I got that beat! Bought a 2007 vrod from private seller. Only 3000 miles. Looks brand new. Moved it into the garage and started going through the fluids. Removed break and clutch covers .....needed a spoon to remove the crystals and debris. Literally spooned out what was once fluid. Cleaned up and flushed 5 times each before i had clear fluid throughout the system. Not fun

That’s all nifty and as you said clearly stated on cap, book, or online. That is if in fact you know for sure you got what the cap, book, or online says. If someone bought their bike from someone and didn’t think to ask about what brake fluid, how do you know what you have? The bike has been through so many hands you can’t surely know, or even trust what the cap, book, online says. So then you have to take hours to clean everything out and rebuild everything. Then you know for sure what you have. I’d say make a video on how you can identify what you have. There is not a lot out there on that. Not everyone wants or even knows how to flush and rebuild everything. I mean everything. Including the lines, those are kind of cheap enough just to buy new ones.

Can you use Dot 5 in a Dot 4 bike if completely flushing and rebuilding master cylinder and caliper?

As far as I'm aware you can if you do all the things you mentioned.

Yup, change that break fluid every 2 years OR every 10 k miles. Whichever comes first.

My 04 road king is leaking at I think the lever. It gets on my handle bar decent after like 45 mins. I’m taking care of it tomorow. Does it sound like the resivour or break lever if it’s getting on my handle bar

Without looking at it, I would most likely guess that the reservoir cap seal needs to be replaced. Leaking from the cap is quite common.

@@dissidentcustoms7582 thanks my uncle passed and left it to me I haven’t had much maintenance on it so I’m going to take the opportunity to bring it to Harley have the break oil changed and have them do a full diagnostic on it. Thanks for the reply
