number one thing a person looks for when buying farm property, water infrastructure, that by itself makes it a whole lot more sell-able, and valuable! You seriously have it right on with that decision!

On your well overflow, you may want to consider putting a check valve on it. That will prevent water flowing back into the well and causing contamination.

@@LumnahAcres I'm New to your channel and I was amazed that you didn't get advice on the drill pump ? First of all those need to be primered regardless of the instructions , second, they are made for pumping fluids that are pretty much level , but you can always siphon fluid from the highest to lowest point no matter what the depth of the fluid is, longer hose required but very effective and quicker than what we would think , Anyway my point is that I enjoyed your channel so far and I wish you both the best in your future endeavors and may you live long enough to enjoy it before you get my age ! I didn’t ever think that I’d be almost totally disabled at 69. I would suggest that when you build your home, that you make it handicap friendly, with wider doors, etc. Get a copy of the ADA (American Disability Act) quidelines & see what you can use in your house. My parents did that & it sure came in handy when my dad ended up in a wheelchair. The OGP is coming along nicely! Y’all are hard workers, that’s for sure. Stay safe & healthy!

It’s called planning for a rainy day. Being prepared for the worst scenario as well as the best. It’s the problem with so many people today. Hardly anyone plans far enough ahead. I remember coming home from the Marine Corps in 1978 and everyone questioned why I bought property and the first thing I built was a nice shop and storage building. But that building became my business center it was then the stepping point to building a new home and the place Place my wife and 4 children made our life. Looking forward to what may happen is just great planning being ready for that rainy day that might befall anyone.

Going back to the well drilling video, what old memories that had for us. We had some land in Western North Carolina and decided to build a summer cabin on it. Giving away our ages, this was in the mid-seventies. At that time the only inspections were for septic and electric. The well drilling however was state of the art for the time. I remember taking off work so I could be there to watch the process. $10 a foot and only a limited amount in the checking account. I know the feeling watching the drilling and the casing going down. Every 20ft section going down and our checking account with it. At 130' we hit 1 1/2 gallons per minute. We went down another 50' for storage and I had to tell them to stop. Very stressful. It was not really enough but it served our needs for 25 years until we sold it. It is still pumping to this day; we know the owner. Thanks for the videos.

While I suspect this property will be in your family forever, you never know where life will lead you. We are living in our fourth "we are never going to move again" home, one of which was a farm. So anticipating a potential future sale is smart. You three are making tremendous strides on the OFG property, remember it was a heavily wooded forest just recently. Pumps are much better at pushing than pulling(why you have a down hole well pump) if you had put in a check valve in the line you could have primed it by shaking it backward and forward. The only way you are going to keep water out of that pipe is to drain it out, if there is enough fall to allow it.

It is very windy today and there are thousands of leaves flying all over the homestead. LOL, loved watching you play in the mud. All boys do it! We know about the "ho well, no mortgage". We went to our NY bank and they said no. We got our loan through a local farm bureau here in NC. You are not crazy to think about the "what if". Better to plan that not to plan. Blessings to all.

Anytime you have metal or PVC pipe buried underground, as a conduit, it will fill with water over time even if it's sealed...the moisture in the air will condense when it goes thru cycles of warm and cool temps. That is why NEC requires any wire buried below grade in conduit to be rated for wet locations...because the conduit protects it from mechanical damage (as in your pipe in this case, but it is no protection from the moisture....it WILL get wet...

    • @jerryspevak335

Didn't even think about that when I designed the system! I just got lucky. But code does require THHN insulated wire.

I am new to your videos and share your passion for development and self help. A couple of observations watching the videos on well installation(we call them boreholes over here in the UK). we put one in on our property a year ago and faced many of the same challenges as you. We used 40mm(1.5 inch) round stones to bed in water pipes and drains. They support the infill better than sand(also cheaper). I try very hard not to have any pressurised fittings/joins under ground. If you must, put them in an inspection chamber. I also have used frost proof faucets bought in W. Virginia. We get cold winters in Scotland too. Bedding in the base in stones gives a better run off for the faucet when you close the top lever..All in though I am impressed with what you are doing and wish you all the best with it.
