The new guard for positive, optimistic politics are in town. Let’s get more of our fellow Americans to trust *their* government. Go Kamala and Tim! Go Pete!
We're in such a toxic crybullying environment that these sorts of violations (or incredibly grave ones like the Logan act) are happening pretty freely, but any attempt to hold them accountable would be drowned in screeching of lawfare and victimization, so in many cases it would likely actually be an electoral boost to have the law be equally applied to them. As usual, it's demanded that the Democrats uphold the higher standards we should expect of American government, and no expectations the other way.
Two of my favourite public figures together again. It gives me hope in public policy to know that Ezra and Pete will continue to have influence going forward. What would the world look like if we elected thoughtful, rational, focused, principled people into higher office? Hopefully we'll find out.
I wish we had Pete in Canada. I would vote for him to be our Prime Minister in a heartbeat. You guys are so lucky. Thinking and praying for our Southern neighbours
Can anyone imagine Trump answering the “what 3 books have you recently read” question? 😆 Truth Social feed doesn’t count, the McDonalds menu doesn’t count, and his revised prenup doesn’t count.
I 💯 Agree!! He is really a nice guy! I disagree with the other comment as I believe this current political climate has made more people even the ones that don’t want to do research about what is happening. I think this is true for young and older voters. I think we are getting back to facts not lies! I really hope he does end up running some day or maybe a Walz / Buttigieg ticket after Harris does her thing!! That would be nice!
Ezra Klein once again reveals his lack of depth. He simply relishes the superiority his constant criticism gives him. For instance, if he'd look into reasons behind why policy is made he'd find that what's driving California's inability to keep up with housing demands is that it's the state with the biggest population already, as well as the most prosperous. It holds some of the world's most varied and celebrated natural places and is also very susceptible to the ravages of climate change. Since our normal weather patterns started changing drastically about twenty years ago, our water supplies are being seriously challenged, as well as electrical grid, etc. No new housing permits are granted unless developers can demonstrate how they'll provide sufficient water, etc. It's called Accepting Reality. Too many Americans ignore the handwriting on the wall and charge ahead based on fantasy and ignorance.
Gosh, a long form political interview / conversation that isn't all about soundbites and gotchas, but seeks to understand the subject's positions more deeply. PB is an interesting and thoughtful man, and not just the Democrat's attack dog for dealing with the right. He's awesome at that, of course, but it was good to hear him relax and breathe in an interview.
My blood pressure goes down to the safe zone as soon as I hear Pete Buttigeg. He reminds me to think back and be grateful for some of the good things that have happened. If we would change the tax code, hammer away at the deficit, I would trust government far more. Feels to me like Harris is handing out game show gifts with her policies - it is just ad hoc and though I will vote for her, I do not buy it. We need solid tax policy - that helps the population as a whole. Fixing the deficit makes me know my kids and grandkids will be alright. I can’t stand Trump - but let’s stop mocking him and move on to talking about what it takes to run the country well.
Eastern Calif. has alot of room for housing, and if there were a few large scale housing, which would attract small business services, it might benefit the locals and lower opposition.
My dream presidential ticket is Pete Buttigieg and Adam Kinzinger. I admire these men greatly. I also consider Adam to be a hero. I’m 43 years old. These men are the best of my generation.
Both are very solid. This country needs leaders who are able to admit mistakes and pivot to choose what actually works, in contrast to doubling down and baselessly attacking opponents over innate characteristics.
They could never win, and WHO is their base. As much as I love the Times, the comments really show the main audience is detached from reality and reside in there own bubble.
Hats off. Pete is truly a very thoughtful, intelligent and savvy analyst of where we are, where we need to go and where we've been. I look forward to seeing where he will be come January next year and into the future.
You know I wasn't a big fan of Pete in the 2020 democratic primary, mostly because of his lack of experience in comparison to most of the people on that stage that being said I really liked this interview more then mosy other interviews I've seen of him, I think he's an effective communicator, I liked how he admitted that the democratic party was a bit naive with the russian reset, if he could possibly get foreign policy experience under the harris administration I could definitely see him as a presidential candidate come 2032.
The adversarial nature of politics, ......hmmmm Tell me, was there ever, in the history of party politics, a non-adversarial structure of the government with parties participating? Is the parlimentary sysem in some overlooked country, perhaps NZ?, any less adversarial?
Since the New York Times has been normalizing Republican weirdness, can Ezra Klein invite JD Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump to interview on his podcast the same way he interviewed Tim Walz and Pete Buttigieg?
They may have extended the invite already but the MAGAts declining coz there would be some tough questions (not sure how balanced, but it’s not an echo chamber). I imagine that Trump would cream in his pants (pls excuse my vulgarity) at getting attention from the NYT, even if he ultimately declines coz he knows he will look really bad for him. He’s been obsessed with the NYT even though he likes to pretend he isn’t by calling it “the failing NYT”.
California has benefitted alot of people going into the community colleges over 30 years. but Califoornia is a high cost of living environment. So what is happening to the emplloyment and job opportunities for thsee Californians? Many of whom are probably alot of "recent" arrivals, is the community benefitting?
I don’t consider myself to be a political crank. But I am deeply skeptical of Democratic Party precisely because of the Iraq war. I struggled tremendously voting for Hillary Clinton in 2016. If it wasn’t for Trump being Trump I would’ve voted for Trump.
Actually because Ezra is so well informed, he wouldn’t love his voice if it was blowing him, because said voice would have his mouth full, and thus, couldn’t talk. Ezra does not enjoy 1 sided conversations. Unless we are talking about a Jeff Dunham situation over here.
Goodness, what's that all about? What exactly is he doing wrong, in your opinion? 'Love the sound of his informed voice' suggests to me that he's triggered a strong reaction in you. Is that on him or you, I wonder? We get so few long-form political interviews these days, I very much enjoyed this conversation.
Listening to Pete gives me hope! His intelligence and compassion are what this country needs to heal!
The new guard for positive, optimistic politics are in town. Let’s get more of our fellow Americans to trust *their* government. Go Kamala and Tim! Go Pete!
Pete is one of my heroes. I served under don’t ask, don’t tell. I know how incredibly hard that is. This man deserves everyone’s respect.
Why do I only ever hear about the Hatch act during interviews with Buttigieg? Is everyone else just blowing it off or not sticking to it?
We're in such a toxic crybullying environment that these sorts of violations (or incredibly grave ones like the Logan act) are happening pretty freely, but any attempt to hold them accountable would be drowned in screeching of lawfare and victimization, so in many cases it would likely actually be an electoral boost to have the law be equally applied to them. Because he cares about the rule of law
@@MrNikosogiatros 100%. What scares me is that it feels like no one else does
Because it doesn't apply to elected officials, only to the cabinet and civil service, and most of them don't give interviews very often.
The Democrats are so fortunate to have Pete Buttigieg. So intelligent, articulate and thoughtful. Future president 😊
No future president because Americans will not accept him due to his personal life, what a sad thing.
Such an interesting and articulate gentleman
Two of my favourite public figures together again. It gives me hope in public policy to know that Ezra and Pete will continue to have influence going forward. What would the world look like if we elected thoughtful, rational, focused, principled people into higher office? Hopefully we'll find out.
Pete is awesome.
Pete Buttigueg for President after Kamala. What an intelligent, mature and kind man. What an example of Anerica at its best.
Pete always manages to soothe my frayed nerves and give me hope for America. We need more Pete.
Pete is going to be President one day
He’d have to learn how to simplify his communication style and broaden his appeal beyond college grads
🤞🤞🤞

I hope so. He is very smart, articulate, and cares.
I agree with his theories on helping the country and why we are in the place we are today
Great discussion, love these two together, especially the always intelligent Pete Buttigieg; he is a breath of fresh air. 🧖🏾🩵
Maybe in a few years, if the US people can listen to reason instead of homophobia, Pete could be president. He would be great.
Ezra Klein once again reveals his lack of depth. He simply relishes the superiority his constant criticism gives him. The child care credit helped my family considerably.
I'm dreaming of a day when someone like Buttigieg will be our president.
corporate lapdogs like pete have always been president
This is so satisfying. I absolutely love Ezra and Pete. Thank you!
South Bend, IN is not a small town. It’s a city with a lot of people, buildings, a large downtown, etc.
Pete needs to write speeches for Kamala! He makes the case perfectly.
Gosh, a long form political interview / conversation that isn't all about soundbites and gotchas, but seeks to understand the subject's positions more deeply. I hope you americans will be voting for Pete in 8 years from now... We, in the rest of the World, need to have decent leaders....
I hope Pete is president one day
Ezra Klein is smug and insufferable. But boy I love Pete. Unambiguous, able to defend what he says, full of logical ideas and solutions.
Such an intelligent man.
The point is, no-glasses bearded Ezra v. glasses no-beard Ezra
I can’t wait to call this dude my President!
Pete is the best of us. Thank you, Ezra! Your interviews are always informative and thought provoking.
This is the man America needs as president. He gets our families vote. 2028 a must please 🙏
Super educational interview👍🏼
Glad he's on our side!
unless you're a corporation he's not on your side
Two men conversing intelligently………ahhhhhhhhhh

Ezra left SF and suddenly he’s Don Draper over here!! Nice digs!!!
My unrequested advice: Pete needs to stay away from stages and keep up with the 1:1 interview style. He's such an effective messenger here.
Volume level on this is ATROCIOUS. I've turned the volume on my phone up to "could damage your hearing" And I still can't make out what they're saying

I so agree!!!
I would think a massive housing program that reached the small scale housing contractors would employ alot of Red State labor.
Love Pete
Hey are you going to build alot of those houses in places vulnerable to Severe Weather events? I would like to see where these houses would be built.
I love him.
Is it just me or does everyone at the New York Tim's have like an eerily similar creaking cadence...
Hats off. Pete is truly a very thoughtful, intelligent and savvy analyst of where we are, where we need to go and where we've been. I look forward to seeing where he will be come January next year and into the future.
Pete Buttigieg is sò good in every way
While Pete continues to RISE, America rises WITH him!
America’s future president!
🇺🇸💪🏻
Both Ezra and Pete will have a bright in their field. I hardly ever miss a podcast with Ezra
a video Ezra? i love it!
I am for Pete B. and Jessie Ventura
Why? Thats an odd combination
Ezra, have you changed your cover image of the NYTimes podcast menu? lol. I think the new image I see recently suits your age and status better.
That beard ages you, Ezra!
The adversarial nature of politics, ......hmmmm Tell me, was there ever, in the history of party politics, a non-adversarial structure of the government with parties participating? Is the parlimentary sysem in some overlooked country, perhaps NZ?, any less adversarial?
Ezra, Mr. Buttigieg was listening to you.

rhetoric
Try not to convert US cities into Beijing or Shanghai

Ezra damn
The more I hear him speak the more I realize why he wasn't and isn't president .
Why?
If it's going to be a dude again, this is the dude.
2028
“Winning Iowa in 2020” 😂😂😂
Ezra, Bernie won Iowa!
Marry me, Pete.
He is desperately ambitious and I can only hope Newsom pushes him out when he thinks his time is right to run.
7⁷⁷
Ezra Klein couldn’t love the sound of his own informed voice more if it blowed him. He’s insufferable.
Try him @ 1.25x :D
informed people are insufferable to you? lol
Actually because Ezra is so well informed, he wouldn’t love his voice if it was blowing him, because said voice would have his mouth full, and thus, couldn’t talk. Ezra does not enjoy 1 sided conversations. Unless we are talking about a Jeff Dunham situation over here.
Ezra is brilliant. So is Pete!
