@maJastoL In crisis core, when Zack read Arith's letter she mentioned that it's been 4 years. Plus there's been a lot of cuts between then and Zack's final showdown. So he might even mentioned it because he always talked to Cloud.

Man it’s like discovering gold in your own home... the story is so good and I never even realized it. Back then I was more about the battle and grinding levels. I need to replay this game!
It's seriously fantastic. I think it came out much better than the creators even intended, just because they put so much personal intensity and honesty into it, and it pushes up against the border of what popular fiction is capable of. I was prepared to kinda disown it in embarrassment after playing it again as an adult after so many years, like "oh I can see now it's just one more shonen action yarn about sexy anime people with a little philosophy 101 thrown in," but no, there's something genuinely special about it that I didn't have the experience and education to appreciate back then (tbf my Japanese is also a lot better now, but even in English a lot of it comes through).
But yeah, it really rewards exploring around and paying close attention. There's tons of great writing about it online too that can give you new windows into the story that really open it up for you, from people who clearly have the English major chops to have genuine insights but not go off the deep end with it either.
@Rough Divide Yeah, those environments are still amazing. I'm confident you could take a lot of those backdrops (especially the nature ones), clean them up a little bit, and hang them in a gallery and even some of the snootiest critics would nod approvingly. But everything from the junk making up the Midgar slums to the eerie, misty glows seeping into a cave is so carefully considered purely to be beautiful and evocative, and to hint that every place has its own unique history of some kind.
Yeah, that Dyne scene is really strong. You get a good feeling of the self-destructive powerlessness that state can drive you to when he's acting all like "you'd better kill me, because otherwise I can't stop myself from killing my daughter, I can't accept her forgetting me and her mother so I'm going to reunite us all." Haha, I'm probably the last person to notice this but it wasn't until this time that I realized the 2 "crosses" on the edge of the cliff aren't ruined parts of a Corel building just to break up the visual line of the cliff and balance the composition with the house on the other side, but actually graves for his wife and Marlene. There's so much in this game about a feeling of powerlessness, and not just in the literal sense of your control of Cloud being taken away.
The part that REALLY got to me this time was the whole first time in the Northern Crater, from Sephiroth's illusion to when Cloud gives him the Black Materia. The growing sense of doom and panic is amazing as it slowly builds from confusion and uneasiness to literally the beginning of the end of the world, and in my head I could absolutely hear Tifa's voice breaking as she tries more and more desperately to keep Cloud from believing Sephiroth, and my brain played this sorta soft, choking wail when she eventually just breaks down after Cloud apologizes to her for not being real, as she not only loses him but retroactively the time they spent together. It'll be interesting to see how they do these kinds of things with voice acting.

The same with me. Never appreciated the story and music that much when I was a kid. I realized how gorgeous the story and music are after I reached my 20.
Most of the people who were saying that FF7 is not a masterpiece and is just overrated played the game when they were too young to understand everything. The game even has parallels in the real world. That's why sometimes, some extreme-minded people think the game is a propaganda. I just hate others then when they focus on it as anti-capitalist propaganda because I see this as a propaganda against pollution/nature's destruction (destruction of the planet = abuse of lifestream by ShinRa) and climate-change. The Weapons can actually be interpreted as the embodiment of the natural disasters brought upon pollutions (destruction of the lifestream). The Weapons are actually described, "They appear when the Planet is in danger, reducing everything to nothingness." There are just so many parallels and allusions that my comment is just scratching the surface.
The micro-story (about the characters) and the macro (about the world) are both fantastic and they both resolve each other by the end of the game.
When I first played this game, this scene didn't freak me out too much. But after a few playthroughs and CC, it is really disturbing to think about.
Had Tifa not found Cloud, he probably would have just sat in that spot.

You've got to remember, for Cloud the events of 5 years ago probably felt like 5 minutes ago. He literally went from his mom dead, home town destroyed, Tifa maybe dead, Zack almost dead and then killing Sepiroth to save them, him bleeding out and then Hojo gets him... Then he's locked away a tortured experiment for 5 years, then wakes to watch Zack his best friend die and stumbles from that into Midgar....
That's a horrifically nightmarish hell worse than any FF protagonist I can think of.
After playing CC, it's hard seeing Cloud like this:(
There are so many little moments in this game that I always find out the next time I watch or play. This time it was the fact that Tifa didn't realize it was Cloud right away, and when the guard just said "poor kid" and left him there, Tifa went up to this assumed stranger to help them out. Shows a lot about her personality without having to say it out loud.
Also Cloud moving like a zombie and responding to Tifa's "Cloud?" with "That's right. I'm Cloud" like some type of robot is so good. I hope they do that moment justice in the remake project.
My favorite game of all time without a doubt still to this day. Tifa was such a gem 💎 to Cloud and such a huge part of the story. She really helped him when he was at the lowest point of the game. If it wasn't for her, Cloud might've never snapped out of his state and possibly died. Thanks for sharing.
Playing the remake touches on Tifas feelings about this a lot more, you can tell in the first hour of the game she cares and is worried about cloud, she got him an apartment right away so she could keep him close and safe, but she didn’t want to directly tell him that, she sorta tricked cloud into staying
At first I never understood this scene because I was little back then but now that I have played a lot more games and gotten older this scene makes more sense. If Tifa hadn’t been there to see Cloud then who knows what could’ve happened to him. He could’ve died.
Tifa is best girl. How can it be denied? she saves Clouds life twice. She shows how strong she is emotionally by taking a backseat to Aerith's advanced toward Cloud, despite having strong feelings for him herself. Tifa though worried about Cloud can only watch as Aerith changes him and becomes this new positive for Cloud after roughly 2 months not being able to find out what's wrong with him she resolved to just wanting to see him happy even if it's with another woman, that's true love. Tifa finds her strength when Cloud is truly lost, it's a beautiful story.
And she gets the man in the end.
She sees that Aerith is firting with him and doesn't do anything because really, she is such a composed soul and always respects his space. Cloud, with Aerith acts like the cool guy, he jokes with her and feels the need to protect her, but as soon as he is with Tifa he lets go of that cool personality, to show a more vulnerable side, the real part of him. And all the while, Tifa is waiting for him, thrugh hard times and good times.
She is a real woman.
Also Aerith doesn't change Cloud... Cloud doesn't change with anyone, he just shows his real self when he is with Tifa...the entire time he's with Aerith, his behavior is influenced by Jenova and Aerith is flirting with him because he reminds her of Zack.
Tifa is not taking a step back, she is just more respectful because she knows he's not being in his right mind and wants to take care of him first. While Aerith just wants the Soldier that she sees in Cloud, when we know that in reality he's none of that.
Tifa doesn't care about backseating, because not only Cloud himself doesn't show signs of liking another woman, but also because she knows that she has to find the real him and take him back before making a move.
The "Aerith changes Cloud", is a fairytail that people who didn't get the meaning of the game, make up to satisfy their headcanons, when it's not like that at all.
If anything, Cloud's fake persona, feeds off of the ego that Aerith, wanting her bodyguard to rescue her, builds in him, making him stray further from his real self.
The only way Aerith changes him is with her treating him the way she used to do with Zack, so that Cloud's persona (based on Zack), will react to her in ways that real Cloud wouldn't normally.
Especially when he treats Aerith so badly and rudely one second and the second after he's back into bodyguard mode, while he never says anything rude to Tifa.
Haven't people ever noticed that?

Back when I was a teenager I didn't really understand or appreciate Tifa, but now as an adult with like book learnin and degrees and shit it's clear what a great character she is. I wish they gave us more from her point of view, especially during the visit to the "Potemkin village" Nibelheim, but we still get a lot in terms of the terrible situation she gets put in relative to Cloud. I don't think many of us could have handled it better. And she was right to be afraid that the truth (assuming she herself wasn't the crazy one) would lead to catastrophe, in a worse way than she could have imagined-Cloud lost the single shred of personal narrative that was holding him together against his own shame and inadequacy and couldn't even bring himself to fight against starting the countdown to the end of the world.
No wonder she collapses in despair and grief in the North Crater, and slept for a week after everything she was carrying came out at once. But she still didn't give up on Cloud, not only as the only other bond to the most nightmarish experience of her life and the key to her own past & the reality of her own self that she needed to reclaim, but for Cloud's sake as well, as a companion she'd grown close to for what she begins to realize is actually the first time ever, even as he seemed to grow further and further away-It's just like Barret said after she put Cloud back together: she's some kinda lady. That moment of intimacy under the Highwind feels like such a great bittersweet victory because not only does she "get the boy" in the end, but everything in her is at peace and she's able to treasure the only thing she has left, prepared in the event no one else comes back to head down with him alone into what they believe will be their deaths, with only a slim hope of it even making a difference, because they have to try for the sake of something greater than both of them.

I get the same feels playing the game again as an adult. I always wanted to put Aeris and Cloud together, but it's obvious that Tifa has a true heart for him.

@@ErManu10 Cloud never showed his face to Tifa back 5 years when the Nihlbiheim stuff happens. Cloud hid his face as a normal grunt. So he did meet Tifa, but Tifa didn't know. When he's found here at the train station he says 5 years by accident.

That's the Jenova Cells at work. Mako poisoning, trauma, regret, and weakened mind makes for a terrible host that won't survive (Jenova is parasite after all. Manipulates Cloud on all levels to make this SOLDIER persona)
The remake uses the effects similar to the ones used in Advent Children. I totally forgot how the original portrayed Jenova's fuckery.
Cloud and Tifa should adopt that dog and get married.
Fun fact: This scene was not in the original japanese version of the game. It was added to the international version (the one we got with Emerald and Ruby weapon also added).

@@ghostaskrens7012 End of Crisis core, Cloud is heading to midgar and this video is him passing out from exhaustion and still being sick from mako poisoning. The scene in crisis core with him on the train is the begining scene in FF7.
final fantasy 7 wiki page says that crisis core ends in year 0007 late september and tifa finds cloud in early october, and the bombing mission starts in december, so yeah the correct answer is that this was around 1-2 weeks after crisis core, cloud was 21 in the end of crisis core (since he has his birthday in august)

That CC ending takes place AFTER this scene, when Cloud got recruited into Avalanche. Even the original skipped this part and went on with the train scene first
So Cloud made his way to Midgar after Crisis core. How long is he just wandering Midgar and then Tifa finds him. and how long after that does FF7 begin?

FF7 starts in December
According to the official timeline, Cloud was basically wandering towards Midgar for a week. After Tifa found him, there's an approximate two month span where we just don't know what happened. Most likely, he was spending it recovering. Notice how in earlier demos of the FF7 Remake's openeing scene, Cloud is a lot more pale and skinny. This is a hint that Cloud is still sort of sick.

I have always thought the 5 year was to long. That would have meant Zack and Cloud were in the ranks at the manor for 5 years which seems a little unlikely. They really should.have went with a short time period like 3 years or less that also would have given more weight behind the 7 ro 5 gap as were as 5 years would mean Cloud would.have been 16 and a 16 year old as a SOILDER as believable.
He was 16 during the Nibelheim incident. He and Zack were in those tanks for four years, and then on the run for a year. He was 21 during Final Fantasy VII

@@AgentRedgrave because Cloud would be 16 and a 1st class SOILDER which after 2 years seems to soon that at most Cloud would be a 2nd like Zack in Crisis Core. If it had only been 2 to 3 years he would have been 17 or 18 giving home 4 years to become a 1st Class SOLDIER.
It is just to me the time period seem so long in some areas and so short in other. Also every character acts mor like they should be 3 to 5 years older.

Yeah this was after Crisis Core and Before the beginning of FF7. Cloud was still recovering from Mako Poisoning and suffering from Zacks death. Poor guy

Actually 5 years since he saw her. She never knew Cloud was with Zack when him and Sephiroth visited Nibleham. He said his name was Ramirez and kept his mask on. He left when he was 14 and returned at 16. He didn't make it into soilder. He was just a regular troop.
Pushing Aerith was an SE ploy to get players emotions worked up so there'd be a mass reaction to her death.
Always thought Tifa was the "truer" one of the two. Aerith's spunk+aggressive flirting was more of a negative than a positive. But then again, maybe younger people would have preferred spunk and that forcefulness. Personally think rushed relationships end terribly.

The cross dress part always annoyed me, you're a super soldier, would personally have cut my way in, gotten to her, extracted what answers were necessary from Corneo, gotten out. This would have been a cake walk.
But yeah, Aerith's utter glee at seeing his discomfort and even then deciding "let's poke more 'fun'" was pretty annoying. Tifa backed off immediately.

Eka Wiyani you are so wrong about Aerith, she is so mature and kind to everybody who ever know her in the game. Noticed how every kids in sector 5 loves her. How every one literally look happy talking about or to her. She literally spent half her lives in sector 5 trying to help everybody everyday. She only act childish when she is with Cloud because it is one of a natural reaction when a girl is in love with someone. And Cloud never have problem with that as he actually loves her back, so what is the problem?

Yeah. Tifa's fantasy about Cloud that she'd built up in her mind after years of loneliness. She wanted him to be a hero for her, and that's what Jenova gave her.
How come the graphic is so much better than the PS1 version ?
It's been remastered several times. The graphics are better in the remaster.
Buy the digital copy in psn you can play it in ps3, much better there.

Can someone help me explain where Clouds missing 2 years come from?
Tifa says its been 7 years, and Cloud only remembers 5, but I never really understood why?
A timeline of events:
2000 - Cloud leaves Nibelheim to become a solider
0002 - Nibelheim incident occurs, and Cloud gets captured - 2 years past
0006 - Zack breaks Cloud free from Hojo's experiments - 4 years past
0007 - Zack Dies, and shortly after Tifa finally meets Cloud - year past
It makes sense to me that he would have a gap in his knowledge from the time he was in stasis, but that's not the case since he would then have answered that 2 years has passed rather than 5? We know he misremembers his 2 years service of as an infantry soldier as well due to his shame, and I guess they are implying that the 2 years is referring to this period?
However, he DOES remember them, only WRONG as a 1st class solder, so time has still passed for him in this period.
Is it something Zack told him that I'm forgetting? Is he remembering only 5 years of Zack's story?
Zack is only a solider 1st class for 2 years, and he was in stasis the same 5 years Cloud was anyways?!?
I thought 'It's been five years' was referring to the Niblheim incident, no? He thinks he spoke with Tifa on that trip, in which case it's been five years since they've seen each other, but seven from her point of view because Cloud hid his face the entire time.

He remembers the years just fine though, just not what happened in those years.

Left 7 years ago, failed to join soldier, became a grunt for 1-2 years. Nibelheim happened and he got chucked into Hojo's nutjob experiment for 4-5 years. Zack broke them out, stopped Genesis, etc died in sight if Midgar after an up to a year journey.

Cloud hid his face and never actually spoke to Tifa during the Nibelheim incident 5 years prior, by there time Cloud rescues her (and we realize he was a grunt, not a SOLDIER), Tifa was already unconscious. The last time Tifa remembered seeing him was before he left the village 7 years prior.

This is a very important reveal for later, its shows the player something is wrong with Cloud that Tifa has known about from the start.

@@invisibleseeker 3rd game. Rebirth only covers until the end of Disc 1 which is where Aerith happens. We don't get to see Cloud's real past until Disc 2.
I bet this whole storyline with tifa and cloud in the wheelchair and all wont even get put in the remake after they already murdered the story in midgar alone. Seeming they are most likely not going to kill of aerith I doubt the tifa cloud romance will be as true as the original
I think it will. They will likely end Part 2 on a cliffhanger and part 3 will involve them looking for Cloud.
Its too soon to tell that kind of things. While Im not a fan of remake ending, it does make you look forward to how in the end it will play out. (Things you mentioned might still happen, one way or another)

I doubt they will just make Aerith the canon love insterest and force her to players....the game has options just like the og and i think they will go that way in the sequels, depending on choices maybe Aerith will die o survive but they are not gonna let her live and take Tifa place it’s just not going to happen and if it does happen I doubt they won’t give the people the option to have Tifa in the scene just like the original.
They are going to do different timelines with this game.

actually this whole scene is a little confusing, its not that your remembering cloud or that cloud was actually their. HOJO tells tifa that she doesnt actually remember cloud, some reaction in coming in contact with cloud made her think she had a life with cloud, this whole scene could be taken 2 ways. as truth... or as Tifa and Cloud realizing the fake memories that hojos project on cloud had made tifa think she remembers. You gotta realize one thing and this is full truth.... Hojo doesnt lie, its not logical too him.
But Hojo barely even remembered Cloud in the original. And he and Sephiroth were both basically fucking with Cloud and Tifa because they were mad that Cloud killed Sephiroth.

Will we ever get remake of the real final Fantasy 7 and not some multi timeline universe thing that has nothing to do with final fantasy 7 at this point I don’t know who to blame Square Enix or nomura one of them killing the very the thing that made this game way more special than any game out there

I never understood people who want Tifa for cloud. She is like a real good friend, so caring, almost like a mother, but I always preferred Aerith. Especially with her tragic end, a love which never could be realized to its potential, seems better than the childhood friend.
In the end, both are great. I just fell for Aerith.. Something about her..
If you ever played the Original, you'll see there is no lines or scenes about Cloud and Aerith falls into the relationship. All they got is a pure friend of mine each other, Cloud cried because he and team witnessed Aerith's death in brutal way.
No one can stand with that moment, even a stoicism's guy like Cloud.

Maybe it's personal bias and therefore I see more than there is, but even in the remake aerith acknowledged the love dynamic with her line"don't fall in love with me".
But it was followed by an "it isn't real", so yea.. it looks like you may very well be right, but if tifa and cloud would ever in any way fall for each other in the remake, I would be let down. Maybe keeping it ambiguous is the way to go, so people like you and me can talk about it:)
