I have been running an ongoing experiment to get more velocity out of a 10.5" 5.56 using heavy bullets. So far I have found that using 75gr bullets I can average over 2450 fps using TAC using a very safe load within the bounds of published data.
@@tyler6147 Wait till he finds out there are some of us who like to play with 10.5" 6.5 Grendel SBR, full fun-switch and supressed. LOL.... it may not make sense but it does make BOATLOADS of smiles. AND... it makes for a damn good door-kicking round, even if it IS expensive to play with it like that.
IMI 77 grain Razercore has chrono'd 2,740 feet per second average out of my Criterion Core series 13.9" + BCM headspaced bolt build, if anyone was interested in a whoopass barrel & ammo combination in a more general/adaptable fighting rifle size. It grouped the Razercore a best of 0.625" at 100 yards (indoors) with a Primary Arms SLx 1-8, which is obviously not ideal for a precise point of aim so it has a bit more potential than that. But that was the best group from the gun and also the most expensive ammo I tested in it. Lol. Shots were taken off sandbags on a bench. Trigger is a Geissele SSA. Upper is 100% off the shelf BCM components aside from the barrel and a Surefire SOCOM brake. Conditions the day I chrono'd it were 80 degrees, 50% humidity at around 150 feet above sea level. Other guns were tested that day (9mm handguns and another AR) and everything looked very normal, and the chronograph was brand new anyway. So. There didn't appear to be any technical issues.
Ray you said something important and I hope people caught it. Black Hills 77gr isn't the end all be all. Great round no doubt but recently I got a 16" ADM SPR and AAC 77gr grouped significantly better than the BH. I have another 18" SPR that was the exact opposite. Do your own testing and see what your barrel likes!
Mk262 will deliver .64 MOA at 300 meters from USAMU built match conditioned M16A4 and USAMU built SDMRs. I am a CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor and from my own POWs I can hold about a half MOA from Mk262, thus the bottom-line is there’s no point to evaluation of other rounds unless the priority is on economy.
I beg to differ. I have a lot of AAC, IMI, and BH Mk-262 Mod 1-C (more accurate than the military Mk-262). See my comment above about velocities, SD & ES. I do like the AAC, nice velocity from my 20-in, but the ES & SD are a bit lackluster.
@@charlesludwig9173I find the Mk-262 Mod 1 C to be a phenomenal shooter from my Geissele 16-in rifle out to my range’s limited distance of 400 yds. , but we make up for that by shooting MOA or slightly smaller size targets.
The ideal velocity from Mk262 is 2750 fps. This is what will be delivered from a 20 inch barrel . Now why is that ideal? It syncs with the Bullet Drop Compensation function of carry handle sight and MaTech BUIS, and it permits use of a field expedient MOA wind constant of 10 out to 500 meters. It also is velocity that syncs with TA-31F ACOG.
Holy Moly!!!!! Subscribed. Great shooting! I just ordered his 300blk 110gr. which should be delivered today. I put myself on the mailing list for this stuff, as well. Thanks for the video
"Let me just send this ammo that my rifle isnt zeroed for" Proceeds to ballpark a drop and slam 4 out of 5 at almost 600. Phenomenal as always. My favorite part of these is still watching the trace though!
Id love to hear the explination of how thia gets more velocity without increasing chamber pressure... That just seems like its not possible. This is the kind of inprovement we need for the 6.5 Grendel... aka my favorite AR caliber and my deer round of choice for the N.Idaho mountains.
Looks like youtube deleted my first comment but I was asking if you would be willing to test this ammo out of some shorter barrels like 12.5-14.5 and post the results? I'd really like to see how this ammo does out of those types of guns and I don't have a garmin to test it myself.
Ray, I have to say I really enjoyed watching you shot a 3 gun match. It's poetry in motion watching you in a big 3 gun match, but completely understand the dip in 3gun.....
out of my Noveske 18" SPR i was getting 2,777 fps at Sea Level with 77 grain IMI and they use the Sierra Match King bullet. For me, i get about half MOA and my screen icon is actually a 0.4MOA 5 shot group i shot with that pairing. I've hit a milk jug at 1,006 yards in 3 shots using an educated guess for my DOPE on the first shot and have hit a soda can at 750 yards in 4 shots from a mountain top shooting across a windy valley. The IMI 77 grain ammo has been more accurate for me at 1/2" than the Black Hills stuff which for me was around 3/4" or thereabouts but the IMI stuff was definitely more accurate for me without question out of both my Noveske SPR and my DD M4V11Pro.
That was good...like really good. Impressive ammo as that NAS3 tech must allow for more powder and higher pressure. If I'm doing distance with my 5.56, I know what ammo to favor. Thanks for the great review!
Hitting targets is nice but real world Designated Marksman Rifles need to put sufficient energy on at range to neutralize target, more then just marking paint. I'm of the opinion that even the 6MM ARC, 6.5 Grendel are while being useful, they are minimum at best.
I have matched black hills 77gr 5.56 velocity and accuracy with my hand load. It’s starline brass- (I anneal, trim, chamfer, debur every time, clean primer pockets) 23.6gr TAC CCI #41 primers 77gr smk I get 2780 FPS out of a 20” WOA SDMR barrel with single digit SD and average spread of 15 FPS. I get 2690 FPS out of a 16” WOA SPR barrel and got 3.8 SD and a spread of 11.3 just the other day. Both guns shoot sub moa consistently with that load, with best groups sub half moa. I haven’t needed more velocity than that but I’ll probably try the black arc stuff just to see how it shoots. I’d be interested to see if it is consistent lot to lot.

9:00 can’t talk about the group like you’re suggesting it’s better than the Mk-262 when you said you shot it quickly just to get the rounds down range. I’ll take the lower SD and ES over a marginal velocity gain as consistent velocities will facilitate greater accuracy. Oh, nice velocity you achieved with your rifle and the Mk-262. Box lists 2,750 from a 20-in barrel. My FN M16A4 clone averages 2,775 fps. Still, both are over advertised velocity so I take that as icing on the cake. If you want a fast 77, the AAC 77s were the fastest (I tested) at 2,810 fps. However, the SD and ES were a bit lackluster.
Could you test the Hiperfire Hipercomp Gen 2? There is only one RUclips video up and they comment that it has the best recoil reduction but they didn't like the concussion. It would be great to see another review.
