I know you probably don't read comments but I want you to know that this video has helped me so much with flexibility and pain management. I have pulled me lcl and mcl in my knee and injuries my hips from football and rugby. a couple years ago and have never been back to 100% however since I've been doing these stretches both knee and hip have made remarkable improvement so thankyou

@@nnlniclb Agreed. Flexibility expands your ability to practice one-pointedness in different settings, though. It's hard to concentrate without relaxation, and it's hard to relax when you're very tense or in pain. Anyone's practice will benefit from being more flexible.
so far the most beneficial lotus pose tutorial, especially the feet stretch. From almost no lotus, I ended up holding the pose for 10 minutes after just one session. Namaste 🙏🏻

i have checked out EVERY yoga instructor. your by far the most traditional, and very life changing... i have a great appreciation for the light you bring to all that accept it. and manly man...if you really want the best results/body..instead of only pumping iron, and getting crazy aggressive ..try the opposite as well. yoga and meditation. you'll truly have it all.

This girl clearly has high level of natural flexibility. For those who can't do full padma there is no shame in using cushions to get the correct and comfortable posture. it is the meditation which counts! Om Shanti.

You don't know she's naturally flexible, either way the usage of cushions is encouraged in this video; if a person watching this doesn't understand that you don't have to be like her, but this is a video on how to get more flexible (with or without "natural flexibility"), that only shows their level of intelligence; as nowhere in this video has anyone said that you MUST be as flexible as her to meditate. But I guess you've posted this to encourage people who are easily discouraged.
The only comment I'd made before yours is still there and clearly says: “flexibility is a part of it”, which implies that flexibility isn't the only thing it takes for her to be a yogini. My comment was critical of Beadybonce's claim to the yogini owing her advancement in flexibility to it being “natural”, instead arguing that it is rather a result of her continuous practice. Which, in my opinion, matters, as it's easy to think that one can't achieve something due to the lack of some “natural” advantage and be discouraged by it, by such limiting one's possibilities and motivation. As much as I do not deny predispositions, I believe that this video's intention is exactly to help anyone achieve higher flexibility, even if not such as the yogini's at first. And yet the comment was probably reluctant as it doesn't seem to communicate well instead making you focus on something I hadn't even said. It's really weird that not only you disregard the fact that I agree with you, but go on to state I'd deleted something that never existed, when in fact the illusory issue lays in your poor interpretation.
Doing this as a weight lifter I'm finding out what pats of my mobility are lacking. Slowly slowly I am getter better and my whole body is feeling more in balance.. The yin and yang, fire and water, lifting and yoga are essential.

Yes it is normal. It can take a long time to do the lotus well, just be patient and keep practicing. Actually being able to do the lotus in 18 months is quite good, some people take much longer than this. om!
It is different for everyone and depends on many factors. It is generally not a good idea to put a time limit on it. Just practice and enjoy the practice and you will make progress. Any age can do it. You are getting benefits by stretching to your level of restriction, whatever that level is.
It is different for everyone. The important thing is not to rush it because you can give permanent injuries to the knees. It is normal that the lotus is very uncomfortable at first, and it depends a lot on where your restrictions are. Just be patient, it is possible to do if you give it time. Good luck!
Wow what a great video. I liked the pillow under the feet this should help open the hips for an easier transition into lotus. I'll add that into my practice :)

I don't know about what you have been taught, but in our yoga tradition we practice stretching exercises, and strength building exercises seperately. Only stretching without strength building can make the muscles weak, but they are done separately. It is not a requirement to sit in lotus for meditation.
It depends on your fitness level to start with. The indice in yoga by which we judge something is too much is pain. Too much pain, or bad pain, and you should stop. You can try building up to this and if it is no problem for you then go for it!
The best is to go slow so you don't hurt the knees. To progress faster you should do many of the leg stretching yoga postures. If you feel bad pain then you should stop.
wow, i was able to sit in a lotus position by the end of the video. That is amazing! only not for a long time, still have a sensation of too much strain in my feet. Will be practicing it for a week and curious about a result. Thank you!
+Maya Wallace do it mentally as well, not just physically. notice how during all the exercises she did in the video and 90% of the times people meditate, they have their eyes closed ??? do u think its a coincidence ?? its called " mental visualization " where they mentally imagine themselves and visualize themselves doing the exercises, slowly, which in my case removes the pain completely and allows me to stretch beyond my "usual physical " limits. but in your case, it will sure help you a bit more into enduring the pain and removing some of it. so next time when you sit normal imagine and visualize that you are sitting knees crossed normally, not lotus, imagine and visualize that until there is no pain in normal sitting for at least 5 -10 minutes ( which is also meditation btw ). after that you can start doing all the above in the video, with mental visualization slowly and gently and imagination , it will boost your time 10folds !! make you endure the pain, make your muscles stretch faster and stuff. keep practicing it and visualizing it and mentally exercising it not just physically, and youll get that in 1 month MAX i guarantee, ive been doing stretching for about 1 week barely.. and i can sit in butterfly position and kiss my feet now, and prior to that, i couldnt even sit cross knees for more than 5 minutes ^_^ good luck

Well you can do lots of hip opening yoga asanas to help with flexibility outside of this exercise. The truth is that you do not have to be able to sit in lotus to meditate. The best position is the one that you can sit in a long time. The point at which to stop pushing is when you feel pain. There are people who push too hard for this asana and wreck their knees permanently. It is better to go slow. Good luck with your meditating.
Thanks for talking about modifications. I did not have any knee tightness a few months ago when doing lotus position, but have been walking alot more and now my knees hurt/tight. I need to find exercises to get them more stretched.
It is not a requirement to sit in Padmasana for meditation. You will have to build up to it and be patient. How long it takes is very individual and depends on many factors. Instead of full lotus you can try half-lotus, which is one leg in lotus position, the other below. The best meditation position is the one you can sit in for a long time, whichever one that is. Also sitting on a pillow or cushion can help. Good luck with your meditation!
I absolutely love this routine! This has really helped me getting better and better lotus pose + I can kick a lot better now and it's also not too challenging, so I can do it in the morning without having the need to go to the shower. Brilliant job!

After 2 months of 4 days a week exercises, I've managed to do it on one side and later after 1 more month did it on another too!
