Yes and yes!!🎉
Yes I do, listening from Germany... for me it s amazing wonderful, I m deeply impressed :) :)
Yes I am
June 2024, who’s here 😍
Je l'ai écouté pour la 1ere fois dans les campus a Alger en 1975 ou elle était beaucoup aimé par les algériens et cette affection dure encore
Back when I studied for my BA in social science my teacher brought us all out to the piano in the hallway to play and sing this song. He told us it was a famous African lullaby (obviously just bullshitting us) and we started to butcher this song - none of us knew how to pronounce any of words. We did, however, nail the melody.
As we were singing we heard someone swing open the main door downstairs and walk down another set of stairs to the basement when the footsteps suddenly stopped. Turned around. And made their way to the floor we were on. The heads of two black exchange students, a young man and a girl, came in sight looking super increadulous at us until they realized it was a music lesson. At the point they started to dance and move and clap in ways I cannot even describe like they truely appreciated our pathetic attempt at swahili.
It was just the coolest moment. I'll never forget it.
My man is crazy mzungu of Mririam makeba, calls her his girlfriend, give thumbs up who is listening to Miriam Makeba in 2023❤
My husband and I used to hear this song when I was pregnant with my daughter, we named her Malaika ❤️
Angel, she must be beautiful litu girl
Wow.. My wife just suggested we should name our girl Malaika.
I am from the Hausa tribe in Nigeria and in native language Malaika means Angel.
In my native language Malaika means Angel. I am Hausa form Nigeria.
@@jamilaibrahim8370 It's Swahili meaning angel and the song is in Swahili although the singer is South African.
My mother used to sing this song to me as a child, now as a father of two girls I find myself singing them this song. The power of Mamma Africa can make everything better.
Abdoul Sanogo yeah Mother of all races, mama Africa, its just a fact....
Beautiful :)
Malaaaikaaaa...
unforgettable
The mother of humankind
"my angel I love you. I'm devastated I don't have wealth, but I'd have married you my angel." Basic translation of what she's singing. I like how she sings it emotionally, like she means every word. Glad she did it even though Swahili is a foreign language to her.
Thank you. I am South African and was asking myself what language it is that she is singing in.

The most beautiful Lady of Africa, I am still proud of her life & Thanks God on the way she presents herself to the global media Ambassador for Africa.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Swahili is rapidly growing. Swahili for Africa.

I'm Afro-American and I just learned about Miriam Makeba today. She's beautiful, graceful, and from my understanding, a cultural icon in her homeland of South Africa. Respect to this Queen. 👑✊🏾❤️
Beloved nickname is Mama Africa. This song was sung in another African language that is NOT native of her original south African roots. She nailed the kiswahili
I'm glad you did! I'm white and listen to her for many many years!
Boney M sung it as well from your Land. You can also listen to that, it is Swahili the Language spoken in East and Central Africa.
The other info. is She is late MHSRIP, this performance was way back in 1969.
*..i'm not even black - i guess i could "pass" for white, but i don't care - what i dó remember ( and i can go back quite far ) is me 3?4 yrs old, sitting on the floor of a small house, in front of a Húge speaker box, áll day / évery day, Listening to her... Coz i wanted to sing the click-song even bétter than her :-) I could!! { not so well anymore } the other thing i remember is having spiritual thoughts & feelings - thát young - that i Absolutely did Nót wanna share with Anyone ... i Really don't know why...*
I am proud that she sings the song which originate in my home country with our tongue , Kiswahili. All love from Tanzania 🇹🇿. Hala kiswahili
Nakubali !!
It originated from KENYA not TZ. Thank you.

2024 we still here listening and learning from the legend
Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela created awareness of apartheid at a time when most South Africans of African descent were unable to travel abroad. She is an icon and hero to all Africans! May her soul rest peacefully! 🙏🏽😊
Am white. Am so sad because what white people did. Im on my knees. There cannot be any forgiveness. All you read this: im devastated.
So am I the only one who cry when listening to this beautiful song?😭
Anyone reading this comment after Corona Virus, I love you❤😭
No. Someone who loved me one sang this to me and I believe it was grand father never forget it because it made me feel love still

I was in kenya for 3 years with family. Enjoyed in full with moving in a country of natural beauty and simple and good people. They are fond of music . I like Swahili music. Their national anthem is the best in content and I like it .
The song Maliika is one which I hear even now.
Jambo.
Man, she was so beautiful....feel like everything's alright with the world whenever I listen to this...
Look at her true beauty, hear her sweet angel voice. I feel like all is right with the world with her music.

I'm was born in 62 and am 62, too.
This song is so soothing to the soul and Ms. Miriam's voice is simply amazing.
I am so glad that I came here by accident.
❤❤❤
I was also born in 1962 and turned 62 years old yesterday 🎉 🎂. I, too, love this song because it reminds me of my parents. They have both passed away. I am a proud South African and met Mama Mirriam Makeba on several occasions. In fact, I was assigned to assist with her funeral arrangements on an official basis. I just thought that I should share that with this circle of RUclips age mates 😊❤ 🇿🇦
Сегодня, в день рождения Мириам, слушаю её потрясающую композицию.
Какая спокойная мелодия и какой завораживающий голос❤
Apprenez moi le Russe😅
On this international women's day, I chose to listen to songs from women who shaped our lives both artistically, socially, intellectually, and economically.
Was lucky enough to see her in concert at Festac 1977 in Lagos, Nigeria. Truly amazing. Sat on front row and was mesmerized by her beautiful voice and charisma. Such a joy in my life.
Just a while guy who appreciates good music. Music has no color.
You were at FESTAC '77?!? How amazing. That's like the Woodstock of Nigeria. Are you Nigerian? How was the event?
@@DamaniDanDadar I'm English but was living in Lagos at the time. I was very aware of the importance of Festac. Also used to go to Fela Ransome Kuti's 'republic' for amazing music nights! Great time to have been in Nigeria! (Sadly, was not at Woodstock!!)
Can never be tired of this piece
She was decades ahead of all times! Professional, talented, intellectual, bright and inspiring!!!!
This song is just like the flow of a river... It bring you back the memories of the true beauty of Africa and it people... Thanks you mama Myriam makeba African icon
Its like Neria by Oliver Mtukudzi for me, brings that sense of genuine identity for me
True talent... No autotune.. True soul.. African queen
Thank you Miriam!
I am from RO
I met her in Dar es salaam Tanzania...when I was 6 years old...she took refuge in Tanganyika as it was then called...
Before she became an international star...
I then went to see her concert in London...which was fantastic...
Mama Africa....
She will always have a special place in my heart...
My father and mother loved her...very much.
In fact every Tanzanian that I've met loves her...
I imagine the whole of Africa loving her also...
We must educate all our children to know about her and Hugh Masekela...who sacrificed a lot to fight against the racists...
Aluta continua 🌍🙏🏽
This is "Mother Africa" at her best and her voice will always be immortal!! imo!❤🤗❤🤗❤🤗❤
Her Swahili pronunciation is just perfect......Safi sana.

What a beautiful voice! 😄😄👍👍
C'est une jolie chanson. Elle est superbe cette grande dame.
I remember Miriam singing the click song, but I haven't heard this son. The melody and her singing are beautiful. She is a gorgeous looking woman.
I was born in India but had lots of African friends. My friend from Sudan introduced me to this song. I love the words, tune, and melody of this song. Music has no boundaries as air and birds do not recognize any limitations. Love African music and culture. Proud to have so many African friends. Traveled the world but still have to land in the African continent. We are all one.
There's an Indian version of this song: "Gawa hai, chand tare gawa hai.."
Here for her in 2021. When I was 18, someone brought a tape to school and I listened to it, fell in love. Now I m 38 years older. My taste wasn t that bad when I was young, must admit. She s a real Queen, may she sing in Heaven, this wonderful woman. From Germany to the World 🇩🇪 🌍 ☮️

In Kenya Mama Africa sang Malaika . A heroine forever!
I named my cat after this song. I was ones a volonteer in Tanzania and heared it then and the song was written in my touristbook. I loved the Tanzanian language, even though I just understand few words. But I understand the word Malaika and my cat is what it means, an angel
Swahili is the name of the language of course. The name was passed away for a momemt.

We used to sing this song in our school in Goa India. Many Goans went to East Africa back in the day and worked for the sultan of Oman. so many spoke Swahili and when they came back to Goa I am sure they sang this song and it went viral from there.
