T-Mobile - you should do more of these kinds of videos. This saved me from having to call and waste someone's time (and mine) in your call center to get my 2.4 Ghz set up, which isn't covered at all in the setup that the gateway comes with. It also gives me a much better understanding of some things so I won't have to call the tech support in the future. There are a lot of us out here who are "semi-techy" and just need some clear instructions. Video is a great way to do that.

I was the first to get Tmobile Home Internet in my newer subdivision that WAS entirely at the mercy of Spectrum (100mbps plan) for $105/mo. It was a spotty garbage feed with routine down time. I don't care that it was just for minutes.
In over 13 months since switching to THI, we've saved $55x13=715 real dollars, with speeds that routinely average 2+X the speed of the old.
Of course, I checked and double checked with my local Tmobile store to confirm my research/findings that their internet tower that would serve our location is almost directly behind and above our house.
We've been set. Big middle finger to Spectrum and their bull-O-nee monopoly they were running until T-Mobile changed the game. Again.
    Thanks T-Mo!

I may do this for our cameras and other "smart home" devices, but ... we have a large, 3-level home on a heavily wooded lot. As suggested by TMobile, we put our router on the top floor near a window on the southeast corner. At any given time during the day, there are at a minimum, 1 TV (sometimes 2), 2 desktop computers, and 2 phones connected. We have minor "hiccups" of service and of course, it happens mostly during the 4:30-6:30 pm timeframe, but overall, I'm really happy with TMobile. For the price, it works well for us!

    Hey Dezz,
Sounds wonderful. Unfortunately your only talking about when the Home Internet is receiving excellent signal strength. The T-Mobile app assists in identifying the best signal location! My best signal location is one (1) bar. So tell me how do I establish my maximum or best service with this scenario? I pay the same price as everyone else. Why doesn’t TMobile install enough towers to serve customers it’s providing service to? Shouldn’t that be a requirement of service?

Folks, there are outdoor cellular boosters that do indeed work. You may not have access to run an antenna at your location so this won't apply to you. But for me, I'm in a remote part of New Hampshire with the TMobile 5G network with a cellular booster. It went from 2 bars to 4-5 bars and it cost about $120 on Ebay. It was very easy to install and handles the different cellular bands. Hope this helps you.

I researched the source tower and found the "ideal" tower not as good as the tower further away. Lucky for me that same window more or less pointed Chicago where the tv signals eminates from. I've never had a problem with any of my devises anytime of the day or night. The worst speeds are, at least, 5 times better than what i had with Xfinity middle tier cable internet. I'm also paying 30 dollars a month less. It seems the automatic switching between the 2 frequencies works very well! It's been over a year with no degradation.

We've had loads of trouble with some devices connecting to our relatively new T-Mobile Home Internet--- even after being on the phone with 3-4 T-Mobile technical support folks. The tech split our bands for us, but that hasn't been ideal either. Chromecast is a problem as is my printer. Sometimes my printer will work (apparently it prefers the 2.4). And sometimes it won't. I've reset the wifi several times. Sometimes that will do it, but not this last time. So I can't use my printer. This is NOT GOOD. And the Chromecast issue is driving my husband nuts. Our speeds were much slower with our previous Internet provider. And the cost was twice as much. I love T-Mobile. I just want it to work for me! We've been T-Mobile cell phone customers for years. But I need my printer!!! Any advice?

Well T-mobile needs to seriously listen to is customers and work with them like other ISPs when it comes to equipment. My signal is weak all the time. T-mobile now has a device that you can add an antenna but they are not willing give them up. Rather they will make you stay or cancel your current plan and re-sign up for it. I mean if they want to keep customers they should consider providing proper equipment. I got an old gateway and that’s what I’ll be sticking with because they wont do any trade in for an equipment that i can add an antenna. Is worth the price but the experience getting the proper equipment sucks. I don’t think T-mobile is ready for home internet. Period.

I am going through the exact same problem! They sent a new router, and it was the same one that I already had, even after they told me that I needed the one that I could connect an antenna too.... I am so livid about it! I need to call them again, but, after being routed to 50-billion people, and hours on the phone, I just have kept dealing with my poor signal 😫

Great video....but it didn't work. Created both 5 and 2.4 GB networks just fine but could not connect to two remote PC's via wifi afterword. The PC's would connect to the gateway just fine but not to either 5 or 2.4 network. Troubleshooter couldn't find the problem (that's not news) nor could knocking everything down and creating the networks from scratch work or reading a big bunch of online documentation. Finally gave up and just use the gateway now. The only devices that do not work with the gateway are a couple of Daikin wifi thermostats. Supposedly they connect on 2.4 only (and they do show up on the connect screen) but they will not connect. The 5GB freq does not show up on the thermo's at all.

As previously noted by others ... allow us to turn off the wifi. Most people have mesh networks at home now and don't need wifi from this modem. Turning off the wifi would allow the modem to operate cooler and more efficiently. There are hacks available but it really should be built into the software just like every other modem out there ... and tech support provided no support for this last time I called.

So I have xfinity isp, it was well suited for my situtation but over time I overloaded the network and things got sketchy. My wife works from and needs a strong (fast) internet. Fortunately, most people are unaware but the newest router modems from Xfinity have MOCA (Multimedia Over CAble) built in and buying an adapter for her computer gives her faster speed than ethernet. All my Alexa devices are on the 2.4 network, a Whole Bunch of light bulbs, echo dots, thermostat, and ceiling fans, etc. I installed a new security system and my brother recommended using the T-Mobile ISP. So I added the T-Mobile for my security system and because my house is 2 story with a detached garage I got 2 of their wifi extenders. I had to do a little moving around to get the signal to every thing but all my motion sensors, cameras, doorbell, door and window sensors, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external sirens are working. My hundred plus year old house is truly a "smart home" . T-Mobile is the best. I know this post is lengthy but I hope it helps someone. 😊

I have changed routers 2x's, been on the phone with Customer Service for 45-60 mins 5x's this month alone. Customer Service gets the worst end of the deal. It is so frustrating with the lagging. Happens at peak times, 4:00pm and 7:00am. T-Mobile should make the routers better for distance or fix towers. Also, I have spoken to Customer Service and no one mentioned this default suggestion. T-Mobile please do something.

This did not work for me or my camera. First off the app, even with "save my password" won't let me log in. The first time I had to reset my T-Mobile router and use the LONG password on the back of the router. I logged in and changed my password back. Then I did exactly how you showed. I picked the 2.5ghz and changed the name to Privite-2Ghz, set my password and the NEXT button was greyed out. Then I set my network just to run on 2.4GHz and my camera still can't connect. So I set myself back to 5GHz and logged myself out of the app on my phone. I went to log back in. I am set to "see my password", it's typed in exactly as I saved it. It doesn't recognize my password again. I am so frustrated right now! I'm going to have to find help from T-Mobile to do this and figure out why it won't let me login.

I put my box in my bedroom next to my TV at first and bounced between good and excellent. Then, I put it next to my front window in my living room. It's been excellent since. Even though i was having issues a cpl days later but it was the sim, Changed that, then they were doing tower maintenance AGAIN. They do maintenance in my area at least a cpl days a week it seems but the whole time, I always had excellent connection. Now, cellphone is a different story. Took 3-4 months if not longer to actually get acceptable service and still have issues. Got tmobile phones thinking it'd help but didn't and got screwed on the deal with the trade in also because it was started over the phone and finished in store so in store didn't agree with the trade in. They don't work together at all!

Tmobile is great, but their home internet product is their weakest as far as support. I got their older hardware...and it's been impossible working with their support team (who is not North American based - hence language is a real issue) to get the updated hardware they show in all their ads, videos, and in every household I know. Is there any early adapters that have the "cylinder" router? Do you have issues with that hardware?
