    Hello I just wanted to say that it’s a good idea to pull a spare string or rope when you pull your power cable through. That way if you ever need to pull more you will always have a line to tie on and not have to fish one through.

  • @lawrencepevitts2434

    When you pull your wires thru the conduit, attach a rope for future pulls. Every time you add more wires, include a rope for subsequent additions. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to push a fish tape thru with existing wires already in the conduit.

    Before you try loosening g the grease fitting see if the track will reset itself. Boom over the track that's skipped the idle and lift (with the boom) that side of the excavator until the load is off the track. Then slowly with Gina watching try back tracking to see if it will correct itself. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.
    One thing I found I. The past is try not to turn when ever you're in loose rocky soil. The smaller rocks will work their way onto the track and cause it to skip the idler. Anytime I'm in loose rock I lift the front off the ground and track/rotate to point the direction I want to travel. It prevents side loading of the track and helps prevent track skip.

    You should put caps over the exposed ends of the conduit to keep water out of the pipe. If water gets in it will pool at the lowest point and freeze and then you can't pull wire through it. Plus, it isn't good to have wires covered in water in the conduit. Water is the bane to electricians.

  • @SteampunkSteve
    @SteampunkSteve 2 года назад +2

    When you are ready to pull cable through the conduit here's a trick an electrician showed me to make it easier. Tie a plastic bag to some twine. Stuff the bag loosely into one end and suck it through to the other using a shop vac.

    Our first official snow melted off and it was 46 F today. In the 80s there was always snow on the ground by Halloween. And cold. I can remember deep snow in mid-October. Not anymore. Not for quite a few years now. Your project looks great and it's obvious you are planning for the future. You will be in a much more flexible and tenable position when the animal waste material strikes the rotating wind generation device. I hope your grandchildren will appreciate the treasure you are leaving them: Land, food, and a home.

      We haven't even had flurries yet here in western Massachusetts. We used to have our first heavy freeze usually in early October or even as early as September, and snow covering the ground from about thanksgiving to spring thaw. From 1 to 2 feet the whole time. Last winter we had bare ground more than snow cover except in the plow piles or shade.

    Consider running the DC line to your inverter mounted on the wall CLOSEST to the solar array, then run the AC line from there to your switchboard. That will lower your line losses.

    • @StoneKathryn
      @StoneKathryn 2 года назад

      I was thinking that too because DC loses a lot of power from resistance. The sooner he converts it to AC the better but his batteries have to store DC and fat wire for DC is expensive. Edison was against AC but his DC system would have had to use huge wires to run power to everyone.

    You have to use THHN wire which is rated for wet locations, because water will condense out on the inner conduit walls. You might want to seal the conduit ends after your wires are pulled, just to keep it dry as possible. If you wire your PV panel strings so they produce a higher voltage (within the limits of your charge controller) then you will have less loss in the wire for a particular gauge. The wire gauge is determined by the current, not the voltage. Makes sense to use a heavier gauge than necessary in case you decide to upgrade in the future.

  • @davidclark2286
    @davidclark2286 2 года назад

    That solar panel frame is definitely in the shade in this video. Winter mornings early gradual sun, consequently early gradual power is very useful to charging your batteries. In the morning your battery voltage is lower so the low voltage early sun is more beneficial. Longer supply run is not brilliant but better than shade.
    If you have not picked your charge controller inverter set up pick one with higher voltage, think normally 500 v are available. More volts less power loss.

    The easy way to get a pull line in your conduit is to use what we call in the trade - a rat. This available at an electrical supply house. It nothing but a round piece of foam with a metal eye in the center. To use it you push the rat in one end of the conduit with a pull string (preferably mason line) tied to the rat. On the opposite end of the conduit run attach a vacuum hose for an air tight seal. Turn on the vac and it will pull the rat through along with the pull line.
    We do this on every conduit job. It's much faster for us.
    Good luck and the great videos coming. Praying for your success.

    measure the depth lines and weld a line on the bucket and then get a piece of card and cut a slot line in the middle of it then spray on white paint on the bucket to give you depth lines... works great....

    I'm glad you didn't have to dig very deep Al. You could hand dig around the septic connection if you are really worried about hitting it with the excavator. I saw the building materials delivered yesterday by Ken and crew under that tarp. I hope you aren't paying them to bring the lumber to the jobsite. I can understand why Ken wanted the rafters to cut at his shop but to have materials delivered to him for free from the lumber yard and then have to bring it up to your jobsite himself is counterproductive. I would think it could have been delivered up to the OGP. You have plenty of room to put it on and then when it is time to use them you have equipment to move it toward the tiny house build. That was a beautiful sunrise with Pluto standing in the driveway. Looks like you never trenched it Al. Nice blue sky at the end. Thanks for this Lumnahs!

    There are rock picker tools to pull behind a tractor working off the PTO. It would be good to have the rocks removed before grass grows. You need a JD 4440 or 4442 which can do real work.
    Also, you need a 12 to 14 foot disk and a harrow. Another way to level the ground is with a 16 to 20 foot heavy I beam to pull behind a tractor. And, you might look into terracing to control with water. Get a real chain saw working off gasoline: Stihl....the bigger the better they work.

I am glad the track on the excavator started to come off near the end of filling in the trench, hope all goes well getting it back on, if you watch a guy called Andrew Camarata he shows you how to get it back on. I think you need to get some caps for those pipes you keep installing. It would keep the rain from getting into the pipe. Also use a leaf blower to install the pull cord.

    Al, I reckon you dug that long hole to use your "Big Boy Toys", what do they call it 'Future Proofing'. All you have to do now is 'train a little mouse to take string line through the conduit.' really coming along nicely. Been watching Ken getting things ready for you.

      He can use a strong vacuum or an air compressor to get s pull string through that. Honestly though, the 3 inch conduit is so big with respect to the size of the conductors he will put through it that he can probably just push them through over that short a distance

    Are you going to bring the wet/dry vacuum out and use it to suck the pull line through the conduit again? Power it from the generator. Also don't forget to leave a pull line in place after you run the power cables. Makes it easy for future expansion with an extra pull line left in the conduit.
