  • Sharing this excellent documentary on Miriam Makeba, made in 1981 during the last years of Pres. Sékou Touré. Featuring Papa Kouyaté. Bongi Makeba and the Quintette Guinéenne. The documentary also has scenes from daily life in downtown Conakry and along the Corniche du Sud, plus of her villa in Dalaba in the Fouta Djallon. The documentary also presents scenes from South Africa which highlight the horrors of apartheid, with extracts from “Come back, Africa”, directed by Lionel Rogosin in 1959, with Miriam singing. A wonderful documentary, with Miriam singing a variety of songs and giving insights into her many years in Guinea and her life on the world stage.

uMam Mirim was just not a musician she was a HEALER extra ordinaire, an intellectual, revolutionary, a warrior Queen, a feminist and a fashionista (trend setter) par excellence.

Everytime l watch videos of Mama Miriam Makeba, may God bless and rest her soul, l shed tears.
I cry for Africa, her homeland she loved so dearly.
Mama Makeba even sang a song..." Africa is where my heart belongs".
She loved Africa with all her efforts, purpose and intent.
In this video, l could see the plight of a woman, an African woman for that matter, who is passionate about the livelihood and wellbeing of all Africans.
Mama Miriam Makeba, was a great Pan African, a multi lingual, a multi talented and one who yearned for the African dream for the betterment of the whole Africa.
No African, especially a woman should have suffered and stripped of her dignity, as what Mama Miriam Makeba, Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela , and many unsung heroines across the Motherland and in diaspora endured.
There is nothing more painful than suffering and being subjugated in your own homeland.
The oppressors will have a lot to answer for, and the time of change of tide has arrived.
Their generation and offsprings will feel all that our African ancestors endured.
I find solace in the knowledge that the great work that Mama Miriam Makeba left behind, is currently being carried forward by other African women, the likes of Dr. Arikana Chiwombori, Dr. Naledi Pandor, and many more great women of substance all across Africa and beyond.
    Viva African women, Viva !
    May God bless Africa.
    Mungu ibariki Africa
    Chauta dalitsani Africa
    Nkosi sikelela i Africa !
