If the Tokens never make that hit song then so many people would never have been lucky enough to hear Solomon Linda Mbube and would probably never hear this version either. That being said Soloman Linda should have been credited and compensated for the Tokens version since its original release. But unfortunately the Record Industry at the time didn't agree, and they were wrong for that.

But nowadays there are many aspiring artists practicing their craft with passion and creativity. They might not be on the radio, but they definitely exist. What you call Jazz is an African style of music, Sir. Miriam Makeba sang these traditional songs, taught to her by her grandmother and then her mother from childhood. She perfectly articulated them to fit the "Jazz" mold when she was in the West.
Thanks to my parents, I heard of Miriam Makeda in the mid 1960s. I remember it was a big sensation when she burst onto the music scene. Some of my moms friends, started dressing like her. Lovely performer, great voice. I think most of her albums are out of print, she had released a great album, around 1969 or 70, one of my friends brother had it, some real kool songs and great work. Would love to find it. (Peace).
