    Hey just wanted to thank you for the time,effort, expense of making these videos. I have a 2k on my low mileage fusion motor, runs great, powerful....wish it was more so, but a definite improvement. Could not, would not have attempted it without your and other videos. Thanks again.

    I just put a 2015 2.5L into my wifes 2007 Mazda3. Works absolutely fantastic, and the timing advice from Baxrok2 was very helpful. I made a couple tools from the flexplate that came with the 2.5 to hold the flywheel and the front pulley while I torqued the front pulley bolt.
    1. Bought an adaptor from ebay for $20 to use the 2.3 intake. Left the rail/injectors on the 2.5.
    2. Had to RTV the VVT seal from the 2.5 valve cover on the inside because the VVT solenoid was smaller.
    3. Spliced the VVT connector from the 2.5 in place of the 2.3 one.
    4. Left the 2.5 oil filter housing on so I could use the standard oil filter type.
    Got an engine code at first, but went away after 20 miles or so. Has more power, and sounds great.

    Great job man! I considered doing this swap to my 05 Mazda 3 with the same oil consumption problem, but I ended up selling the car and getting an 08 Speed 3. With my luck, the Speed 3 i purchased has a Cylinder 2 leak issue, but no oil consumption. I'm thinking about swapping the engine for a built long block in the future and I think your videos will come in handy.

    Sorry if you covered this in one of the videos but it was not covered in your forum post. Why did you use the Mazda water pump pulley instead of the Ford? what is the difference? I am in the research phase of swapping a 2.5 into my 2007 2 door focus and I am planning in using the Mazda 3 pulley set up so that I can have power steering A/C delete. It looks like the Mazda alternator bolts right up to where is A/C was one the ford engine and I know from wiring diagrams that both alternators are controlled via a two wire request/response system so that should work fine.

    Do you by any chance know what is there to do in terms of swapping 2.5 into Mazda 3 with 2.0 engine? I think mine is starting to burn oil and I'm considering doing the swap. Or maybe you could put down a list of what things need to be kept from the 2.3 engine and put on 2.5 engine? Can you recommend what engine to look for? Any particular engine codes?

    • @baxrok2.
      @baxrok2.  4 года назад +2

      Yes, a Mazda to Mazda swap is much, much easier. Its actually the best way to do it. However the downside to it is that you still have a Mazda engine lol and it's most likely higher mileage. But, if you got a good deal on the (hopefully healthy) donor car, it's probably a good swap. Can easily be done in a weekend. Good luck!

      @@stefmin1357 If you have an 04 or 05 you'll have to put the cam sensor from that motor onto the 10 motor. Which means you'll need to do the timing job. Otherwise, the manifold and throttle body can stay. I'd encourage you to go to Mazda3Forums.com and follow the threads for the motor swap. That is where I got all of my info from. Will a Mazdaspeed 3/6 engine swap into a regular Mazda 3?

    • @baxrok2.
      @baxrok2.  7 лет назад

      Dose of Jay I don't know of anyone who has done it. It would not be a simple job and would require wiring harness changes and the PCM from the Speed. Easier to just get a Speed with a blown engine and swap in a new one. Speeds with blown engine show up weekly on Craigslist! Search Mazda forums for more info but I think the answer will be the same, don't bother trying to swap a Speed into a regular 3.

    • @MrHevelifter
      @MrHevelifter 5 лет назад

      Given this is what I've gathered from forum posts, but it is surely possible but you have to swap out everything that's different on the 3. Transmission, wiring harnesses, motor, ecu, etc. It'll be much cheaper to buy a Mazdaspeed 3/6. If I was trying to get one, I'd try to find one for really cheap at auction, maybe IAAI.com (Insurance Auto Auctions), that's not running but has a clean CarFax report with no wrecks, and rebuild the motor or get a low mileage version from LKQ on ebay. Disclaimer: I've bought a few cars off of IAAI.com already and you want to check out your state's salvage laws if you're looking for something you can actually drive on the road. "Clear" title means the car hasn't be totaled or salvaged previously, "Bill of Sale" means an insurance company bought and it's totaled. For about $500 from Harbor Freight you can get nearly everything you need to pull the bad motor (ie. sockets, wreches, engine hoist, engine stand, rags, drip pans). I'm in the process of swapping a low mileage 2011 Mazda 2.5 engine into my 2007 Mazda 3 in place of the 2.3.

      I thought that was you on the forum. I have a 2006 Mazda3 5 speed hatch, which I understand makes a couple of aspects simpler. I have 2 questions for now...
      1. Regarding pulling the engine, is there any way to pull it out the top, without risking the differential gears? I understand that the trans basically HAS to come out with. I have read I can just disconnect the D/S cv at the hub and leave it in the tranny. On the P/S, there is a shaft coming out of the tranny that is mounted to the backside of the engine. It looks like the cv can be disconnected after that mount point, leaving the shaft in the tranny.
      2. Regarding the clutch, mine currently feels perfect, and I'm trying to get this thing on the road before next year. I fully intend to have it replaced, but would it be just a terrible idea to reuse my clutch and pressure plate(assuming no obvious flaws once it's out of the car) for now to get it going. I can afford to put it in the shop for the clutch in a few months. This is one of those, I'm poor and need to run the cost down as much as possible sort of deals.
      I refuse to cut corners on this engine swap, but I have to make do with what I have, and I'm not concerned with "fix it now BECAUSE the engine is out and it's easy. I will fix anything that needs it, but otherwise I will just let a shop handle things later. I spent about a decade shoulder deep in engine bays and it's just not my thing anymore.

    • @baxrok2.
      @baxrok2.  7 лет назад

      1) I pulled my engine out the top with the axles out and radiator/fan still in. To make it easier, take the trans mount bracket off of the transmission. Engine will come right out. I took the D/S halfshaft and CV out for added clearance. They are very easy to get out and when you get to pulling the engine that added room is worth the time it takes. Can you leave the halfshaft (part attached to motor) in? Probably, but I didn't try it. If you leave the radiator and fan in like I did I don't think you'll have enough room though.
      I've read that the biggest risk to the diff gears is that if you pull the axles the gears can drop down inside the trans meaning you'll have to take the trans apart to fix it. I pulled both axles and put two thick pieces of wire through the trans on either side of the diff shaft. I taped the ends together so nothing moved. Worked perfectly and didn't get in the way during the pull.
      2) Terrible idea to reuse the clutch? No, not at all. I'm poor too, so I get it! The only reason I did the "fix it now" thing on everything is because I'm getting old and didn't want to have to go back and do things later! lol

    Did you need to tune the ECU to get the best of the 2.5?

    • @baxrok2.
      @baxrok2.  7 лет назад +2

      This has been discussed and debated often on the Mazda3Forums. You can go there to see for yourself what people are saying which might help. Most people it seems never bother with a tune unless they are doing a performance oriented swap. Most swappers I find are more interested in simply getting their cars back on the road and so are not doing any further tuning. In my opinion a tune is not necessary for a successful swap. I've had no problems with my swap on the stock ECU. Engine parameters are all in range and it's running fine. Seat of the pants says all's well also. Would a tune help? Well as with most tunes, probably. Would it help enough to justify a ~$500 tune for a few HP and FTlbs torque on a stock engine that's running fine? Well, ultimately that's up to you to decide, but for me the answer is no.
