They are stiff but not as stiff as gel. It's not quite as 'crunchy as gel'. It's a more natural look with a matte finish.
3. Wax - high hold with low shine. It's an oil based product, which is a downside. Alpha hates waxes; they hold the style but you can't get it out of your hair and it builds up. It sticks because it's oil based.
4. Pomade - medium to low hold (depending on brand) with high shine. They are great for short to medium length hair styles and great for slicking 50s and 60s styles.
5. Paste - medium hold and medium shine for guys with medium to long hair.
6. Mud / clay - hold is all over the board (gritty texture to lighter control) with low shine. It's great for adding thickness, texture, and dimension to your hair.
7. Cream / leave in conditioners - great for long, flyaway, and frizzy hair for more polished and professional hair.
8. Hair spray - it's the wild card. It has as many variables as hair styling products as a whole. When you spray, cover your forehead so you can avoid break-outs.
Still not sure what to use? Shoot an email to hairhelp@peteandpedro.com for a bueno hair recommendation. Send a picture of your current hair style as well as mention what hair product you're currently using.
But remember that regardless of the product you use, you have to play around with it and learn how to use the product. You gotta work it. There is finesse and a learning curve. Play with it and try it in different hair styling situations: dry, damp, hit it with a hair dryer... sometimes it comes down to trial by style. Хобби
Alrighty then... I'll just shave my head!

I too am the beholder of a vagina, and I would like to Second this comment. I say this as I stare in the mirror judging myself for not knowing anything about these hair products.
Oh Yeah. Just went with the big chop a couple of weeks ago. Having fun trying to style my hair.

I personally love beholding vaginas.
@@stevee7774 it’s not only important too get a hair product with good hold, but to get a good hold on the vagina too.

I didn't even have to go back and I knew exactly who you were talking about.
Thanks Aaron, this is super useful! I'm one of those who get paralyzed when I stare at the huge plethora of products sitting on store shelves, and end up just picking the safest option, ie. the one I've been using all along but doesn't work all that great actually.
I use Bed Head Manipulator as a base and then L'Oréal Txt It 02 putty along with Bed Head Hard Head to piece some of it out. I hit it with a bit of hair spray after that and she's done. Gives me a great messy look every time. If I have the time I will sometimes throw in some mousse while my hair is wet and blow dry so it takes form, and then repeat the steps above. Helps it keep its shape for a longer period of time, for example if you plan on going out with friends right after work.
Crap I just bought a Pete and Pedro putty yesterday not knowing so much how it will do with my hair but with this video I realize I need paste :(

this video showed me the light!
Literally no video that Alpha has made in the last 3 years even compares to the honest, insightful, helpful quality of this video
I googled "how to choose men's hairstyle products" and crossed my fingers that one of your videos would come up. This was exactly the information I was looking for, and your videos have been a godsend for me more than once. Thank you so much!
are you the one personally responding to the email?

You ever try using Guerrilla Snot Gel with pomade at the same damn time, jean tsai? The mistakes that we learn from. . . .
Kevin C. is gurila snot gel fine to use
jean tsai Fuckin ice cream? Or which dessert?
Just the video I've been waiting for thanks Alpha! I know zero about hair products and always used Axe 'spiking glue' since my old hairstyle was a faux hawk. The new hairstyle I'm going for is a classic hair part. I'm going to test out pomade and fiber to see which works for my hair better
Been buzzing my own hair for years and finally let it grow and got a comb over and fade. I always just used gel but at the babershop they used wax. Just bought some old spice fiber wax to try and i like that it doesnt make my hair look wet and doesnt feel hard like a gel does.
This video helped me because i saw wax, pomeade, putty and was wondering what the diff is. I like a matte finish vs sheen.

I've been shaving my head for years.
I finally decided to grow it out.
I have very thick very curly hair.
And oh it's a pain in the ass to keep it from being an Afro lol
Help. I laughed so hard from this part: 1:47 XD
Tea tree shaping cream is FUCKING AMAZING. The hold is incredible and has no shine. Soooo good.
And it smells awesome
Tea tree oil can mess with your hormone balance though
Tea tree also prevents lice which is always good.
Masterpsflood how though
Masterpsflood You say that with no backup evidence....
Thank you! I am a Mom to 3 teen/young adult boys with wildly different hair color, type and texture. Finally one person with all the info!
Oh man, thanks so much for this! My hair is growing pretty wild now and gel isn't cutting it anymore. I'm gonna try out some leave-in conditioner now. Thanks again!
Pomades are the best hair products out there, so much range and so many different levels of shine and hold and dont forget the smell! No point having a great pomp or slick back if it smells meh.
I use variety of products. Like hair gel hair spray pomade hair cream. Hair mousse. And conditioner
Your channel is one of my favorite, and I've recently just stumbled upon it, can't believe I haven't seen your stuff before, can't believe you don't have more than 5 million subs either! Regardless, love your stuff alpha
Alpha is by far my favorite when it comes to grooming tutorials. I don't know why anyone would dislike any of his videos lol
He teamed up with Pete and Pedro of course he is going to say it is the best
im using wax gatsby before buttt....i stopped using wax gatsby because it makes my hair thin that is why im using clay now
I use suavecito pomade and I LOVE it. I have relatively long hair that is kinda thin and drys out easily but Suavecito works perfectly for me.
You are always improving your skills in front of the camera, congrats! Greetings from Brazil
Old Spice Spiffy cheap and effective Medium hold with Matte Finish super reliable with short/medium hair for a slick back type of look like Alpha :)
I use that too! the only thing I dislike is the scent but that's just a minor nitpick
Vexaic I hate that product. It doesn't work for me
Vexaic it has like no hold but it's ok
What's your theme song? It's driving me crazy and I wanna listen to it
I can't believe how much I actually enjoyed this video so much... it's just so well done...
I went from long hair to short hair, because it was time, and this video is really helpful, because I couldn't wrap my head around all the different types of products. I even used wax, a day or 2 ago, and it was quite awful.
Omg what was that “ tiger tiger scratchy scratchy” 😂😂😂😂
I think you hit the nail on the head for me @03:30... I've been using Garnier Pure Clean for years and as I progressed into the 40 yr old bracket I noticed hair was falling out (thinning). My hair line isn't receding, but my once really thick hair is becoming sparse. I did an experiment and stopped using my gel... and noticed a very big reduction in the amount of hair falling out... So, perhaps it's been the years of alcohol based gel that I'd been using... that and just age in general. =)
Reading your comment after 6 years?! Go figure....I was about to make Garnier my brand but after reading your comment I'm skipping that brand
Thank you M u helped me find da best hair product for my hair and keep up the good work.
Lol i love this guy. this is the exact same problem i was dealing with. so many products to choose from! and not knowing which one. thank u for the advice. good talk!
old spice forge works great for me
Pomades are not just medium or low. You can get heavies. Plus you forgot to mention that some pomades are also oil based. home brewed pomades are the best.
I agree. I've been making my own hair wax for years. Fifty dollars and an hour of messing about yield about a five year supply of a product almost exactly equal to that TGIF hair wax that retails for about thirty dollars an ounce. The stuff I make is composed of completely natural products, white beeswax, castor oil, olive oil and essential oils like bay laurel, lavender and tea tree oil.
It does have the draw back of leaving a heavy build up. And leaves a heavier trace of head oil on collars and hands. I'll deal with that, rather than pay an exorbitant price for commercial crap.
It's pretty straight forward. The hardest part is getting the consistency right. I use about three parts white beeswax to about one part castor oil and one half part olive oil. Melt the beeswax over low heat add the other oils and then cool off a few drops to check consistency, add more castor oil to thin out. You want something about like chap stick. Add the essential oils of your choice just before pouring into repurposed antiperspirant stick dispensers.
It's important to use white beeswax. The yellow stuff makes a product that is an ugly colour. The olive oil is for shine. Use more for a shinier product, less for less shine. One could also substitute or simply add other oils like almond oil or grape seed oil depending on how you want your product to turn out. For a promenade, I would think you would simply add enough oils to make it more like a Vaseline consistency.
Enjoy, and I love to hear how it turned out for you if you do go ahead and make some.
Jesus Woo i have straight hair what would work for me please answer?

I know this is old but I'm watching because I have my hair cut in an undercut pixie. But my hair is very thick and wavy so I need a product to hold a style. I've been using a pomade but I feel I can find better. Thanks for your vids!
someone help. Idk what to do. i have hair that goes down to my nose. and I kinda swoop it to the side but over my eye. kinda like justin beiber. (2016) but I kinda want a wet look but I want to be able to run my fingers through it and not be frizzy. what should I use?
Do a shampoo and conditioner review please!
Surprisingly the paste from axe works amazing ...
You use texture paste, Barack Obama? I use that. I like texture paste more than pomade, because texture paste does not harden up like pomade does after it is applied.
I hate when there's long ads on youtube videos but I also have to respect that Aaron is making a living off of what he likes to do
I dont want my hair to be fancy or flashy i have the gentle mens hair cut which is a little thick but medium to short in length and i use crew and my hair stays up all day and i play football anf my hair dosent fall down the whole game so i sudjest go with crew and experiment with crew cuz there a little different for everybody and a little expensive but they last you a solide 6 months if u use a lot i mad just a little bit off the side last me a whole month and my hair stayed up all day and i love it but tell me what u use im trying to use different everything right now tell me some cheap and expensive products id love to try them
This guy makes me a bit uncomfortable each video, but I still watch all of them.

cover that farhead? hahaha

Good one bro
I am rocking a Mohawk with hard hair and have been using Gatsby moving rubber in pink and it has been working great for me
Hey Aaron, I have very thick and gritty hair and I can pretty much style how I like with water. However, my hair sort of curls up at the end and causes it to be poofy. Do you know how I can tone that down and reduce the dry and poofy look? Thanks!
guys what is a good hair product that can be used for medium/long hair with a medium to long hold and a matte finsh
Not many matte products for longer hair...
Maybe try matte paste
Motionclay from Hanz De Fuko
Redken firm grasp is the one you need!! Buy as many as you can as they are being discontinued.
Hi, I'm looking for a hair product, but I don't know, what type/what brand to get. I want a product that will keep my hair standing up and won't fall down when I sweat, because I play basketball a lot. Any suggestions?
If you want hold while playing basketball, you need INSANE hold. I would suggest Hanz de Fuko's Claymation
And get some strong hold hairspray to lock it in place
thank you.
Yes Claymation is definitely the way to go. I've used American Crew, TIGI, and other known brands. HDF is the only product that works best
or a strong hold pomade
Thanks for pointing out where yer hair is in the thumb nail. Really helped me out there
Hi. I used to use Revlon "Creator Matt Clay" a lot. However Revlon has discontinued it and its replacement is called "Matt Clay" (its a pink jar now). But the formula is completely different and now it feels weak and as generic as any other hair clay. What I really liked about it was that it left my hair with a "dry and sandy like" sensation with texture and a good hold from the moment I applied it to my hair, even if it was damp. Its been years now and I cant find a similar replacement. I have tried products like Calymation and Baxter Clay Pomade, but all of them feel smooth and more wet. Does anyone have any similar product suggestions?
I don't want 'Fop' god damn it, I'm a 'Dapper Dan' man!
hahahaha George clooney in O brother :D
I fucking love that movie.
watch yer language young fella, this is a public market
Sorry about that, daniel ainsworth. I guess people just fuck up some times. ;D
Jack1138 took me til it showed the old timie guy to realize what you meant😂😂
What can you use for long hair on top, short on side - for a thin textured hair?
workwork damn blow dry your hair remember to use hair protectant and use a paste before beggining the blow I recommend axe or Old spice then while you're blow drying run your fingers through your hair then use a Finishing paste w/shining creme and you should have a nice silky slightly shiny look
Thanks man ill try that
Kevin Sanchez i have straight hair what would work for me please answer?
Emmanuel Ayala Yeah It should ne easier with shorter hair actually
Kevin Sanchez but what product pomade, clay, wax ???
I use American crew fibre for my medium short black hair and it works great! It still looks natural and has great hold
I recently bought the PnP Putty and when I first started trying it it was a little hard to get it out the the can. It kinda fell apart. When I rubbed my hands together it felt kind of gummy. It grouped up and I had to rub it very hard to get it to loosen. But it worked great once it was in my hair. Is it suppose to be hard and gummy.
What are you currently using?
Pete and Pedro putty
***** a high hold doesn't mean you can't move your hair anymore. That only counts for gels. Gels harden up and make your hair rock solid but waxes, clays etc. don't do that. P&P putty has a strong hold, else it wouldn't keep his hair up like that.
***** Would you say the Pete and Pedro putty falls under pastes? Or rather muds and clays?
Ryan Volkmer just wanted to ask xD
+Melvin Koopmans P&P is shit guys he only advertise those guys i tryed one product and its really bad, american crew is the bes
Alpha, have you tried singing? You have a high pitch voice. I bet you can hit some crazy notes.
well,I have a very soft hair that it cant stand easily without hair products and I dont like my hair to look shiny what shall I use?
Thanks for this video! I've been using the same gel since I was 14, sounds like I need a putty for a less shiny look.
You definitely upped my game
you have no hair
Whith what hair
Alfa, show us the best way to use hair gel. :-D
It's horrible, there isn't multiple ways to use it XD
You can use it after style your hair. Just take a tiny amount and apply it on the hair that doesn't cooperate, kinda a hair spray, but since you use a tiny amount, it won't be noticeable. You can use it as a prestyler, too.
What i do if i want the hawk eye (avengers) haircut but my hair is to dry? Plz advise
I just use Vegan Beef Gelatin. Works like a charm! Mix with water and apply. 100% Organic. Most pomades were made by gelatin back in the days.
This is what I needed. Thanks Alpha!
What's the best for short curly hair?
+Connor Gmehlin Nothing.
DEEZ NUTZ
you should go look for mosturize g products that are not these trust me I tried it I have curly hair and it made it look like I baked it in the oven

hey can anyone please help me , once a time i had my hair ( it was over my bottom lip) full of volume but now ( it is after a year) it is dry and out of volume. Can someone suggest me something to bring the volume back to my hair please? ( it is as dry as it could get ) and i thought that if i cut it short it may help but nah
I like gel

love your channel.. it really helped me in transformating my looks..
What product for hard and strong hair?
What is fucked up is the added smell of the hair styling products. Are there some brands that makes non-parfumed hair style products? I wonder.
No scent hair product smells like ass. It would be sure to drive people away instead of pulling them in.
Yes there is. Sixty8chicago is one of them.
Phi Hoang true, some "all natural" scent might be weirder than some sweet scent that will make you smell like your 50y/o aunt.
But smells in chemical products can be neutralized by other chemicals. Most of the products available in my country is pretty terrible in this way.
Look up Hanz de fuko products. I have the claymation one and quicksand. MOst of them smell nothing :D
thank you both for tips. I will check those two producers.
"FARhead" Aaron? :D
what could I use for long hair? when I tie it some hair still get in front on my face or falls on the side. I need something to hold it without it getting in my face or falling down while I work
My hair is like a dark blonde version of moe from the three stooges and it stands up and get a little frizzy when it's dry and will just go in front of my eyes like a medium long bowl cut. I usually part it on my right side then flip the front over a little bit it actually looks good but is either front come back down and I'll have a clump hanging down in front of my forehead and a use lots of gel and hairspray and have everything solid and very wet looking hair. Any suggestions?
just my opinion, Alpha's hair looks oily. i have really oily hair naturally that doesn't take well to shaping. Plus i work outside and wear a hat 80% of the time I'm awake.
This guy is a great actor ..
He's a great youtuber dumbass
Are you stupid?

Imperial classic pomade, it's amazing. I have been using it for years now.
YOUR MY SAVING now I know why only my forehead gets breakouts. I searched everythere for the reason and this is the only video that talks about that. That will help so many guys. Maybe consider to make a video about that cause breakouts are killing every style.Thank god for your existence.
Having gone through a million different hair products, I am going to save you the hassle:
Gatsby Matt and Hold (It's silver in the UK, black in Asia)
By far the best product for short/medium length hair, amazing hold without the disgusting greasy/shine look. If you order it in bulk off eBay from Asia you can can get for dirt cheap (costs a lot normally). I buy a few tubs in bulk from an eBay seller and it comes to the same cost per tub as the awful supermarket stuff.
Why does nobody ever consider people with THIN hair in any review or videos like this?
Hey! There are lots of thickening products that you can find. I use Nioxin Thickening Spray and it works like magic!
reda oliver because we with super thick hair have to deal with knots and other unpleasant things. My grandfather has thin hair when he was older he could just comb it and it would stay just get a light hold product
He mentioned how muds and Clay's add texture and dimension, from what I understand these are more for people with thinner hair.
Another great video! Keep it up brother!
This was very helpful!
I have short 1-1.5 in thin fine hair. I'm looking to spike it. With a dry or medium shine look. Low to medium hold.

Aaron - it looks like you saved me from getting a bucket of my own! Great video and thank you!
My hair doesn't hold well for some reason but I hate using the shiny gels/pomade. Any products you can recommend that will hold well for a combover but not give that greasy/wet shine?

I miss when alpha did these ad free vids. Just advice, thats it. No sponsors, no shameless plugs or ads, just trying to help a guy out for free.
M Alc same.Alpha was the first I subbed to about mens care but now he's become this advertiser essentially
M Alc he still has bills lol
M Alc the guy probably spent at least 2 days of his time researching, scripting, filming, and editing this 7:20 video and he is not even getting paid for evaluating the emails people send him. You don't work for free. Why should he?
india07 firstly you don't know how much time he spent on this video. He could have spent a few weeks or a few minutes, we don't know. Secondly, you tubers already make money off the views they get for a video and the ads we are forced to watch before his videos begin. Nothing is being done for free here. He's just getting greedy and trying to get as much money as he possibly can from his viewers. It hurts his credibility when you don't know if he's recommending something he truly stands by or if he's just getting paid to sponsor it.

My hair has been straight my whole life, I like having straight hair, the thing is...
