I am a Nigerian and I grew up on Mama Miriam Makeba. My late Dad and I were huge fans. As a singer, I learnt the art of lead and backup singing from listening to her music. She was phenomenal!
I am sure most Nigerians of my generation knew Mama Makeba and other freedom singers from SA. We could sing all the songs with the emotion and fire it conveyed! Those were the days Africa banded together
I love this song so much. I can listen to it on repeat for days. The strange sensation enjoying a devastating and sad story told with such beauty. Tracy Chapman has that same skill.
This type of music must be given air play very often because that's where our history as a nation and our future is. We are the nation of peace and our believe rely in music.
Pretty sure this is from a Paul Simon concert in SA. Either way, Mama Africa is in full force here. The clarity in her voice is simply amazing. And what a performance by the band!
During the dark days😢😢😢✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼 "There was a full moon in the Golden City (Joburg) knocking at the door was a man (Police) without pity accusing everyone of conspiracy. 💔💔💔
Ever since I was a teen I heard of Miriam Makeba and loved her songs and her activities so much. So good to hear her on you tube. God Bless! Her family and dear friends and fans.❤️☝️💕😍
The Lyrics 😭😭😭 "killing our Nation without any publicity" Woman who spent years in exile, at some point she couldn't come back to bury her mother because of the evil regime of apartheid. During the dark days
No Miriam did in fact buried her daughter bongie in guinea cornakry. Its her mother whom she was not able to bury because the apartheid government revoked her passport in the early 60s
Et pourquoi rire de la mort de ces pauvres enfants à qui on a interdit de parler leur langue maternelle ? 🙄😒👶 Please translate with Google (the language is French)
1976 - Soweto - Apparently 15000 school children a protest march. 575 were killed and over 2000 injured. Bastards. And people wonder why Mugabe is not a nice forgivable person like Mandela was. Context. Perspective. Ignorance. History. Shit is more complicated then the average judgemental person thinks.
I'm a Nigerian but at 11 years old I could sing every line of this song with all the emotions potrayed here. 💜
I love you already for that.
Swears
