      Being one of the first shooters, he made it look easy, which made all of the other shooters look "bad" by comparison. The truth is, hitting a target over 5000 feet away is extremely difficult and the fact that he hit it twice in a row really IS quite impressive.

    I was excited to see the forum was Clinton House. In 2023 that reprobate Mike Sexton talked me into 1760 within 5 shots handling a factory-vanilla Sako S20 flying 6.5 PRC handloads, sighted through an Arken 24x. He treated us like Marine boot campers, and it worked! Seems like Team 'fueled by' Hornady may need some fresh meat. Haha! Great forum, keep it up.

    I’m enjoying watching this series and will continue to watch. I’ve been a bit surprised (probably shouldn’t be) to see some ungodly nice equipment and then some pretty unsound fundamentals. I was really cheering for Sandra and expected a lot after they said she was a Kahles shooter. While she wasn’t quite slapping the trigger, there was definitely no follow through. Some of the guys that couldn’t quite get a hit on target have grouped ridiculously well, and I know it’s very difficult to spot your own misses and correct for yourself under time constraints (especially in the rain). Regardless, great shooting and a very fun watch.

    • @SigmaBallistics
      @SigmaBallistics 4 месяца назад +3

      That’s mostly a myth, unless you are running the ragged edge of stability in the first place. The problem is the internet makes people think the creed is some magic cartridge. You cannot beat physics, large front surface area and heavy calibers will dominate beyond 1,000 everytime. A 6.5 anything has no business for any sort of serious work at a mile.

    • @Z33Garage
      @Z33Garage 4 месяца назад

      @@SigmaBallistics what is a myth? The bullet becoming unstable as it passed through the sound barrier as it slows down?? I have heard that heavier magnum rounds are effected less by this issue with lighter bullets.

    • @SigmaBallistics
      @SigmaBallistics 4 месяца назад +3

      @@Z33Garage it's a myth that most bullets will just become unstable and start tumbling upon transitioning into subsonic. This is rarely an issue, unless like I said, the bullet is very poorly stabilized in the first place.
      I doubt the issue with the 6.5's connecting to the mile target in this video was related to tumbling, just mostly lack of experience and a very poor choice for ELR.

    • @Z33Garage
      @Z33Garage 4 месяца назад +1

      @@SigmaBallistics ahh ok fair. I have heard from several RUclips LR guys that generally you want to stay within the sonic flight of the bullet for best effect. I agree the 6.5creedmor is probably not the best choice for a round for a mile compared to a magnum cartridge.

    • @SigmaBallistics
      @SigmaBallistics 4 месяца назад +2

      @@Z33Garage ideally you want to stay above mach 1.2, below that is when a little bit of transonic unpredictability occurs with ballistics solvers. Only workaround is a custom drag profile from a radar or some tweaking with DSF factor in the solver.....but with ELR you have no choice but to deal with it. Best workaround that we know of is a tried and true projectile that is known to transition well, and to up the stability to around an sg of around 2 (even up to 2.5-3 with solids).
      but yeah, the biggest thing in ELR is being able to spot your misses, this where the big 375-416 caliber projectiles really shine, they produce so much more splash than a 30 cal or even a 338 for that matter. the difference is massive. if you can't see where you last impacted you are just pissing in the wind.

    Crosswinds are a bugaboo - not only does a crosswind at any point on the flight path deflect the bullet, but if the crosswind is consistent, it continues accelerating the bullet laterally the longer the bullet flight, so that the dispersion grows both angularly and dynamically with distance, in a horizontal arc. Hats off to long-range shooters.

    Should do a series where people can come in and pick from a selection of rifles, then compete. NOT bring their own. There are a lot of people that can shoot, but do not have access to the tools. I was top shot in my company in the Army, and would love to try some long distance target practice, but I can not afford to buy a rifle of that quality.

I've seen a motivated Marine or two hit a mile with a out of the box Howa M1500 Hogue 7MM PRC 24" bolt-action and a Arken riflescope and Amazon Harris bipod knockoff all in for less then 1000, 900 when on sale.

      @@ChainsawFPV Nice story, when I was in Fallujah, Sangin and Ramadi, the only thing army did for me was blue on blue cause your infantry would shoot first and verify later. Sometimes we would find lost serialized gear like M-4s and NVGs the army would lose. Your officers loved coming to get them from us. In Ramadi after a few Marines took the city, we handed it over to the army only for the army to lose it , So once again a few Marines assisting CIA, Task Force Green , Nightstalkers and DEVGRU had to take it again. Long story short I remembered calling the navy and Air Force well before the conventional army forces. Usually army dogs where in the rear with the gear trying to dick down the married female soldiers, and eating McDonalds and getting fat. That's the army most doorkickers in my beloved corps know.
      As far as the rifle I was talking about, you sure are army, only a solider would think they need a 7-15k set up for a mile long shot. Must be nice having logistics. As for Marines, we adapt.

      @@ChainsawFPV As someone who owns guns that cost 100-20,0000 dollars my point was even if you're on a budget, with the right training and self discipline, you can spend 900-1000 dollars on a budget setup, that while not as neat as FN Ballista or Barrett MRAD with a Night Force scope, it can give you results at 1 mile because I, and others have done it using factory ELD ammo. You just dismissed it, thinking you need crazy setups which you mentioned twice now which speaks to how ill-informed and lack of formal training you have on the subject.
      If I'm full of myself what does that make you? Never in 20 years the USMC have the words, "I saved ..." , ever come out my mouth. My pretty sure the word "I" is illegal in the world I come from. Carry on soilder.
