Your channel was recommend by a viewer of a video on my channel where My 2012 Mercedes Benz c300 is making a very loud noise on cold start up... I was hoping I'd get to hear the car running before you fixed the issue that way I could compare the sound/noise to mines but maybe next time..
This is great. My w212 e350 seems to need new idler and tensioner pulleys every 30k miles or so. They get noisy when the first cold day, 30 degrees or so, occurs in the fall.
@@darryld8200 I did replace my own. I bought a kit from fcpeuro.com that had two idler pulleys, tensioner pulley, and a new belt for $150 US. It was straightforward. Remember to take a picture of how the belt is routed BEFORE you remove the belt. My cam seals also were leaking at about 60k miles. I bought mine as a CPO with an extended warranty so they replaced them under warranty. The dealer told me it was a common issue.

Always find your videos enLightening. Found myself using them a LOT! On a side note, I'm not sure how I missed it before but I use the same Light I saw in the closing of your vids. Again, thanks Bro for the great vids.
Torquing this one to 30nm is mandatory with an aluminium block and absolutely no need of threadlocker... I've seen so many threads destroyed by overtightening (been working at MB for years) , you must follow mb procedures and torque specs if you want your engine to last long (especially 272/3 engines). They have been not defined randomly in the WIS, there's a good reason for that!
Weird question brother, I have a weird "supercharger" sound with my s550 (m273 5.5 v8) The sound shouldnt be there, since its an N/A engine. I just replaced the alternator which had some movement in it, but that wasnt it. It is belt driven since the sound only is there when the belt is on. There is nothing leaking anywhere. Also, the sound comes up when the engine hits 50C, under that temperature, no weird sound You might have any idea what it is?
I changed all those idler pulleys and tensioner pulley. Still get the crickets. I guess I should check the alternator, water pump, power steering and AC pulleys.
How much whining noise was left after leaving the ac like that? I have slight whine and the ac bearing makes less noise then yours when spun separately.
thanks for explaining which side is which, the ones with the bumps/raised pimples faces you on reinstall. You would think the mfg'r would indicate front/back. Again - THANKS
I have a 2007 gl450 annex I have replaced the alternator, serpentine belt, and the idle pulley. But my alternator is smoking when I start the car. I'm not sure whaT is wrong. Do you think you can help me. I also can't remember where my grounding wire is to be connected on the alternator
You can change just the pulley on the tensioner but if your tensioner is around 60k miles and the markings are off alignment, then I’d replace the whole assembly, not just the pulley. Because the spring loosens and wears over time, and even if you replace the pulley and it’s quiet - you may be fooling yourself…your belt is not properly tensioner and your accessories aren’t spinning correctly as they should
Hi Keith, Please advise. I have a B200 diesel W245 I have shredded 3 serpentine belts already, I replaced 2 noisy freewheel pulleys 3rd to be replace soon, Changed new bearing in the Ac Compressor (Pulley was wobbly) and both bearings in the alternator(one was noisy). Also serviced the Alternator clutch pulley. Checked the main crank pulley but this was fine on a visual inspection also pushed it a little with a screwdriver and it didn't move, Water pump feels fine and no noise coming from there, but it looks like the belt strips form the back and then comes apart like a clean cut diagonal across the belt. Also tried to take off freewheel pully between ac compressor and waterpump and bent my size 10mm spanner ? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. First time working on a Merc.
I have a rattling/loose crank pulley in a 2014 c250 auto. Is it usually the case to simply change the pulley as in this video, or could it be a more sinister issue further inside the crank?
it depends. Did you wiggle it around with your hand? I would replace that pulley to see if the noise goes away (since it is loose it needs to be changed) then move on from there. Often times more than one pulley needs replacing.
iRepair Autos thank you. Your videos are great! They've helped me with the intake manifold replacement and others. Just enough detail but not too long.
Got this AC kit out of Miami for my W210.Easy to install. Will need to evac the system before removal and charge up with r143a refrigerant after.www.ebay.com.au/itm/222029722817
Mine is exactly like that... 06 280 4 matic.. that idler pulley you replaced...on mine it has a washer on it and I have had the belt shredding ever since I replaced it... any ideas... I used laser to align alt and PS pully from crank as reference and those are accurate.... and used straight edge to align the smooth and ribbed idler pullies with the water pump pully but belt still begins to wear and eventually jump off or gets shreaded with a couple weeks...any ideas?
You can. But that’s usually just to tell if your noise is coming from the front of the engine. If you already know that, then taking the belt off and running the engine for a quick minute won’t yield you any meaningful conclusion
You’ll know when it snaps. Power steering gone, then the battery light comes on and then your temp climbs quickly. Happened to me on Sunday just before I pulled onto my drive. So not something you can miss 😀
Just in cold starts there's a light rough 2 seconds clanking noise. Most of the time it does it, but not always. Supposedly it's common. Do you know about this? Some say is oil pressure related, and that is a different problem than the crank shaft gear, supposedly is the crank shaft bearing or something like that. I my w164 272 I use 0w40 synthetic Mobil 1, next time I try 5w40 or 10w40 (merc spec) . To cancel the oil theory Have you had this issue?

Thank you. I took my car to a mechanic and after changing the belt I can still hear the squeak. I feel competent ow thanks to you.
Very steady hands when taking the video & step by step instructions are clear. Good job !
I like how you take care to do your video's with such great detail and the video editing is very visual and you see great detail. Thank you.
Your videos have really saved me some dollars. Thank you and keep up the good work!
THANK you..... I could not figure out how to remove those pullies as I didn't know about those little caps hiding the bolts! Again, thanks!
Wish you had turned the engine over to hear the noise
Great video, instructive, no extra BS - thanks!

Wow, thanks dude. I have a W211 and your video is the best for showing whats going on , very well filmed. Thanks :-)

Thanks for the video, very beneficial, can you please show us how to remove the prower steering pump pulley?

Great video. Thanks.
Great vid. i try and zero in a bit first with the engine running with a stethoscope. My last time was a bad water pump.
Yes that works as well. Thanks for commenting and watching!
Thank you for great video and advice.

What a lot of sites don’t say is it much easier if you take the radiator fan out first. Especially on the 320

Is there a part number to just replace the pulley on the belt tensioner? The tensioner is in good shape, just the pulley is making noise.

My ac and ps pulleys dont make noise but they don't continue to spin when I spin them. Is that bad or normal?

what motor is this? it looks like a m156?
My car noise starts when I start my car it gets louder when I accelerate, the noise is still there when it’s standstill and the engine is started?
So much room for activities…lol. Did you have to take out the fan to have enough room to get to the belt?
Why does my tensioner have a shock attached to it?08 c300 manual
Whats is the torque on idler pulley?
There's a hole to hold the tensioner pully right ?

If the A/C pulley is bad do you have to replace the entire air conditioning unit? I couldn't find a separate A/c pulley that they sell.
