Alpha is amazed at the men's hair product drugstore options. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is buying and testing drugstore hair products. He's heading to Walgreens for alternatives to Pete and Pedro Putty.
With fresh clean hair, Alpha tries each of the 5 hair products:
1. American Crew Fiber ($19.00) - the price is the same as Pete and Pedro Putty and the most expensive of these 5 products. It's fresh smelling, a bit of shine, and hold is decent although he feels it will go flat as soon as he goes outside. Overall, it remains a great product.
2. Axe Spiked Up ($9.50) - it's super messy, sticky, and paste-like. It has the highest hold of all 5 products. After styling, his hair feels dry with a waxy residue. Note that after he washed his hair, he can still smell the Axe. The scent is intense.
3. Old Spice Putty ($8.00) - smells mild and is really soft. The more you heat it up, the scent becomes stronger (and not to Alpha's liking in regard to the fragrance). The product goes into his hair easier than Axe but has a much lower hold than American Crew and Axe.
4. Dove Sculpting Paste ($7.75) - mild fragrance, stiff, and emulsifies easily. The hold is not great (it's medium; not as good as the Axe) but on-par with American Crew (and half the price of American Crew). Overall, this product was Alpha's favorite of all 5 tested.
5. Got2B Glued Spiking Wax ($7.00) - a higher hold with a mild scent and similar in consistency to Dove. It's very sticky, heavy, and waxy. This product is the least favorite in terms of performance.
Overall Thoughts
If you put any of these products in wet hair and let air dry, they'll lock it down. A cost effective and good product is the Dove Sculpting Paste. American Crew is really good too. The other three are decent, but the lower price equates to lower quality ingredients. Note that Alpha prefers Pete and Pedro Putty above all of these products and would spend the extra bucks on the hair he cherishes. Additionally, unlike other brands where one product is good, the entire line Pete and Pedro line is superior with super high quality.

I'm sure if I ordered from the U.S. the shipping cost would still be an extra 10-20$. I use American Crew Fiber which I think is the best one that he's tried.

The axe you bought is for shorter hair bc its the spiked up gel kind thats why it didnt work for your hair also you blow dried after putting the product, if you put it in after you blow dry you will get more hold and texture.

Srijit Ghosh Never used P&P I have used tea tree and american crew fiber and I love using american crew fiber just from one day of using it I love it I have "thick" hispanic hair hair and never was a fond of using gel so I use "cream" products and after using ACF my hair was silky smooth tea tree is good but At 15$ at my local walmart compared to tea tree at 18$ at my great clips I know who the winner is But in the future Im going to buy P&P

Just letting you know, I had that same dove product. It was great, it made my hair soft and , easy to move. But it had almost no hold. So I recommend using it as a pre styler. It works great.

Have you ever thought about going into retail stores? I would recommend tying to partner with Target, they are really trying to add a bunch of new products from smaller companies and I think it would sell really well.
I personally use Pete and Pedro and work at target, i can tell you my opinion is that they would mix well. Not only would it help you out by reaching more people but it would help Target as it continues to improve and grow.
MrGeary08 assuming he'd still be able to make a profit from selling a high quality product for only about $10 to $15 he wouldn't make as much as he currently does. The reason many small businesses don't or can't reach out is so they can maintain their quality for the price. Retail locations will want to sell for double what they purchase for. And, Pete and Pedro would be competing with other high priced products which have already established their place in the market

Hey Alpha! I fixed the hold problem with the old spice putty! There is a gel you can get from dove, the control gel fixant, that you put into your when dry or damp, and you style it to your side part look, then you put in the putty and it creates a strong hold. And surprisingly, using the gel still keeps your hair looking natural, or undone. It works really great! If you try it out let me know what you think!

I love the Dove!! I mainly use Garnier, with the hold level of 3 for softness and at the same time, use a finger tip of Dove for texture and a stronger hold. The best combination I think, if your on a budget!!

After this video i went on to buy the Dove sculpting paste. It works extremely well and I love it.
Only problem is that to get its full affect you need dry hair. Which isn’t a problem for me exactly but after practice i can’t apply it because of my sweaty and damp hair. If that wouldn’t be an issue for you then i highly recommend it and it smells great. Medium hold w a matte finish that lasts the entire day.
I've used Aveda pomade and it works and holds the best that I have used. For shorter hair I recommend that. I bought Old Spice's pomade and have been using that for the last month or two. It doesn't have the hold of Aveda but it lasts all day even after a workout and gives more fluff to my hair.

The Axe messy look is by far my fav out of all the ones that were at the store. Its not oil like at all. Its a paste and can hold really good with help of one quick spray of hairspray

I use american crew fiber and I love it, I use it without heat and spray just a little bit of high hold hair spray after and it locks it in place while looking natural.
I have really long hair, it goes like down to my chin a little bit but when i get out of the shower i let it dry on the opposite side my hairs on and when i wake up in the morning after sleeping on it kinda throughout my night it takes about till i get to school for it to stop going in front of my face but it actually is extremely soft and looks awesome so i recommend this to the people who don’t like sticky hair products or that can’t afford good ones at that.

Low fragrance smell and mixes well with AquaNet if you're driving with the top down. That combination is fantastic. I apply when my hair is almost dry and I get great results.

I love the Old Spice hair products! One tip don’t use a blow dryer. I’m not sure what it is about those products but they work better without the heat
I use American Crew, but i put it in my hair after i blow dry it. After that i give a quick spray of hairspray all around and it holds perfectly all day without having a crunchy texture. It feels like normal hair but looks great.
Also it's key to style it correctly with the hairdryer
