Today marks the 11th anniversary of the passing of QUEEN MIRIAM MAKEBA!
May her spirit Rise in Power and Rest in Glory! She was one of South Africa's greatest activist, vocalist, songwriter, actress, United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and jazz artist, and will always be known as MAMA AFRICA!🇿🇦
"“The conqueror writes history, they came, they conquered & they write. You don’t expect the people who came to invade us to tell the truth about us.”
"I'm not a political singer” - I don't know what the word means. People think I consciously decided to tell the world what was happening in South Africa. No! I was singing about my life, and in South Africa we always sang about what was happening to us - especially the things that hurt us."
    PLEASE TAKE A LISTEN!

she speaks so much truth! and the problem is still the same.
i am white but deeply care about racism and any injustice, and i have to say that most people see me as a pain in the butt, when i talk about these issues. i most of the time get "why do you care, you are not black/muslim(or whatever).." or rolling eyes.. many people also like to argue and say "it's not an issue anymore, we are over this", these are usually the people who at one point or another are racist themselves.

She came from the most humble beginnings imaginable, She persevered and she overcame countless obstacles in her way.
However she did not just enjoy the life that her great talent afforded; instead she used her voice and worked to her dying day* to improve the lives of others.

The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness.
It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

im white...she´s 95% right in what she said...she was beautiful person and an extraordinary singer and composer. I meet her only today, searching for pata pata and i stay 2 hours with her, hearing. There is also music discrimination,,,only rock, pop, rap, or whatever,,is important. This african music is absolutly beautiful,,and also i never heard no one femal voice from soul , jazz or blues that get her level. Thank you

Wow!!!! If only the powers that be in South Africa can show these kind of footages like Steve Biko interviews, "Come Back, Africa" as well as many others of similar nature. You know it took me a lot of pastime research for me to bhe able to dispel the myth about Brazilian racial harmony and yet in a manner of seconds Mama just broke it down

This is true today! As it was in 1969. The day people of African origins no longer allow Europeans to define their reality, shall be the day! We shall start waking up from their Spells, that have been crafted so well!
