- Could the Space Babies be a bigger part of the season that just episode 1?
I have a wild theory that Ruby might just be one.

Very interesting theory. That the babies recognise either the Doctor and/or Ruby certainly adds to the possibility. As for the speaking thing, maybe its only possible while they're on the space station. Maybe going to earth converts a space baby into a regular baby. Or it's as you suggested, Ruby was just younger than the talking ones. Ruby herself seems to think she was mere hours old/less than a day when she was found. Or that's what she's been told. It would certainly explain why there doesn't appear to be any info on her parents.
You know who else grew life forms in tanks? The Rani.

2:30 I think there is another adult on board; Golda Rosheuvel was announced the other day to be playing a character called Jocelyn. The screens in the background of the image they used to announce her seem to show the corridors which are definitely in episode 1 with the Boogeyman. It's still possible that she's not a parental figure to the space babies and instead working with the boogeyman, though.

Something like this is much more likely than Ruby being another "Timeless Child" as many have been speculating. I just don't think RTD is interested in exploring that kind of lore, plus he loves his Doctors to have the lonely undercurrent.
True. I don’t expect Timeless child to play much of a role in any plot beyond being background for the Doctor feeling alone as an orphan, not knowing where he’s from and connecting to Ruby on that level.

I think RTD is reusing the abandoned Sky plotline from series 5 of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Oh interesting. How was that meant to end? I only know vaguely of it as I didn’t get around to watching the last season of Sarah Jane adventures. (Must get around to it at some point)
@@CulturePhilter IIRC had the finale been filmed it would have been revealed that The Trickster was involved with Sky's creation and manipulated events so that she arrived on Sarah Jane's doorstep as a baby in 'Sky'. Resulting in The Trickster manifesting in the universe and all hell breaking loose.
@@paulg9 that rings a bell. I might have read about that. Was it meant to end in an episode called “The Battle of Bannerman rd”?

Back in season 1 there was a story that never went to film about the 9th doctor having created rose as the ideal companion, it was said to be written by the Paul Abbot, of shameless fame. Could RTD. have worked on this and developed it further
Oh yes, I remember hearing about that being one of the early plans for Rose.
The Doctor always claimed he could speak "Baby" and the TARDIS is translating (for companions and the audience alike). In Mary Poppins (the book) Babys loose their ability to talk to animals, as soon as they acquire teeth and a grasp of the human language.
True but the TARDIS has never translated baby for companions before and this feels different to that or just the Doctor understanding. I Might be wrong though.

Wait... Carla fosters babies... what if every baby Carla fostered was a baby dropped at different points in time... what if it isn't just about Ruby but all of them
It would certainly be a twist that Carla is the special one who has somehow been chosen. But chosen by who?

Are the Space Babies the sworn enemies of the Goblins? Might explain why the Goblins came for Ruby.
I did wonder if as part of this theory the goblins might have been after her because she was the successful experiment…. Forgot to mention it in the video though 🤦♂️

Yes ....she's from Skaro made and engineered by Davros and plopped into that satellite thing which will be jokey in the opener then OOOOOH links up ....ruby will put herself on the church to start the chain of events

She could be but I think she'll end up being from another universe that fits with the whole supernatural and more fantasy elements of this era. The Doctor doesn't seem to have the reaction that the space babies are a myth or shouldn't happen or any of that and I think Ruby will be a myth of some kind
It could be that the whole space babies station (and the bogeymen monsters on it) come from another universe.

@@CulturePhilter no I'm not saying that I just mean the way he says 'Space Babies' it seems more of an excited thing maybe something he's heard about before perhaps? Obviously I'm just going by a few seconds clip so it's hard to tell if he knows about them or not
