  • Following last week’s video, today we show how to replace the water pump on an M104 engine, specifically on the W140 S320. Fairly easy job, definitely MUCH easier than expected from reading on forums.

      I bought my e280 with about 538k kms on it. What an experience being an instant mechanics since i couldnt afford to send it to the workshop! Hahaha

    Just FYI, this job takes longer on the W124 & R129 ( i.e. M104 prior to 09/1994) due to the belt tensioner system on those models.

      Makes sense, I do remember seeing some differences when researching but found it much easier on the W140 for sure. Thanks for watching!

    I have a 95 C36 AMG with water pump on its last legs. I have an extra motor sitting around from when I had a W140 S320 I was wondering if I could use the water pump for that motor and if changing it is the same procedure

      Possibly, but knowing Mercedes I also wouldn't be surprised if it's totally different. Visually compare and go from there I suppose. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for that - I'm about to replace my R129 SL 280's pump - all four of the bolts on mine are hex bolts - and a real pain in the a** to reach because of it. I'm guessing someone replaced your bolts with 13mm on a previous pump replacement. I must say, I'm tempted to do the same! Wish me luck!

    • @redonKiLaus

      I feel your pain - from what I've read, Mercedes used the internal and external hex bolts interchangeably throughout the years and on different models. I'd definitely swap hardware as long as you replace with high quality stuff. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

    Hi did you have to take out (or move it aside) the power steering pump go give access to the bottom nut?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  4 года назад +1

      I don't believe I did, though I took it out a few months later for a rebuild...lol. Thanks for watching!

      redonKiLaus hi I managed to take out the water pump without touching the power steering pump. Had to remove only the belt tensioning system to access the bottom front nut. Your video inspires me so much. Please keep it up

    Why are you just pointing at things and talking? I would rather enjoy you talking and showing how are you doing everything, without cutting video (time lapses)

      @redonKiLaus  3 года назад +1

      That's the walkthrough style of video I've always done...I'd love to do timelapses but don't have the equipment for it and often take so much time on projects batteries would die leading to incomplete video clips. Thanks for watching!

      @@redonKiLaus did your temperature change after changing the water pump I have the same engine on my car and I am experience experiencing hot running engine in the summer. I change weedeater I change thermostat and I rated the fans to start at 90° but the car still gets hot. The only thing I haven’t changed is the water pump and I wanted to check with you.

      @redonKiLaus  4 месяца назад

      @@adam1198s It did and was a good bit better/more stable. That said, mine does run slightly hotter in summer, and if I hit traffic, gets uncomfortably hot/may overheat. I typically don't drive it in summer, or when I do, only short local trips with little to no traffic implications.
