I have so much respect for Pete for doing this. Politicians should be open to this kind of real town hall. More effective than anything I’ve seen on television.
I really wish he was at least her VP pick. Tim wasn’t a bad choice, but Pete is intelligent, has great perspective, he’s a veteran, funny, is a great communicator, he’s understanding, and is mature while still being younger then most in DC… he just has a great personality overall. I hope Harris finds a greater role for him.
Exactly. Jill isn't going to win a single state nor will she come close in any state. I look back to 2012 when Gary Johnson ran for president. I live in New Mexico and a lot of people here love Gary Johnson since he's a former governor of New Mexico. Gary didn't even get 4% of the vote here and New Mexico was his strongest showing in the entire country.
Im almost certain its because since they’re undecided voters, they have no loyalty to either party so they’re not getting upset when they hear something they don’t agree with. It doesn’t feel like an attack to them, it feels like a conversation
Just like how they had a democrat speak over and louder than everyone in the past video? It is clear Jubilee is trying to look neutral but wants people to vote democrat.
One thing I always find distinct with Pete from most other politicians - he (at least appears to) really listens to the fellow American he's talking to. You can tell when people are only listening for a chance to talk (like almost literally every minute of every political talk show interview). He's invested in the perspective of the person across from him. What mostly convinces me of this is Pete will rarely if ever respond to a statement with a canned campaign quote. His responses are bespoke to the context and language the other person presents.
Hey. So glad some people appreciate the tempo of this video. I was so sure that people would find the video boring. (I was in it) We were all so polite to each other, didn’t quickly vote each other off, and were letting other people go ahead of us. It was a very midwestern debate/conversation.
@@08AlexMom this is a town hall where a Democrat responds to undecided voters of all persuasions. It was never branded differently. What is your point? Pete should duplicate inte a democrat and a Republican? Whaaat? Do you even think?
@@08AlexMomyet whenever the “other side” is given a spotlight they scream and shout like toddlers, what truth comes of that? At least this is productive conversation
Pete is the absolute GOAT for this kind of circumstance. He seems genuine because he IS genuine. He talks to Americans who might disagree with him because he LIKES talking to Americans. He never seems like he's struggling to remain respectful because he ENJOYS civility. And all those genuine motives actually infect whoever he talks with . Pete's super power is how he organically causes whoever he talks with to enjoy elevating the conversation while its happening. He pulls them into a self-reinforcing virtuous cycle of conversation that iterates always toward improving and becoming more cogent, generous and collaborative. It's masterful.
Exactly!! He is the type of person I wish we had in any office. This ability to reach across the fence and show care is very very sadly being lost because of how partisan and hateful our country is becoming, and I’m so glad to see that there are still people like him who can just care for the people in politics
@@ellingtonsmith4553 I don't think I"m following you. Are you suggesting Pete has a team that was editing out his flubs in real time at the live event and then publishing that edited version of the video to RUclips? And even if that wasn't logistically crazy, I'd still disagree with you because being disingenuous is different from not being able to answer every question perfectly in real time, with no mistakes. Apologies if I've misunderstood the critique you're making, though.
The blonde girl in the red shirt shirt came in so passively angry; like she was only there to get a "gotcha!" moment, and looked disappointed she didn't get one.
This was great to watch. Pete, we need you to do this about 15,000 more times in the next 40 hours in Michigan and Pennsylvania and I think we’ll be solid
I’ve watched a lot of Pete. This wasn’t even his best performance. Was kinda frustrated as just as he was hitting his main points, the clock ran out. Was pulling for him as VP but also love Walz. The Dems have a deep bench for sure!!

Yup. That destiny one was a clown show and destiny was unable to keep his composure. He thinks screaming=winning an argument. The ben shapiro one was as well. He thinks religion should be the basis of every political debate which is fundamentally wrong in a country which is supposed to be free from religion in government. Yes, religion can be an influence because its part of the needs of the constituents but it should not be the foundation of political arguments. shapiro fails to understand that.
Pete has such a gift of explaining the facts without being judgmental. He speaks so clearly to the concerns of voters. It is such a pleasure to hear debates that are informative rather than condescending. Thank you!
lol "facts?" He strait up stated that democrats aren't trying to censor the internet, when kamala has explicitly said she wants to censor the internet for "misinformation". Meaning she wants the government to decide for us what misinformation is. He even got fact checked by Jubilee, and they are on his side with everything.
If the DNC wasn't corrupt, he would've been chosen instead. But they don't care about meritocracy, they care about racial and gender divergence. They are willing to risk losing the election by choosing someone who can't explain herself, and for what? If not something righteous like diversity, I think it's for something pernicious like she's a better state puppet and is more willing to do what the corporate donors want from her. She's more likely to go to war than someone like Pete and increase funding for the military industrial complex.
If you're guilt voting for Jill Stein. The best thing you can do for the Green party is help build it from the bottom up. You can't run a congress or senate with 0 seats
Yup agree they can have a voice in Congress and build up an actual say in lawmaking. This would also be a creation of a third party which so many here complain about.
As a person from a country that does have multiple parties, I completely agree. It has been a long time (decades) before any third party has come close to winning the leading position, but they are getting closer by winning seats. In the meantime, their power is in choosing who they SUPPORT to be the next leader of the country, in return for assurances of support for their concerns and interests.
This is so great to see. Pete’s calm way of talking is so soothing and you can see him genuinely listening and caring about each person talking and trying to address each of their personal issues. One of the best pieces of media I’ve seen surrounding this election. So much hope
The fact that he could remain that calm and collected throughout the video, even when addressed at more aggressively, just speaks volume to his authenticity and clear-headedness. Also, I’m constantly amazed at how he could succinctly summarize the other person’s ideas before giving an answer of his own. I mean … some people can’t even line out that clearly what they’re thinking. And he could do that for them just by listening. An excellent listener as well.
FWIW, when he was mayor he basically did the same thing. He set up regular town hall meetings where he would just sit at a table and literally anyone could walk in and ask him questions, get help, debate policy, etc. He mentioned that he was there for hours some nights so everyone had a chance to talk with him.
Mayor Pete has always been a shining star in the Democratic party. It broke my heart in his primary season to see people liked what he said but didn't like that he was gay. If Kamala wins, I could absolutely see him as the front runner 8 years from now, since she would break all the barriers.
That ability to understand someone so well that you help them understand themselves is honestly one of my favorite things about him. I’ve only ever met one person irl who could do that and she’s one of the smartest people I know
The only one to challenge Pete, & she was spitting straight facts. & Pete said holding social media accountable was for instance to protect women & girls on Instagram? Get real, she & the party have made it obvious that they have X (& more broadly Elon Musk) in their crosshairs. No whitewashing that, buddy...
@@spacepope87no? why? try to make out the patterns of dictators in the past and how they've come to power... using scapegoats to solve cognitive dissonances, using blame and fear to brainwash folks...
Yes, certainly voting for the *exact same power structure* that yeeted Bernie and installed Kamala without a vote will change things! Brillant take there! Not puppet behavior at all!
The second girl. She wants Jill, which isn't going to happen. I am a Bernie supporter, and hilary or harris voter. Put it this way. If you go to the Super Bowl Patriots VS Giants, you don't show up and yell Go Cleveland Browns! If you want to change the system, start local! make a change locally that will make it's way up the chain. That's how you get your person to win.
Ok. But honestly, I just wouldn't show up to the sporting event period if there wasn't a team I supported playing. So.. Apply that to the voting... Not many ppl are ok with that. Just not voting..
@@Silvermoonscorpion Yeah the analogy is not perfect, but it works. I like the Dallas Cowboys but they don't win so sometimes I support the Texas Longhorns because they share the same home state of mine even if the individual players are vastly different.

You want to destroy the two party system but don’t want to do the work to really activate a true third party. You can’t wait until election year to speak of a third party. These things take years to get off the ground.
Exactly. They end up voting against their best interest. Then, they act like they are better than the rest of us while screwing the whole country over. I don't take these people seriously for that reason. Do the work to end the third party system first. Then, vote third party.
There's a reason he had some momentum at points in 2020 like with the debates - he just didn't have enough backing of the rest of the party which was much more interested in keeping the status quo with Hillary & Biden after. I think with some more years and another cycle or two he could go for another run and have more success and I'm all for it, I was hugely into him in 2020
Impressive showing here. These kind of ideas need to be talked out. Americans must return to the true, face to face oratory skills technology seems to be extracting from our humanity
AOC quotes on Jill Stein are the best: "If you run for years in a row, and your party has not grown, has not added city council seats, down ballot seats and state electives, that's bad leadership. And that to me is what's upsetting. If you have been your party's nominee for 12 years in a row, and you cannot grow your movement, pretty much at all, and can't peruse any successful strategy...and all you do is show up every four years to speak to people who are justifiably pissed off, you're not serious. To me, it does not read as authentic, it reads as predatory.
The establishment only wants 2 party's. That's why. It's easier to cause more of a divide with only 2 villains. George Carlin had it correct " if voting really mattered, they would not let us do it".
Stein is a grifter. Lives a wonderful upper middle class lifestyle cosplaying as a presidential candidate every few years. If she cared about the greens she would be working to win over local and state government using that momentum towards federal government.
Exactly. Anyone who genuinely cares about having a 3rd party needs to do the groundwork to make a viable alternative. A protest vote is (at best) a waste in an election like this, but an organised movement to make a difference at the local level could genuinely make a change by next election.
@@niccolea2086 I completely agree. I think because this isn't the middle ground series it should be focused on understanding the other side's point of view and showing them yours, but all the emphasis is on shoving one's beliefs down the other person's throat and not letting them talk.

Pete is absolutely incompetent. His skills include looking presidential while either doing nothing or actively advocating for every policy that's actively destroying the West.
It might surprise you but politicians actually travel to different districts in their home states and talk to many people all the time. I have attended many discussions with my representatives. They take questions and will talk to you. You just have to show up.
And people who can stay calm, even on a topic they are passionate about. It makes all the difference. Buttiguig made a safe space for that, too. When Shapiro was brought in, people had their guard up, because the attacking he does on his show.

@@Jay_Em10the more so issue is that an elected official can’t change anything if they aren’t elected. Casting a vote for someone that statistically cannot get elected in a 2-party system, even if they are an advocate for ranked voting, is a vote that doesn’t go anywhere. The best option someone has is to vote for someone within the two party system who either adheres to your other values or supports a ranked system. Sure it sucks, but nothing will improve if people don’t vote or vote for someone who can’t win
To be somewhat fair there is something to be said about taking your vote from dems for an election or 2 to get the point across to politicians that you want to see something closer to a 3rd party plan. My impression is many people are expecting to be spoon fed exactly the information they personally are interested in and looking for - When political activity requires one to be searching for the information on their own and from as many sources as possible, even if the potential political involvement is limited to being a voter.
A website can be done by other people. Kamala is dead in the waters regarding her willingness to do interviews. And when she has done things like CNN town hall she reveals her ineptness.
I’m SHOCKED at the naivety of some of these younger people on this panel. They try to have a “gotcha” moment, and act like they’re the “smartest in the room,” when in fact, they focus on minor issues and completely dismiss the MAJOR issues. I think the woman who brought up same sex marriage and other and other issues needs learn her facts and spare us from her smirking.
Also love how both sides say “a non-vote for [my candidate] is a vote for the opposition” …. well maybe it’s just a non-vote let them vote themselves maybe 3rd party would be more recognizable if they were scared into voting for someone else
The woman in the brown head scarf, her arrogance and bringing up the Norman Rockwell painting, you could see how proud of herself she was in that moment. SO cringe ugh 🤢 Expert levels of virtue signaling.

Also voting third party won't do didly squat about it. Work for election reform within the parties or outside of them. Until then vote for the party closest to what you want that can win.
@@Hyde_Hilldon't be disingenuous. Voting for a third-party candidate can help third parties in several ways, even if they don't win. Here’s how: 1. Increased Visibility and Credibility: Each vote signals public support, which can increase media coverage and raise awareness. This visibility can help third parties build credibility, showing they have a genuine base of support. 2. Access to Future Ballots: Many states have rules that grant ballot access in future elections to parties that achieve a certain percentage of the vote. If a third party gets enough votes, they may automatically qualify for the ballot in the next election, saving time and resources. 3. Public Funding: In the U.S., if a third-party candidate for president receives a certain percentage of the popular vote, their party may qualify for public funding in the next election, helping them compete with larger parties. 4. Shaping Policy Discussions: When third parties gain support, major parties often take notice. They may adopt similar policies to attract those voters, so a third-party vote can influence the platform of larger parties. 5. Building the Party’s Infrastructure: Even if a third-party candidate doesn’t win, support can help the party grow by funding future campaigns, developing local branches, and attracting volunteers. Voting third-party can thus strengthen the party’s foundation, potentially making it a more competitive option in future elections.
One of the things I like the most about Pete Buttigieg is that he's unflappable. Calm, cool, collected, no matter what. Complete professional. I'm so glad he did this!
I could see she was trying to be brave and not make things easy for Pete, even if the logic behind her challenges was ill-formed. She probably represents a lot of people who have similarly simplified complex issues in their minds. I’m sure she learned a lot from the interaction.
here is my problem with Stein, what does she do between Presidential elections, look at Europe, they have elected green party in every Parliament, but this year in the USA we have no members of the green party running in any congressional race, or senate race
I noticed she didn’t clap when everyone else did. Idk seems kinda rude to me when you’re all supposed to be supportive for these every day Americans voicing their concerns and she comes off as wanting to fight.

You only hear Jill Stein during elections. Otherwise she does nothing to affect change.
The only thing you can bet on Jill Stein doing is running again in 2028 to siphon votes away from the Democratic nominee.
Someone let that poor girl know. Smh

That is a testiment to who Pete is as a politician but mosty who he is as a person.

If the DNC wasn't corrupt, he would've been chosen instead. But they don't care about meritocracy, they care about racial and gender divergence. @@Hyde_Hilldon't be disingenuous.
Voting for a third-party candidate can help third parties in several ways, even if they don't win. Here’s how:
More and more places are having votes on enacting ranked choice voting. Look into it.
The two party system will occur naturally

I could see she was trying to be brave and not make things easy for Pete, even if the logic behind her challenges was ill-formed. She probably represents a lot of people who have similarly simplified complex issues in their minds. I’m sure she learned a lot from the interaction.
here is my problem with Stein, what does she do between Presidential elections, look at Europe, they have elected green party in every Parliament, but this year in the USA we have no members of the green party running in any congressional race, or senate race
I noticed she didn’t clap when everyone else did. Idk seems kinda rude to me when you’re all supposed to be supportive for these every day Americans voicing their concerns and she comes off as wanting to fight.
the second girl not understanding that it’s already too late for jill stein to get elected is part why we are even in this situation
This is why we need ranked choice voting.
It doesn’t make since to have a room full of undecided voters an have there vote only able to be swayed to one side, Pete should of been tagged in an out with a equally mannered an qualified republican.
One of the BEST episodes you have aired !!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 This is an actual conversation 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Pete Buttigieg AND the participants are a freaking gems !!! As an Independent I am absolutely tickled to see this. We need to see more CIVIL conversations like this !!!
Thank you for this! I was one of the participants, and I can tell you that during filming we were all concerned that we were being too boring for a Jubilee video. But we all wanted to listen to Mayor Pete (and each other.) I was also really afraid to peek at the comments, but they’re mostly really supportive. Thanks again. I think YOU’RE a gem.
