The song is about the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The angel opens her eyes in birth, and closes them in death. The angel is both a symbol of the divine and of life, and the living people themselves (eyes opening for the first time in life, closing for the final time in death).
Two different mothers. One down the hall from the other. "Old" mother dies. "New" mother brings forth new life. You have no idea how HUGE this song was when it dropped. The whole album played constantly on the radio. Incredible band.
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 Wow! Always imagined Ed as being a good guy. I met him briefly at a meet and greet event that came with some VIP tickets I had to a show in Philadelphia. Actually, the whole band was very cool and seemed appreciate of the fans.
Live is a super underrated band. Ed kowalczyk is a great voice. I wish more people would give them reactions. And I wish more people would give them reactions that were as thoughtful as this. Thank you. God bless you
Live and Collective Soul were the two biggest hit makers during the 90s. 8 top ten Billboard hits between them from 94 to 2000. They were hit making fools churning out records like crazy.
These lyrics sum up the song "an old mother dies Her intentions fall to the floor The angel closes her eyes The confusion that was hers Belongs now to the baby down the hall"
The song came out the year I was born. Live is amazing. They have a song called Heaven too. But this song gives my whole body chills. The song is crazy. It's great.
This song is in my top 3 favorite of all time. I appreciated you appreciating the theme. You also covered Black by Pearl Jam- also in my top 3 fave songs of all time! Thanks for keeping it real. P.S. noticed your Santa Clara shirt- as in California? That's the county I grew up in!
It shows you when there’s a birth there’s a death and there is a survivor. The angel appears as the women dies. Later the angle consoles a women whom lost a child in the bed in the fetal position and then a birth at the end. All stages of a babies birth and death. It even talks of the old mother crying as she loses her daughter. So well written. And it’s dedicated at the end.
Really like your intelligent reviews , just very recently discovered you. Just a suggestion and I mean it in the most kind, constructive way. My major complaint with people that do reactions is they keep stopping and starting the song, and it totally ruins the rhythm of the experience. I realize that maybe you want to get the thought out while you remember it, but maybe you can keep a pad and pencil there while you're listening to the song and just write down words and impressions as they come to you and then when the song is over, kind of sum it up? Anyway, just a suggestion. Keep up the good work.
1st of all if you're going to put your religious views into a video it will be a thumbs down every time If you paid attention to reality then you would realize that the mother of the baby didn't die It was an older woman down the hall that died at the same time the baby was born The circle of life Not gonna subscribe to someone who puts their religion On their channel

"The confusion that was hers, belongs now, to the baby down the hall".
WOW. What an album!! Every song on here was Gold!!!
With every "lightning crash", one mother gives birth. One mother dies. Circle of life.
Extremely powerful song............................................................it carries a lot of water.

He wrote this about a friend who passed away young. The person who died was an organ donor which is what it’s really about. Great reaction
The mother didn’t die giving birth. The old mother who died was a different person.
Love this song
Great channel, you seem to really love the music and not just hopping in the reaction bandwagon.
This is an epic one ..
Pearl Jam Oceans unplugged... Short but soooo amazing
Live, Album Secret Samadhi, song Lakinis Juice
Try their song “Pain Lies On the Riverside”...that’s another great one, very soulful

Hey JT this is a deep song, baby.
My sister in laws aunt died giving birth and three months later I gave birth and my baby died four days later. Twenty years ago I still have bad days.
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you have found peace.
