  • The customer wanted to add the Lowrance Fish Reveal sidescan transducer and Active Target 2 to his stern. This combination creates an effective set of tools to quickly locate fish near and far from the boat as he idles around seaching. The Fish Reveal sidescan capabilty requires the S3100 Sonar module. We made a minor modification to the Vexus console to accomodate the S3100 Sonar module and the Active Target 2 module. We also added the ability to turn on/off each module depending on his current usage. To make everything work well, the Sync capability was enabled between the modules and the HDS Pro 12 unit. We'll also show how we mounted the transducers on the stern. And the existing transducer mounting left us scratching our head wondering why/how would anyone do it that way.

    Hi Gary,
    I'm running an Airmar 275 LHW transducer, that has two cables low and high wide going through the s3100 and then I run the 3 in 1 transducer directly to my Lowrance elite fs9...so the s3100 is running the Airmar, do I need to run the ping sync?

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  22 дня назад

      Hi, if you have the Airmar connected on both channels of the S3100 module and there is no transducer attached directly to the Elite FS unit then you do not need to hook up the sync line. But since you have a 3-in-1 on the Elite FS then if it supported sync then yes you would connect it. But the only unit that currently supports the sync function is the Pro unit. You will see some noise on the Elite. I would disable the Sonar transducer on the Elite FS since the Airmar will give you the sonar. You may see some noise on the side scan but it will still be readable. (little blips but they are regular and you can train your eyes to ignore them.)
      Thanks for watching the video(s).

    Great video Gary !! Does Lowrance offer a flush mount for the new HD 3 in 1 transducer ? I can’t find one anywhere and I’d like to keep the mount in the same place as my 2 in 1

      Not that I know of. The old flush mount could be modified to fit the new transducer. The drill pattern is slightly different.

    So your active target is not movable? Wouldn't it be more useful if you could look left or right without having to swing the boat around?

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  10 месяцев назад

      The transom mount only allows fore/aft movement. For the type of fishing that the customer does, this mount works well. He is mostly on the trolling motor fishing. The fish reveal sidescan really minimizes the need to pan the AT transducer. For other customers and usages, I agree that a moveable mount would work better.

    Thank you for your video! Can you please make another video of how the Fish Reveal looks in use? I use the HDS10 Pro myself with the S3100 module and the HD-H/W transducer...all updates have been installed. Sidescan Color 9 and Fish Reveal Color 1. Unfortunately, I have permanent yellow lines left and right on the bottom line. In the sidescan I see fish almost exclusively under the boat, very rarely there is a small luminous (Fish?!) line above the bottom. Maybe I have the wrong transducer... I've heard the H/W transducer is for deep water but how deep is that deep water? I don't normally fish deeper than 35 feet. Might the M/H transducer have been a better choice? Sorry for the long text but nobody in Germany can help me because there are still too few users. Best regards Jens

      Hi Jens, you're welcome. I'm glad that you found it useful. And you read my mind. I have scheduled with the owner of the Vexus to do some on-the-water video of the fish reveal this week (on the St Lawrence river). Hopefully I'll be able to have the video done in a couple of weeks. I also have some additional videos of on-the-water usage of some the installations as well. I will make sure to use your color palettes for some of the testing.
      Usually, for Lowrance deep water is beyond 100 feet (30 meters). I put the M/H version on the Vexus and will installing the same one on my boat when I get a chance. Have you tried different frequencies to see if the fish show better on the sides?

      @jenss.1136 10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your answer . Unfortunately, I have the yellow lines in both frequencies on the bottom line in the sidescan. This makes fish identification near this line almost impossible. Then I probably bought the wrong transducer. 🙄 I'm very curious how well the Fish Reveal works on your boat. You'll probably be the first on RUclips to upload a real-life S3100 video. 😎 Best regards

      Hi, do you also have the yellow line on your downscan as well? If so, then there may be a transducer offset setting somewhere to compensate. I'll look when we do the video. I have to get that Vexus dialed in so I'll check and record all the settings.

      @@garrywoodruff960 Thanks for your support! The image in the downscan is perfect and without the yellow line, just as I know it from my old HDS Live. My dealer said that there was also this yellow line in the downscan at the very beginning of the fish reveal on HDS-live, which was then removed with an update. Then I'll wait and see what comes out of your test on the water. Best regards Jens

      Hi Jens, I was doing some testing today (sync capability) so I looked at the side imaging. I see the same yellow lines (right at the depth level) on my side imaging with the standard 3-in-1 transducer. (HDS Pro 12, 3-in-1 AI (not HD), and shoot through sonar in hull) So, I suspect those lines are just normal for side imaging, What I would do is run a split screen -- side imaging (full width, half height), down imaging (half width, half height), and sonar (half width, half height). That will give you the best images. You'll be able to see in detail the fish below and use the Fish Reveal on the side imaging for fish away from the boat.
      When I get back home then I will look at older side imaging screenshots to see if the yellow line was always there or just added in the 23.3 upgrade. But I think that the split screen is the best option for you.

    Why do you need the yellow wire on the sync bus? Wouldn't it work without the yellow wire?

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  9 месяцев назад +1

      The yellow wire comes from the HDS Pro unit. On the Pro, you can control the function of the yellow wire. It can be either power control or sync. The Pro yellow wire needs to be connect to the sync bus if it has or may have a transducer directly connected. In the case of the installation shown, connecting the HDS Pro yellow does not have any affect since the HD transducer is connected to the S3100 module and not to the unit. However, if at some point the customer desires to add an in-hull or additional sidescan transducer then nothing else will need to change.
      On my boat where I have transducers connected directly to the my units, the yellow is needed to set up sync between my modules (S3100, AT2).
      Thanks for the question and watching the video.

      @@garrywoodruff960 I discussed the idea of a sync bus with Lowrance and they did not recommend it for the AT2 transducer. I am sure you tested your setup. So my question is why would Lowrance tell me not to use a sync bus? Your input is appreciated. This was Lowrance Case CA10972775

      Hi, I have my AT2 (blue) and one of the HDS Pros (yellow) hooked together. There is a significant noise reduction when the sync is turned on that unit. (I'm working on the video now, I just need a few more screen recordings). Honestly, I don't know why they would tell you that. It would really depend on who you talked to and their actual knowledge level. I also have the same connections on my console, except I have a S3100 module and another HDS Pro connected together. I'll be testing that soon.
      The sync on the AT2 was initially for running 2 AT2s together, perhaps that is why they told you what they did. All I can say is that turning on the sync capability on the HDS Pro DOES significantly transducer interference on both the AT2 and the HDS Pro using a 3-in-1 nosecone.

      I just put up the sync video showing the effect on the AT2 screen. I'll be doing another one showing the effect on the Pro unit as well as the 3100 at the console. Hopefully that will be done soon.

    Garry, hello. Can you tell me how to solve the problem. I have hds live 12 and hds live 9. An active imaging 3 in 1 sensor is connected to hds live 12. Active target sensor is connected to hds live 9. Both devices are connected by ethernet wire. When the active target sensor is immersed in water, noise appears on the side scan. As soon as the sensor is pulled out, the interference stops. To check if there are any electronic pickups from the wires, I pulled out the cable to the 3 in 1 sensor. But this did not solve the problem. I also connected the active target block to another battery, but this also did not work. Tell me, what could be the problem? Thank you

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  10 месяцев назад

      The noise that you are seeing is acoustic noise from the pinging of the transducers and overlapping return signals. Where are the transducers mounted? What frequency are you running for the 3-in-1? (They default to 800kHz, try 455kHz and see if that helps). I'd have to look to see if the sync signal is supported on the Live units. If so, then connect the Yellow wire from the 12 (which has the 3-in-1) to the Blue wire on the AT module. And then turn on the sync setting on the 12.
      Also, have you connected the bonding (ground) wire from the case to the negative of the battery? I always install that wire to minimize noise as well.
      I have a 3-in-1 nosecone, and I haven't seen issues with the AT transducer causing noise issues. I have however seen some noise lines on downscan (and probably on the sidescan as well) that were not there before the 23.3 .26 update.

    • @user-qj2qy7oh9q
      @user-qj2qy7oh9q 10 месяцев назад

      @@garrywoodruff960 I use 800 kHz, at 455 kHz the interference is less noticeable, but the problem remains. The 3 in 1 transducer is on the transom, I lower the AT sensor from the side 7 feet from the 3 in 1 sensor. I tried to lower it on the bow, the noise does not go away. I also connect the ground wire to the negative of the battery. I also disconnected, connected to the hull of the boat, this also does not work. Last season, all the equipment was on another boat. Before installing on another boat, I updated the device to 23.3. 26. There may be a reason for the update.

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  10 месяцев назад

      I think that the noise filtering algorithm(s) must have changed in the update, since I also see noise in downscan that I've never seen before. Is the AT also updated to the 23.3 .25 update? (there was not a .26 for the AT module).
      Since I don't have a Live unit, I don't have a way to check for you. So, can you go to the System Settings panel, scroll it up and see if there is an option for "Power control...". If there is then I would set the unit that has the 3-in-1 connected to Sync. And then connect it's Yellow wire on the power cord to the Blue wire on the AT module's power cord. I'm not sure if the AT1 module supports sync, but the update does. So that might be worth a try.
      It might be worth reverting back to the latest update prior to 23.3 (I think that was 22.2)? That should help.
      I will be on my boat for the next week, I will see if I can find a way to minimize the noise. If so, then I will let you know. I plan on testing the sync between the AT2 and the 3-in-1 on the trolling motor.

      That's a bummer. I will see if I can find the right settings without using the sync capability. I'll let you know as soon as I can get on the water and test.
      Otherwise you might want to revert back to the 22.2 update as it didn't seem to have that issue.
