Literally stumbled upon your channel. The wife and I both love shooting neither of us have any long range experience this video series has really opened our eyes to see this is affordable. Also being fellow SC folk we hope to shoot with you someday at the Clinton house.
That’s awesome and thanks for watching. Feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions and I will do my best to help. 👍🏼 Thexringchannel@gmail.com
This was a lot of fun. It reminds me of my trap shooting buddies when a couple of times a year we dig out our old 870 wing master pumps and other 50 year old guns and just shoot for fun. All the guns together would be cheaper than one Krieghoff, but the fun we have is priceless.
Very nice shots with an inexpensive rig. I really enjoyed this and the last video with only one complaint, but you corrected that issue, Apology accepted.
Ray, after 25 years in the Marines using iron sights, seeing how to quickly dial in a scope was super useful. Scanning the rest of your videos to find the tools you were using in the background. Thanks for the clear, concise info.
That was the best 2 part long range video I have seen in two years of watching long range shooting, Thanks a bunch I found myself really having fun watching it. I am 77 years old and shot trap and now I am thinking about shooting long range and have a little more fun with the rest of my time left. Thanks Ray
"Chamber Cooler" I thought he was kidding, very nice video set Part 1 and Part 2, congratulations. Well done. Just bought a Tikka Super Varmint on 6.5 Creedmor, changed the stock to MDT and put an Arken SH-4J 6-24x50, I have not shot it yet but was wondering if the 140gr or 147gr would shoot better out of my barrel, I guess will have to test.
Young man, I watched your video and it left me feeling bad. Your effort and shooting were exceptional. I guess the bad is pulling the curtain off the wizard. Things have progressed so much from where I started shooting. You have exposed, to some extent how much of this is mythical when the goal is so specific. I guess, everything has “progressed” (I hate that word for many reasons) to the next level of distance and accuracy. Records are made to be broken, but when the records are based on equipment… ah well, just an old man talking.
@@XRING love to have a conversation with you and get your feelings on the state of shooting today. I am older, done a few things in life (just like anyone old) and have watched technology literally take over. The end result often ends with "who has the deepest pockets" that is what troubles me. Really enjoy your work.
I just bought a Athlon Argos BTR Gen II 8-34X56mm FFP for $388! Couldn’t be happier with the quality of the glass and the Christmas tree reticle This channel is what got me into long range. Keep up the great content. 👍🏽🇺🇸
I have some very high end optics (NF, Stiener, Zeiss), but recently purchased an Athlon Ares ETR to put on my Tikka varmint rifle and I have to say for an affordable scope, it's VERY good, I'm impressed.
@@rideswift same here. The quality you get and tons of features for a sub $400 scope is really good. And the lifetime warranty is just chef’s kiss! Enjoy your scope 👍🏽
With barrel and bullet technology where it is, this doesn’t surprise me at all. For just over $1500, I put together a PRS ready rifle that consistently shoots 300 yard groups under an inch with my hand loads using Berger 115’s. It’s got a 26” Shilen 1:7 twist 6mm creedmoor barrel, Savage 110 action, MDT LSS-XL chassis, and an Arken 6-24.
Meanwhile, the dudes next to you with $6,000 setups still struggling....amazing video. Easy sub. This is real youtube gun content, not any of that other dribble on here. 👏🎖
I've seen people with several thousand dollar setups that can't do that......but I digress, I'm not a professional 🤔🤔🤫🤫🤫 but as you know, and what others haven't learned yet, is it's the skill set of the PERSON behind the action, NOT the rifle. Great video bro, stay safe 👍👍
I did a $20 Mcarbo trigger kit on my axis several years ago and it’s the best $20 I’ve spent. Springs down to 1.5 pounds, stopper screw, and shims for the sides.
Guys I have had the pleasure to meet and talk shop with Ray at Clinton House Plantation at the first Zeiss challenge. Very friendly and down to earth. He is obviously also an outstanding shooter and excellent at making and presenting these videos. Great job Ray, I'm a big fan of shooting on a budget and budget builds
Outstanding video. I have just recently became interested in shooting at distance. I can say it is addicting once you start that journey. It's an amazing "self- challenge"'.
This is a great point that you made Ray. Long range shooting has never been this easy or accessible. This has got to be one of my favorite videos that you’ve done. Thanks for letting us tag along.
I fully enjoyed watching this 2 videos and many others like your 1mile challenge although I'll probably never get the rifle since I'm in EU and we can't just go and get it . All the security checks , permits either for marksman or for hunter and for those you need courses and then you need to cash out for rifles that are 20% more priced in some of EU countries and after all you need to refresh license yearly and pay additional fee for owning guns .. . Not to mention i don't think there is half mile shooting range in 300km proximity around me and i would be surprised if we had any 1 miles if not military range in the country . Anyways i wanted to say You provide excellent content and knowledge from years of experience which makes your videos very informative , educational and encouraging. Keep on doing great work :)
You are such a talented shooter and a gifted presenter and teacher. I would love it if you had a series on the fundamentals of marksmanship: breathing, trigger pull, follow through, cheek weld, target acquisition, position and manipulation of rear bag, etc. I know that there are lots of videos already covering this. Ryan Cleckner's for instance, are great. But your down to Earth and clear, step by step no-nonsense approach would be of tremendous value for all of us who enthusiastically follow your channel. Hey, you are responsible for getting many of us into long-range shooting, after all! : ) And I just discovered you are into motorcycles too, I love that R1200 GS!
Im new to the show, and im definitely a new subscriber. I just watched both episodes and i can barely keep my eyes open. You just made all this look so easy i have to give it a chance myself. I appreciate your ending words of wisdom.
This really goces me confidence with my rifle choice. Ive been so into splitting hairs with bolt guns i never took a minute to look at whether or not the specific rifle itself is so important to get the job done. Looks like as long as i get something with a decent reputation and a known cartridge learning long range shouldnt be too hard. Thank you
I really enjoyed this series! Thank you for sharing. I just subscribed. I am fairly new at long range, A few years back I attended Barbour Creek Shooting School where we were able to hit clay pigeons at 1000 yds. I have always wanted to try 1 mile, and was excited to find that I am only 2 1/2 hrs from Clinton House!! Time to make some plans!
Well it was a most enlightening two part video and really demonstrated your shooting ability even with a low budget rig, very appealing to a Scottish person. 😂 Your content is some of the very best on You Tube.
Wow. Very inspiring Ray. And I agree with you 110%, tell family and friends how much they mean to you. Time has a way of slipping by. Thanks again Ray.
Well Done!! A true budget build, just proves that it can be done, I may rethink my custom rifles. The 6.5 Creed is popular for a reason, not owning the calibre may adjust my thinking. my 270 WSM and 300 WM need a stable mate.
Congratulations 🎉that’s my next shot I do mirror backwards shots , I’ve lite a match with a 22LR hand gun so now moving on to this 1 mile shot , great shot great video!,,,,,😊!,,I just need Rifle lol 😂
Thank you for this. I recently decided I wanted to get into long range, but I have a very limited budget, and this proves that it can be done. Of course, if I decide I really enjoy it, then I can always upgrade later, but this will get me started. I will probably spend a little more and go with the Ruger American Gen 2. I enjoy your channel and have learned a lot watching you. Take care.
If you can save up a bit more you should really consider the Ruger Precision Rifle. There is a big aftermarket for it and right out of the box its actually really decent from what I hear.
I own 2 of those entry level axis in 223 and 308. Both came with the scope with one being a Bushnell. I bought the 223 to plink with and range brass is abundant - a buddy gave me around 200 pieces of 308 to neck down to 7mm-08 so I thought why not. Both have been fun to play with and I would deer hunt with the 308 in a second. But, it boils down to what are you trying to do. I'm no long range or PRS shooter. -Rock on
Buying the 24 inch threaded barrel left hand version of this rifle from a friend, just got the same optic and a magpul bi-pod... gonna be joining the 1 mile club soon, might need to get more moa out of the pic rail to make it happen but thanks for the video friend.
You did it!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the two day vlog. It was exciting to watch, and cheer for you along the way. Thank you for the education and a great episode!
I enjoyed meeting you today and seeing you hit that 1 MOA target with that "cheap" rifle! Obviously the shooter had a little something to do with it being able to hit at a mile, but you proved it can be done. Great video, looking forward to the next one!

Just saw your part 2. Awesome job on the video and showing people you can shoot long range without breaking the bank. It also should get more people into LRPS which is also great. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing! I got into shooting long range several years ago but I only have a 1000 yard range. Just hitting the target didn’t do anything for me I had to shoot for groups. Dozens of .5 moa and less out of a Ruger rifle I paid $800 for
G Day Ray. Great 2-part Video and while I'm with you it can be done, I don't think anyone would discount your skill in it being a massive part of getting the job done. I know it would take me a lot more than 2 boxes to make it happen. But watched Pt 1 couldn't wait for the 2nd Good stuff.
Great job! I appreciate your time and putting this together for the lucky winner. Edited, I thought I was a new sub, but I've been subbed for a while 😂. Long day.....
That was awesome! Thank you so much for doing this! I have aspirations for long range shooting on a budget. This gives me massive motivation and hope! I'm very sure that I'll need more ammo. MUCH more. Lol!
Very Impressive Marksmanship 🎯 That’s all you for the most part . 🎯 Bravo on the demonstration of the budget equipment that can be utilized to achieve the results you demonstrated very well done Sir . Very impressive. 👏
$812 in equipment, $100,000 in knowledge and experience . Great shooting as always

Thank you Manuel!
Great knowledge and shooting skills.
When someone makes something that difficult look simple and easy, you know they’ve been doing it for years if not decades.
This was inspirational. Thanks Ray! Your time, effort and expertise are greatly appreciated.
Dude teaches a master class in practical long range rifle and optics setup in under 45 minutes. Absolutely brilliant!
The amount of knowledge in these 2 videos is incredible.
Thank you! Much appreciated.
I'm glad the algorithm suggested this 2-parter to me
I appreciate you watching . 👍🏼

This is by far the absolute best long range shooting video I've seen in a very long time, especially on a setup under $815. Awesome stuff!!!
When you pulled the bolt out and did your initial setup looking through the barrel I knew I had found a channel for me!!!
$812.12 doesn’t buy your skills ray😂 Nice job!

You have the Skills. It is the Man behind the rifle more often than the Weapon system .

The anticipation is real! I've been wanting to get out to a long range and test out my build. I'm not ready for this distance yet.

Love your content but this one was outstanding in that it showed us, you don’t need to go into debt to enjoy long range shooting.
Thats pretty neat that your able to do all of that in a day!
Well done! Now you're in my headspace & budget 😀. You know how much I love maximizing budget friendly options!
Hey Stribble! I hope you have been well. It’s great to hear from you.
Just saw your part 2. Awesome job on the video and showing people you can shoot long range without breaking the bank. It also should get more people into LRPS which is also great. Keep up the good work.
Good job , really impressed , love spending time at the range as often as I can

So glad you did this video. This will change minds of some of the long range guys out there. Plus, it will get more people into it. Awesome content.
Tell your wife & kids you love 'em, cause life is short...
Words to live by!!!
😂😂😂 Job well done Sir you proved the the point
Good video. Nice to see people proving there are affordable options. And companies do make legit affordable products
The Bushnell's I take off my Savages work pretty good on squirrel rigs.
Great job! I appreciate your time and putting this together for the lucky winner. Edited, I thought I was a new sub, but I've been subbed for a while 😂. Long day.....
That was a great video Ray. Just shows we don’t need top dollar to have some fun 👊🏼
Good video you explain what you are doing and why. And more importantly you know what you are doing. I cant say that for most youtube firearms expert.
Thank you John and thanks for watching.
Great series. It really is so much easier (cheaper too) than it was 15-20 years ago, heck even 10 years ago.
Freakin "A"!!!!! Absolutely awesome!
Hey Ray, thanks for sharing, this should get shooters interested, and it didn't take $5k
I'm impressed. Thank you for doing this.
That was awesome! Thank you so much for doing this! I have aspirations for long range shooting on a budget. This gives me massive motivation and hope! I'm very sure that I'll need more ammo. MUCH more. Lol!
Very impressive process! I have a Savage Axis, and besides the crappy trigger that I had to replace, it's a fine shooting rifle, shooting sub MOA.
Very Impressive Marksmanship 🎯 That’s all you for the most part . 🎯 Bravo on the demonstration of the budget equipment that can be utilized to achieve the results you demonstrated very well done Sir . Very impressive. 👏
Great video. Look forward to seeing who wins the set up
Congratulations! Good shooting! Thanks for putting this video out. Couldn’t help noticing that you were wearing a coat.
Thank you. I hate the cold anymore. It was a little chilly this morning .👍🏼
Excellent build to show you can get into the game for under $1K --
