"Irresistible New Zealand Steak and Cheese Pie Recipe - Make Your Taste Buds Dance!"

Steak and Cheese Pie Recipe
Ingredients
Short crust pastry
3 1/3 cups of all purpose flour
250 grams butter
2 eggs chilled
6 -8 tsps of cold water
(Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or by hand by rubbing the butter first until the butter combines well with flour then add eggs and cold water until it combines together into a dough
Knead gently by hand for few minutes and let it sit for 1/2-1.00 hour in the fridge before rolling it.
Steak and Gravy for filling
1 kg of good quality steak
1 cup of flour
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2-3 cups of beef stock
Salt and pepper to season
3 Tablespoons Worcester Sauce (Optional)
1-2 tsp dark soy sauce
1 stalk of celery
1 bay leave
1 teaspoon paprika
1 large onion chopped
5 cloves of garlic minced
1tsp sage
Finally Add your favourite Cheese on top
Method for Steak Gravy
1. Toss the meat in plain flour then brown meat and transfer to a plate.
2. Add a 2 tablespoons of oil in the pot then cook onions until it's brown.
3. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook through then add the meat back in the pot with the beef stock. Bring to boil.
4. You can transfer to a slow cooker and cook on low heat for few hours until the steak meat is nice and tender.
5. You can also cook it in on low in the oven @ 15 degrees Celsius for 2 hours.
6. Once meat and gravy is thickened, cool it down and have it ready to assemble your pies.

Hi there! We can never have enough of pies. We always have it at least once a week. I sometimes make heaps and freeze them raw when I meal prep for the family. It turned out really good too.

@@mealswithmilz I foolishly bought beef ribs from the butcher so had to make a few adjustments but I was able to make the stock from the bones after roasting it.
Also went with hot water pastry because it's super easy to make, tasty and holds liquids really well.

I wish I have the equipments like the bakery with all the multiple pie tins and pastry maker but since it’s home cooking 🧑🍳 we can still cook and make home cook pies taste scrumptious as we can. I would love to hear your take on other flavor pies. I have other flavors I’m yet to make when I return and even remake the steak and cheese pie again with homemade puff pastry. So every week at work, one chef per day has to make staff meal. Lately, I've been wanting to up my game so to speak, and really begin to immerse myself as a chef and express my creativity and dedication. I decided to do a pie for the very first time, my favorite pie for that matter being steak and cheese!
By the way, I'm the commis chef, and have had absolutely no culinary experience. I come from the office lol.
I've been doing this for around two years and it's just within the last couple of months my confidence and pride as a chef has manifested.
This recipe was so easy to follow and the way you showed it was even better for me too. I really appreciate all the time you've taken to make this video. From the goods being purchased to the cooking to the editing of the video. Your hard work has not been done in vain! The chefs loved it, I loved it, the taste was awesome! Thank you so so much! @@yjky0807 you could definitely leave the tomato paste out. I sometimes add marmite or Vegemite perhaps a table spoon for flavour.

You’re most welcome friend. Thank you for your kind words. It takes time to prepare particularly for the pastry and even a good tasty filling of slow cooked steak but it’s all worth it in the end and you can make heaps and store in freezer. All the best with your pie making and happy baking ❤️😊

There’s some that are close to it but it can cost a lot so it’s nice to be able to try and make some at home even though it might not as close as the bakery ones back home😄😄 I made my own pastry now and I think it’s the key to have a nice homemade pie with some flavourful slow cooked beef 🥩 and cheese that should satisfy the cravings😃. I realise now that if you master making your own flaky pastry at home and a nice flavour filling you're better off making your own pies at home. Hi Mike! Thank you so much for your kind feedback. I have made the recipe again for the family and I’ve made both pastries from scratch at home especially the flaky pastry for the top. It makes a big difference in my opinion. What is Ale by the way if you don’t mind me asking pls? 😊
Another Brit, and yes, steak & ale, steak & kidney or beef & onion might be our standards, but I made some of these steak & cheese pies a couple of weeks ago and they were simply orgasmic.
And Milz, ale is usually ruby coloured or darker varieties of beer, as opposed to lighter or lager beers.
@@mealswithmilz Ale is a lighter Golden colour often sold as Pale Ale and darker longer brewed beers are much darker :)
