I tore my meniscus at age 48 in the Lotus pose. These people assume a high level of flexibility. People in my class could fold their legs into Lotus while in Headstands! I had never been able to do the Lotus, but was in a intensive training course and could finally do the pose. I absolutely LOVED it. I was doing it regularly for the better part of a year. But it was always a struggle to get into the pose, I had to use my arms to bring me feet into position. So one night, I had my left leg in half Lotus and was using my arms to bring the right leg over into full Lotus when...KRrrrrrrkkkk! Something popped in my left (bent) knee. It didn't really hurt, but when I straightened the leg I could feel bone rubbing on bone. Long story short, I had surgery 2 weeks later for 2 'bucket handle' meniscus tears. It's been 9.5 years and I don't have much trouble with it, but I definitely don't want to risk further injury by trying it again. So I practice Aparigraha and just let it go. So the bottom line is, this pose is not considered a higher-level pose for nothing. I would advise you to use extreme caution. And don't start doing it at 48 either:).
Sthiram sukham asanam
Thanks, well put... I feel like if I continue down this road that’s what’s going to happen. Gonna slow my roll a bit!!!
Yeah I have meniscus injury both knees. MCL tears in my left knee. ACL tears in my right. I've had knee surgery and slowly working upto lotus. Its mainly hard on my hips though. Knees feel ok
Oh shoot I’m so sorry, thanks for sharing this
I’m 54 and working on it. So glad I read your comment. So sorry that happened to you. Thanks for the heads up. Feeling wary now.
The teacher explains at the beginning the most critical areas where flexibility is needed for this pose. Ankle, knee, and hip flexibility. The three 'warm up' exercises are VERY important to practice consistently. I am a westerner and 71 years old. This video is extremely helpful and I anticipate many months of practice. Don't rush it!
Thank you so much 🙏😊
i am 75, have been sitting in meditation half lotus regularly for 40 years. decided as a present to myself (I expect it will be) why not sit in full lotus? so, I looked up videos and found this. It makes sense to me and was well explained. thank you. I will take this approach but in the spirit of the Japanese haiku poet, Issa, who wrote:
Oh, snail.
Climb Mt. Fuji.
But, slowly. Slowly.
The haiku 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
You look much healthy for 75. Wishing you good health
I was able to do it half when I watched this video for the first time. I did it on the second day with these practices. Thank you for your help!
I have started started doing padmasana with all the stretches covered here. People it really worked for me. Thank you for the videos🙏🙏. Feeling more flexible
Finally I done the padmasana. Thank you mam for showing the correct stretches😇
I haven't practised yoga for sometime and I used to struggle with this pose so much that I hated doing it. It was never explained to me as well as you have done so in this tutorial. You have made me want to practise again, thank you so much.

Thank you so much for this video. I just did the first Padmasana of my life. I did this in one day.
It’s amazing and nice to hear 😊🙏
I commented on this video before one year. Though I wanted to do, somewhat I had been postponing.
Now for the past 10 days I am doing these preparatory asanas and padmasana regularly. On the second day itself I was able to to bring my second leg over the first.
Then from fifth day, I am able to stay in padmasana for full five minutes.
Today I stayed in Padmasana for 15 minutes and did Pranayam in it. Still I cannot do padmasana without doing preparatory asanas. I think in a month I would be able to do so.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm seriously considering to resume yoga again. Your videos are a good inspiration.
God bless you.
Wow, what a gradual process to reach padmasana. I was finding difficult to complete padmasana. With this gradual loosening up of joints, involved in the posture it seems possible. Explained and demonstrated in a nice and stepped manner. God Bless
Thank you so much for the positive feedback I’m sure it will be helpful for you to definitely try them and take it easy every time you go through it with all the wetness of breath and the body all the very best thank you so much for the positive feedback I’m sure it will be helpful for you to definitely try them and take it easy every time you go through it with all the wetness of breath and the body all the very best🙏😊
Very nice explanation and demonstration thank u ma god bless
Thank you! I hade multiple brain strokes, I'm 46 and I practice zazen meditation. So far I practice in chair, seiza posture and quarter lotus. With help of your practice for lotus position, after 8-9 days I manage to do half lotus without a problem. There is a many videos here "explaining" how to practice but this video of yours is by far most effective. Take ❤️ from Serbia, Europe. Thank you and allow me to say Namaste on Japanese language:

Started yoga after 4-5 years...was very anxious for not being able to do padmasana and well a lot more due to loss in flexibility, this tutorial really helped a lot. I am able to do a lot better in the 1st day itself after watching this, hope to get perfect with practice ❤

Thank you so much happy to help😊🙏
Thank you so very much. I used to do Padmasana a lot but with lack of practice, it’s very painful these days. Your warming up steps and the strengthening steps before the actual pose made it easy. I’ll follow the steps and strengthening postures and hopefully I can do Padmasana again
Thank you! I could finally do padmasana after so many years🙏🏻
Awesome 😊🙏
Thank u for the video. I was struggling with Padmasana for past 6 years. But now with the simple stretching exercises I now I can make it .

Madam, your video was crisp, voice clear & instructions unambiguous. Great! Many thanks. Keep it up.
I just love your explanations. It is really easy to follow through. One little favor, Madame: could you adjust your audio? I don't know if it was because of the mike or the room. Thank you in advance, and keep the great work up. Blessings from Germany
Thank you so much for the comment and makes me feel better with the positive feedback... will surely work on video part 😊👍🏻🙏
Wow! I take martial arts and I struggle with my splits and tight hamstrings. I have tried different things that didn't work. After just two days doing these techniques I see a difference and my hamstrings aren't hurting like they usually do.
Thank you. My daily yoga starts with this sequence. I feel good. Thank you.
Tremendous way to acquire yogasana skill in easy Step-By-Step Way. Thx. I always wondered how people are so flexible. Now I know, the secret is in Steps, like going to the roof, we use steps of ladder, same technique...different steps🎇Will practice. Thx again.
Cool.. the warmup excercise do work... I already had a major thigh bone fracture but it didn't hurt...
It's warmup taught in yoga classes also
Yes warmup is very important there other videos on warmup you can follow that as well but try to do 5 to 10 minutes, before you start practising🙏😊
This is a rare find. I have been struggling to attain padamsana . the prep tips is very helpful. Thank you. God bless you.
Thank You. This is an amazing video. Though I can do many asanas, I cannot do Padmasana. I lost hope after trying a long time. After seeing your video, I got the confidence that I too can do Padmasana. Please carry on your wonderful work.

Thank you for that. I have a Thai girlfriend and she and her family often sit on the floor cross legged and they have to get me a chair because I cannot sit in this position. I was looking for a video that would help me manage for my next visit to Thailand in May. You have given me hope. Thanks again.

Beautifully explained & demonstrated. I was waiting for a long time from some one to explain this good. Please also explain & demonstrate how to sit in Vajrasana for longer time. My knees get pain in shorter time & tail bone also hurts. Is this preparation safe for older adults above 70?
Thank you so much for such a positive comment I have already made a video on this topic you can find it in my channel I hope that is helpful for you all the very best keep practising stay tuned and keep supporting me😊🙏
Warming up combined with Pressing the acupressure points in the feet prior to doing Padmasana should be more effective (keep the sitting posture longer). I've experienced it and suceeded expectedly. Thank you
Thank you so much! I have been seeking the way to prepare my body to sit in full lotus.
Be careful you will hurt your knee it takes years
Neha mam i am doing very well padmasana with in two days only. Than Q very much. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Challenge accepted, if I'm not back in 5 days, I didn't make it....
Legend has it that you are trying after a year and still not getting it.

This is the best way...to learn padmasana
Thank you so much ☺️
Good video but it won't be possible to get into padmasana in 5 days without an injury.
True. But keep in mind they have a link to a video where they cure diabetes in 13 minutes so they'll claim just about anything I guess.
@@simonshusse hahahahaha
Well said 👍👍 every asanas is a years of practice not one or few days
Still, the exercices and above all the way they demonstrate is perfect.
@@freredelacote6439 True. But in the west many use yoga to stay in the present moment with clear thoughts. It just seems counterproductive to pursue an ambitious goal in such a short time. Just do your practice good things will happen, when they happen. ^.^
Very good explanation , this video is enough to do Padmasana 👍
Thank you so much 😊🙏
Great video and amazing woman you are I like your explanation can I hope see more videos about yoga

Superb, Helpful teaching keep it up !
Thank you for the good feedback Sarvana. Keep practicing😊👍🏻🙏
Padmasana is THE BEST posture for Pranayama and Meditation and many people find it extremely difficult to practice this IMHO. And your video is easily the best video on RUclips for doing Padmasana!! I have passed on the link to many of my friends in yoga class who find it impossible to do Padmasana. I had the good fortune of being able to do Padmasana already - however, I found great improvement in my pose and a lot of flexibility after I followed the instructions in this video for a couple of days. I also see tremendous benefit from the various other asanas / exercises (Stiff shoulder, Frozen Shoulder, Pashchimottasana and so on....!) you have presented in this channel. Gratitude !! God Bless You! Keep up the excellent work you are doing!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Would love to make more videos which will help ppl.
A comment like this make my day ❤️😊🙌🏻🙏

Thanks so much you both are great it's the perfect video and very simple instructions
Wonderfully explained.. 😃😃 Many thanks for this video Ma'm..
I have a doubt... Pls clarify.. Is it a good practice to have food in artha padmasanam..
Thank you so much for the comment here... food is something which you need to eat In most comfort posture as your body is going to absorb it completely. So it’s said that most best posture to have food is sukhasana. When you have the best posture to have food then I don’t think we need any other asana.
If you still like sitting in ardhapadmasan, I think it should fine. 😊🙏👍🏻

I had ligament tear in my ankle although no surgery was required to fix it 2months back... now I am alright... I wanted to learn various asanas to improve flexibility would you still recommend me to do padmaasana ?
If it’s just 2 months back then I would say work on stregthening your ankle first for a month or so and then you should try for these asanas 😊🙏
How wonderful. I will try the exercises and see if I can achieve the correct position. Blessings from U.K 🇬🇧🙏

Hi Neha
How many days it will take to put padmasana , if I practice preparatory daily
It is paining in the ankle n knee, when I am trying padmasana
Generally it should take about 5-6 days to get into padmasana but then it also depends on individual practice. So keep doing the practice and put lil effort everyday but remember don’t force yourself too much. In the end you will surely able to do the asana till then enjoy the journey of practice 😊
Padmasana is the best posture for self realisation.

Can you make some comment if this is is important, or not?
Thankyou Neha.. your tips helped me to make the posture. I have been struggling with padmasana although my body is flexible. Thanks once again.
