wowserss...best eva!
That little improve piece in the last 5 minutes was so beautiful...so emotive. Nice job putting this together Brett!
Is this with the OXs (OXEN?) In the background Brett? Sounds incredible.
Steve Morse was the guy that smoked it. Damn.
Yes sir daddy!
I must add this. Im 61yo with incurable cancer, but that inspired the fk out of me!
Trying to cop anything possible. And had a great time playin to you guys. Good to have Guthrie back.
Hopefully. And Big T, Forgetaboutit!
GC, Beantown
cool ID logo. one of my all-time favorite songs. hope you're as comfortable as possible. play the hell out of that guitar for as long as you can.
My heart and prayers go out to you. My mom passed last January of the same. I miss her so damn much… i send my love
I'm so sorry about your cancer. Your attitude is admirable! I hope you get all the guitar satisfaction possible. I hope nothing has interfered with that. Love, brother.
Bukovac always blows my mind. Not great in interviews (imo), but I can listen to him play for hours without getting bored.
He is awesome in interviews. Watch his picking and rhythm lessons we did together they are fantastic!
What a treasure chest of great ideas and techniques. I know what I’m doing for at least the next year. Inspired
Awesome! Glad you are inspired. My job is done here!
That was beautiful
What must it feel like when Guthrie thinks your awesome on guitar? This was awesome Brett.. thank you
You are welcome!
two of my favorite guitar players, so killer!!
Thanks for checking it out!
Never heard of Tom before now. Dude is a musical wizard!
You are in for a hell of a treat!! peace
Check out the homeskoolin show!! Best thing on youtube! Uncle Larry is The music philosopher you did not know you needed in your life.
Thank you guys, pure gold here! Every guitar player should watch this, at least once, but this is one of those videos you’ll learn more each time you watch.
Tons of gems in there.
OMG.!!!! Way over due...Thanks for posting this guitar magic, Brett!
You are welcome Robert!
Awesome video. My two favorite Nashville guitarists. Thanks gentlemen!!
You are welcome Rob!
There is so much good info in this video we need lots more like this!
Thanks for this man these two are in my top 10 , thanks thanks thanks 🙏🏻 🔥 ❤️
That was excellent very inspiring 👍
Awesome!
This is fuckn awesome!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Could you guys just do that 12 more times (maybe add bass/drums...or not) and call it an album? Please. And then have someone tab it out and release the tab book for it. That would be awesome! Would be the modern equivalent of what Chet and Mark did.
Lol! That would be fun!
Good freakin Lord.
Pretty much lol!
HUGE CONGRATS BRETT. Way to make this happen for us. This is the best guitar thing I've seen on YT in a min!
Thank ya sir! Appreciate that!
I think it's the best one I've ever seen (sorry Michael, lol). Just that explanation of voice leading, I have to play with that.
Its been 2 min for me
Agreed, this is amazing! Suggestion for your show: Jimmie Rodgers live, "Waiting for a Train".
I had been playing guitar for two decades and could riff and solo around pretty well, but never quite understand how tunes were put together. I could play a few Beatles songs, etc., but it was learning Jimmie Rodgers songs by watching first, then by ear, that seemed to really help me understand how songs are put together.
Well, his songs helped me tie together theoretical concepts anyway. The root, four, five chord, the secondary dominant chords, the chords borrowed from parallel minor keys - it's all there in the most basic forms, without so much window dressing that it becomes harder to detect for beginners.
Anyway, I love Jimmie Rodgers now and always want to champion his music and keep it alive. Yodelayee!
Yes
Please do make it a sequence of sessions like that
So awesome
The first few minutes illustrates exactly why Tom's favorite thing about music is collaboration. He's incredibly creative, but he would never have predicted where Guthrie would go. Two of the best players in the world. Thanks for putting this together Brett!
Sure thing David! Glad you liked it. More like this coming soon!
I'm one of Uncle Larry's older students. Even though I'm 70 and have been playing guitar for 55 years he show's me new things and a different way of looking at playing guitar! He has re-inspired me, and always makes me a better guitar player, and he is an all around great guy! We all just love him to the max!! 8) --gary
I freaking love this comment Uncle Gary. Keep on Keeping on my friend and fellow nephew. Peace and good tone to you sir
gtr1952. Is it possible to get tuition off Larry regarding stringing together non diatonic chords with a common tone? Or does anyone know of any books you can get on this? Thanks.
Good lord. Those 2 are scary together. Wow, this level of musicality is overdriving the whole Internet. Love it!
Haha!
20 seconds in and I can already tell this is going to be the best thing I’ve ever seen on RUclips
Lol! That's how I felt filming it haha! The lesson is killer too!
It sure is! Thanks again for getting all these great players in the room. Learned so much from you and the Nashville community over the past couple of years
Exactly how I felt
@@BrettPapa the lesson was invaluable. It really was. I studied at a conservatory and took all the classes you could take on ear training and harmony and arranging and theory but just listening to Tom aka Uncle Larry to me…they way he said to forget about progressions and how to use voice leading and as long as it contains one note you could get a familiar phrasing or make it sound like it’s next in line. Plus all the knowledge he gained over the years on how to think like a piano player using intervals and not to think about chords and just use your ears and lead the music forward…man that shit was better than 4 years at a conservatory to me. That’s everything I wanted to learn right there…not all the jazzy shit, which is still amazing and I love it but I really wanted to learn what Larry and Guthrie taught in this video. Thank God for this one…I’m sure many people have been dyin for a lesson like this and will take it and really improve their playing.
@@jordandangelo180 Well said.
I watched... then quietly put my guitar down.
Terrifying isn't it
My guitars just looked at me in disgust 🤣
Lol!
I stopped watching and picked up my guitar
I know right. Lol. Just when I think. Man I’m really getting comfortable with my hands on the guitar. Getting the tones , the soul and flavors etc. then I see cats like this. And want to throw the guitars in the wood chipper. Lol. It’s all good. Guys like Tom especially. Just gives a guide for us to just be cool
No doubt, very humbling!
Is there anything that even comes close to this? It's almost a crime that it's free. Absolutely amazing.
Free???? Do u not pay for the Internet where you are then??
As a subscriber to all 3 channels this is pure gold. These guy’s are serious gunslingers and it’s pretty cool to see them all in the same room. How about a collaboration project similar to what Tom & Dean did for Trip The Witch. There seems to be a lot of common ground but plenty of different ideas to make it really interesting. I, and I’m sure many others would buy this without hesitation because you just know it would be brilliant.
I love Guthrie's cleanness, precision and tone on the tele and I love Tom's creativity, chords and leading tone vocabulary.
Guthrie looked like a 13 year old at his first guitar lesson
PLEASE YOU GUYS, MAKE AN ALBUM TOGETHER! You won’t lose money and you’ll have a good time🤷🏽♂️
Oh man I think I’d trade a limb for a whole album of these two trading riffs and solos
They just did and it’s EXCELLENT
Absolutely amazing, these guys don’t play the music, they feel the music.
Absolute gems 💎 Brett
Well put. Real guitar players play that way.
Yep. All first takes too!
It's all passion. All you guys still love the guitar.
When the music plays the players.
🧠🌌♾🎸🎼🎵🎶
@@BrettPapa ... Holy shit!
‘Buk has got to be one of the only guitar players that can really push Guthrie out into the deep water. Guthrie is such a master at soloing melodically / harmonically and you can tell that Buk’s throwing him changes he’s not used to - and when he nails it with the right phrase Buk immediately responds with “Yeah!” Great vid Papa.
Guthrie nails anything he is thrown into. I've seen him play so many times and he always keeps right up with the best of them.
@@BrettPapa But then he acts like it was nothing special. LOL
This is like being shown what was in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction.
Lol! That's a good one!
lmao
Bahaha exactly!
Love watching that smile pop up on Guthrie's face at Tom's playing. There's so much good stuff here to go back and study, from both these artists.
Yeah that happened a bunch I had to make sure I let you all see it a few times at least.
I think Tom has every melody and lick that ever has and will exist in his head and can transform that, at will, to the guitar !! Never the same lick or phrase!
Guys that was so nice. Beautiful. And if that doesn't inspire a bunch of people to rush out and buy a guitar and amp, then they aren't really living!
When Brett came in and you guys started talking I thought: "It can't get more American than this".
Incredible playing btw!
Some of this is absolutely ridiculous, tears me apart the hours I've spent practicing, studying, learning & repeat for 35 years knowing I'll never be close to being this musical and fluid. On the other had, gives me so much joy to watch these 2 masters of the craft
Don't forget this is 30 plus years for each of these guys playing 10 hours a day. You got this! Just have fun and do you!
@@BrettPapa cheers man, you a star. Yeah 2 or 3 hours a day is massive difference to 10 hours a day. I appreciate your encouragement, love your vids,, big thanks for the time you take to provide the content you do, and to take time to encourage people like me and others. Much love 👍
“I don’t know anything about music….yeah just use I-IV-V triads and just create a melody. Whatever no big deal.” Basically how Mozart played just did not have to think.
You will….
Why aren’t you guys selling tickets and doing this live? People would show up.
Minnie Pearl's 335? Just kidding
Electric Spanish $1.98, the ES198. ;)
Guthrie is an absolute monster and the humility he displays is just insane to me. Tom is incredible as well.
Yeah Guthrie is an awesome human. One of my favorites!
Guthrie says, I have no idea about music LOL, Then Uncle Larry with his contagious laugh and not taking himself seriously... What a treat man!
Pure magic. Thanks for sharing, this needs to be a reoccurring get together. Som much musical gold Thanks for sharing Tom Guthrie and Brett.
I bet Sting wonders what these guys eat for breakfast. 🔥🔥🔥
😂🔥🔥🔥
Here’s the thing. When Tom said he got brutalized on his channel for shredding, those people just don’t like anything fast. When you’re as musical as Tom is, playing fast isn’t a bad thing because it’s still musical. I love Tom’s shredding/faster playing because it’s still tasty. He doesn’t become unmusical because it’s fast. That’s just stupid.
Agreed!
I agree. That was ridiculous. Tom just plays whatever comes out. He doesn't go into to a free form thinking he is gonna shred. Guaranteed he can smoke any of the complainers in any style of music after a 12 pack of rolling rock.
These two guys should without a shadow of doubt, be know as some of the best guitar players ever .
Amazing content. This is gold, right here. No amount of lick learning, for me, can take the place of just seeing a little bit into the minds of the best guitarists and musicians.
Totally agree. These two guys are top of the heap for me. World class all the way!
All the while, claiming they don't know a thing about music.
Seeing into the minds but also the soul.
I can’t imagine some of the guitar heroes of my youth doing this- some of them would even go out of their way so you couldn’t figure out what they’re playing. Here’s these monsters putting it all out for all to see and enjoy! Thanks guys, this was great
Yeah it was really great of them!
These two need to make an album together! I’d buy it in a second !
Me too!
Ditto!
Same
Sign me up!
100%
Pretty much the best thing on YT at the mo' ... SUPERB .. SUPERB
Thanks to Mr. Papa for being a great host, stepping back when the boys were lighting the world on fire. Stepping forward to add camaraderie and insight. Feels like half an album already.
Sure thing James! Was a blast! Hopefully we can get some more going in the future.
Both these guys are real deal. Not just players but real, period. The joy in Tom's face gets me everytime. He would play if he had to get hit in the head with a hammer and give you a thousands bucks for every song and count himself lucky.
If I could take a pill to achieve 1/16th of these two guys talents I'd do it. Of course I'd down the whole bottle.
Just such beautiful playing right from the gut. Thank you guys.
Two absolute masters and two of the coolest dudes ever. What a collaboration. Incredible!
Thanks for watching Clay!
Two Monsters.awesome!
Brilliant
FOCKING AWESOME!
This video RULES!
This should last forever..❤️🎸
Thanks Brett! ✌️
WOW, just WOW!!! These two together???!!! I could listen to this for the rest of my life!!!
Sure those 2 are killer players but we have to give the credit to Brett for making it happen.
Thanks Dexter! Man its a real honor to get to have cats like this come by the house!
Good god - some serious firepower here - thank you for sharing this with us -
Sure thing Matt. Two of the best around for sure!
Probably the best video I ever seen showing the workings of great guitar playing , Fantastic.
Pure musicianship flowing from two souls in joyful harmony.....
We need more of this content on you tube ..REAL PLAYERS with heart and soul!
Ohhh Lord. Just what I needed. We live in a seriously crazy world, but this gives hope that humanity and spirit still exists. THANKS
Yes it does!
Holeeeee fuck. This guys just gotta record an album together. Fuckin just improv album haha. Live improve. Fuck id buy it
They did it will be out soon! It is awesome!!!
These cats blend so well. They should do more gigs together just like this! Anyway - thanks , big fan of both
Wow. This one took my breath away. Absolutely incredible!
Tom cost you your PG rating but this is literally the most mind blowing musical thing I’ve ever seen on RUclips. I can’t believe how much musical knowledge is here. Holy moly.
Thanks Glade!
Thanks so much for sharing Tom & Guthrie together. I love both guys so much! Very tasty player & super nice person as well!
Live band vid is next! See ya soon!
@@BrettPapa Yes! Just saw a little clip on your IG post. Good job!
Amazing video! So interesting... just spent a whole hour watching without even noticing. Well done!
Wonderful. I didn't intend to watch the whole hour but I just couldn't stop.
This is some other level. What feel, what attack, what finesse, ufff ... Man
Dovydas can pick faster than finger tapping, the secret is the pick and the wrist movement, not the arm.
You could watch this 100 times and learn something new each and every time....
For sure. There is a lot packed in there.
It's the best video I've seen since the creation of YoufuckingTube!!!
Yes! That is awesome to hear. Glad you liked it!
This is freaking the most awesome guitar video I've ever seen. I have learned so much in this 56 minutes. Thank you, Brett, Tom, and Guthrie! Guthrie, you are a sponge. I wish I could pick things up as quickly as you.. you are an awesome player. And, Tom's extensive musical knowledge, technique, and talent just blows me away. How the Hell do you guys learn that much in one short life time??? Fan for life, Guys... Thank you for posting this video!
You are welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
i 've improved hugely recently, and I've got say listening to Guthrie has helped a lot . chords and scales yes, but triads and arpeggios started making me sound musical..both these guys are awesome personified
That thing of playing D major 7 or Bm7 over E7 was a big part of Wes Montgomery’s playing. Also Grant Green. You guys are great!
Thanks for watching!
Yep! And Pat Martino did something similar but with minor substitutions. Its a really useful way to see things, in as many minor and major substitutions you can impose on the changes while sounding musical
Rarely comment on these things, but......Just fucking awesome!!!
This is so utterly fantastic-a gross exhibition of talent, truly inspiring.
Glad you liked it Richard! Hopefully more to come in the near future.
So soulful! Represent Nashville! 🔥🎸
These two guys are top shelf all the way!!! They go together like P,B &J. Fantastic video...thanks for sharing this awesome music.
Sure thing!
I found the key to that fast alternate picking stuff is picking as soft & quiet as you can with only enough tension in your hand to keep the pick from falling out. It seems counterintuitive, because we assume that more speed must = more force. The only force should come from your wrist, rather than arm or fingers. If it isn't working you're using too much force or picking too deep. Watch Yngwie's right hand.
True. Yngwie's technique I still don't understand!
When the next "Best Guitar Player" list is done, all three of you should be on it. Much respect...
Like Uncle Larry's Jeff Beck quotation!
"I'm afraid to close my eyes around both you guys!" Classic! This is easily one of the best jams and lessons I've ever seen. I'm a decent picker but my lead sucks. I'll be watching this vid a bunch of times. One thing though, I wish there could've been a split-screen close-up of both players so we could see the awesome rhythm guitars as well.
36:51 sounds like King for a Day by John Scofield ! ruclips.net/video/mxiy620TibA/видео.html
Holy Smokes !!! We need a series of Tom and Guthrie albums.
That would be awesome! I know I'd buy it!
I am sorry…..but it just Does Not get any better than that…..full stop!!!
Lol! Glad you liked it!
Guthrie is the man!
Yes he certainly is!
ohhh yeah my man!!! mauri ora ki te chur!!! all the way from Otara!!!
Uncle Larry, Uncle Bob, and now Mr. Papa, your Uncle Bill. This is the best video ever on YT, it doesn’t get much more real than this fella’s, pure magic, fire up the bus with Pete Abbot, Michael Rhodes, record a live record. Thanks Uncle Bill for making this happen!!!
Lol! Well that would be awesome! I'll see if I can make that happen. You never know!
I like Guthrie's old fashioned Grolsch style strap locks :). Sometimes simple is best
This reminds me of hearing Chester and Lester for the first time. Just amazing. Thanks all of creation.
Sure thing.
So were they ripping on love the one youre with or was that just a mind fart lick at the end? I feel like I've been melodically violated and no one left me cab money
2 of the best guitar players on the planet right here.
100% agree!
before effects are added, the guitarist must be able to play!
Goodness.
When people refer to playing music as having a conversation, this is exactly what they mean. Organically playing off each other in a completely musical way that serves the song. No over playing, just music that's good to listen to. Bravo guys!
Yep they have it down! All about the music around here.
Wowzy! This is precisely what I needed today. Hats off for uploading and to my brother for sending me the link! Much love and appreciation! Peace
Sure thing!
Damn. Is this the best I'm Gonna Find Another You played?
Love the Minnie Pearl price tag on the guitar. Playing: priceless!
Buk, I see you're still courting the Mini Pearl Gibson..
