    Thank you SO much for posting this video. This is the exact problem my Beetle had and thanks to you, I was able to tackle the repair on my own. You probably just saved me a few hundred bucks! I also saw your side mirror switch video and I'm going to attempt that this weekend. Maybe I'll find out why my fuel door doesn't respond to its switch too. (I think the dealership neglected to plug it back in after a window repair). Thanks again!

    Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I checked the wiring from the actuator to the rubber housing on top of the door. I open the plastic cover from all the cable system and nothing seems to look broken or burn. I check the continuity of the cables with a voltimeter and is ok. If I connect the actuator directly to a battery source it will work. The power lock system, interior lighting, and license plate lights work fine. If is ground problems, where should I look? Thanks for your videos.

      WD40 is an easy to find lube... some kind of spray grease might stay / stick longer, but use WD40 to help free things up (it can penetrate better than grease).

    Was that some sort of lubricant you were using in that bottle or a strong spray cleaner? Just wondering if I would need lithium grease to put on it when done. My daughter's car makes this loud buzzing noise when trying to open and takes a few tries to get it to unlatch.

    Ok this is great for showing me the way to access my latch. Can you give insight to the adjustments I need to make so that boot will stay open when I pop it from the door. I don't have a fob or a key that fits so have pop it from the door. We have a system where someone waits at the boot when I pop it. It's also hard to close, I just bought this for a daily driver to sip some fuel, it's a 99 and runs great with 172k on it. Just has a few items I would like to clear up. Great vid, guessing you shot with a hat cam of some sort? Thanks,

    Have you done any video on cleaning the drain tubes for the beetle?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 лет назад

      +Julie Mohr Check engine light has nothing to do with maintenance... you need to scan the ECM for stored fault codes. There are several reasons why the light could be on, from as simple as a loose gas cap, to as expensive as a faulty catalytic converter. Once you have the fault code(s), I can provide more info. Not all OBD2 scanners will show all stored codes... many auto parts stores will scan your car for free.

    Your videos are great, thanks for posting. I appreciated your coolant flange video also, saved me a bit of $$$. I have a 2005 Beetle, the lift gate works but only latches completely shut if I slam it ridiculously hard. It's uncomfortable for anyone in the car and I'm afraid that's going to end up breaking something. Any ideas of what might be causing that? Also, the 3rd break light leaked water, I replaced it now but the water corroded the sensor. I have that unplugged as a temporary fix, otherwise the car thought the trunk was open and wouldn't unlatch the trunk. What would the part number be for that sensor to replace it? Thanks a bunch, Thomas.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 лет назад

      Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment! There are some adjustments for the rear lid... which sensor is corroded? The latch connector is a common item that sees corrosion over the years, which will cause the rear lid open lamp to illuminate or the alarm to go off on its own, because the alarm module thinks that the lid is open even though it is not.

      ***** Yes, just got it thanks. I'll be checking that out. It was the sensor which indicates if the trunk is opened or shut. The sensor is on the back of the latch (bolted onto the trunk lid itself). I believe the latch is OEM part number 1C0827505E01C. #4 on VW part's site: parts.vw.com/parts/2005/Volkswagen/Beetle/GLS?siteid=9&vehicleid=190356&diagram=9210470

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 лет назад

      Tyler Stamatyades Yes, that's the one I ment... very common to fail (two ways, corrosion of the switch plug and the latching spring can break). www.deutscheautoparts.com/Search/1C0827505E01C (check with them to be sure that it is the correct part for our car, before ordering).

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  7 лет назад

      The push rod from the electric motor? The motor should pull it back after it is pushed out. If it does not go back in, then the motor is bad. At what point in the video can you see the part that you are talking about? At 1:38 you can see the motor push the rod out and then it goes back in. Is that what you meant?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 лет назад

      Maybe... sometimes it is something else.
      If the electric motor is preventing the latch from closing, disconnect the motor lever from the latch, close the lat manually (boot open). Lock the vehicle with the remote... does the alarm beep (single beep indicating that the alarm is set) right away? If not, does it beep after 2 minutes?

      I got the hatch latch off but a part in the assembly is not moving freely and that is why the deck lid is not locking properly, the part is plastic and just beside the linkage which is at time 2:06. I am talking about the linkage to the left and has the alarm dongle wiring attached to it. I think I will need a replacement as I cleaned out the assembly but still not moving freely.

    On my 2002 Beetle when I open the trunk using the switch on the door I have to quickly run to the back of the car to lift the trunk otherwise the latch actuator will return to it's resting position and the latch will hold the trunk lid again. Same thing happens if I use the remote on the key, I have to open the trunk before the actuator returns to it's position. How do I fix this?. Thanks in advance.

      +Capt Gingerbeard With the rear hatch up, try to close the latch with your hand. The latch should click closed. If it swings open / does not latch closed when you remove your hand, the latch might be broken. You also have to make sure that the motor that opens the latch is not keeping the latch from latching.

      Make sure that nothing is preventing the latch from latching... remove the latch to check out of the vehicle. If it works as it should out of the car, then something in the car is interfering with its operation.
