I've been playing guitar since I was about 13 (35 now) but I was obsessed with great rock guitar well before that and I remember distinctly being OBSESSED with Live, Collective Soul, Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, etc etc all from around that time. Something about their songwriting and guitar work always fascinated me and more than likely pushed me to start playing guitar myself even if at 13 I was more into punk and metal. I definitely think it started with my dad playing Boston, Led Zepplin, Queen, and Black Sabbath and really grew in the 90's with this alt rock scene

This song is my dad's favorite song by Live. My favorite song of theirs for some reason is Dam at Otter Creek.

This is a pretty deep song, but I also don't see the connection with a car crash... though I suppose it does mention loss. Maybe it's like anything can happen as fast as lightning crashes. In this case the friend was probably having a good day then he's suddenly lost forever

I was really into this album when I was in college. This was probably the most popular hit they had, but honestly I don't think it's their best song. "I Alone", "Lakini's Juice", "Pain Lies on the Riverside" are all better, IMO. That said, I do like it. I have no idea who said it was about anyone who died. I'd never heard that. I mean, maybe it was inspired by such an event, but it's clearly not ABOUT that. It's about the circle of life - we have a mother giving birth, while at the same time another mother is dying.

    • @bjoern0975
