If you give entertainers too much engagement (or dip) they become complacent. Comedically pulling oneself up by the bootstraps is much more constructive.
Amazing work, boys! It was worth the wait. I’ve been dreading waking up every morning for the last 15 years but knowing we’re living in the Golden Era of comedy thanks to great comedians like Joe Rogan really turned my perspective on life around!
The Rogansphere is the greatest art movement since the Renaissance! They are philosophers, comedians, warriors, theologians, thinkers and killers! Just don't criticize them okay? That's cancel culture and it's bad mkay???
I've entirely stayed away from content gossiping on comedians, but dear gosh we need this type of honesty in comedy. If everyone's just talking behind each other's faces comedy life becomes similar to corporate. Toxic Comedy Cliques
Truly the golden age of comedy. There have never been this many room leveling, philosopher assassins who also take a barstool to pound town. And then tell us how much they idolize Carlin..
Miles, thank you for this comprehensive history lesson. This is why I tell everyone to quit school ASCAP, cuz all human knowledge you need to learn is here on RUclips for free. I never noticed, but if you think about it, a teacher is kinda like a Professional Joke Explainer, except for stuff that happened.
When I was your age, comedians had to put up with the audience and people's opinions. Things are much better now, since Joe Rogan started throwing people out the club, for being haters. I identify as an attack helicopter
Anyone that's spent even a day in the comedy world knows: The biggest misconception about standup is that a comedian's #1 job is to be funny. Not true. It's to safeguard that central pillar of American society, that which determines whether the American Dream lives or dies and, ultimately, the outcome of this little experiment we like to call "America": _the sanctity of women's sports._ What little boy hasn't dreamed about his sister playing in the WNBA? What's #2? Speaking truth to power. You guessed it: trans people! Too long have we been under the boot of the trans oligarchs. Finally it's straight white men's time in the sun! Anyway, #3 is podcasts and #4 is be funny.
Under 10k subscribers is criminal. Your delivery is so good and the smile on your face cracks me up like you can't hold it back you know you're being a shit head 😂
Vintage Comedy and Fantasy Comedy used to be my favorites after Cancel Culture Comedy and Body Comedy. But now it’s all just Can You Fight a Bear Comedy and I like that.
That was an apt summary of how lucky we are in this golden age. The new social media comedy stars are putting bums like Carlin, Hicks, and the late Silverman to shame.
This just made me sad Norm's gone. He would've thrived in this new era, sad he didn't make it through the pandemic. He would've brought so much as an old man to all these boring pods
Man you just gave me a blast from the past. I haven't thought about the Kony2012 era of comedy since deleting my Facebook. What a time to be alive. For a short time, all my friends were Kony comedians, posting new material every day. Even celebrities were in on it until that one guy dropped the mic with a naked rampage in San Diego. Could you imagine where we'd be now if Kony had won the election?
I’m a huge comedy fan. I’m afraid this comedy boom is going to ruin the genre. It’s came with some really high high’s but lately it’s been a little dicey dicey
This is incredible bc just last night I was watching Tony Hinchcliff’s new special “Garbage” which, already, gives you an ironic punchline in the title (Garbage? The special is anything but) and halfway through I literally thought, “This has to be comedy’s Golden Age.” And then I thought, “Geez I’d hate to be a struggling comic in the ‘Bronze Age’” 😂 I know I know, but I’m too old to start a career as comedian now 🫤
The algorithm can be a double-edged sword. My IG directed me to my local Mothership (it's a Helium) to see some comedy from Nick Mullens. He was okay, but I didn't understand a lot of his jokes and he didn't talk to a crowdmember once! Luckily, I think the manager knew how rough a set it was, and comped me tickets to see William Montgomery NEXT MONTH❤❤❤ Still, take those Insta ads and their fad comedians with a grain of salt, gang!
Myles Anderson, you are one of the best joke explainers working on documentaries today. Your knowledge of comedy is unprecedented, and I had no idea of its history and chronology. Thank you as well for discussing Donald J. Trump, one of the best comedians, perhaps even the best, really, the best ever, I could really say yes he's the best of the comedians working today. Phenomenal comedian. 👌
As a Brit, I have to out out that the big problem with American comedy is the complete lack of irony on display. Americans just don’t seem to be able to understand irony at all.
Myles, this video is OUTSTANDING! In the early 90's, I gave Menstruation Comedy a shot, but everyone told me that I was doing it wrong. I surely could have used your advice then! Anyway, Joe Rogan is medically small.
I clicked to comment and it said 'No small talk. Religion and politics only'. I don't know if that is a joke but I don't have a religious or political thing to say. I just want to say I think was excellently constructed and I hope your channel gets more views and subscribers.
Thanks Myles, it's really interesting how similar the traditional ranking system between stand up comedy and traditional grand sumo in Japan is. The way that a young rikishi (sumo wrestler) will rise through the unpaid divisions (Jonidan etc.) to finally reach Ozeki class, as you say is indeed replicated in the ranking system used by comedians. With only a few penetrating through that ceiling to achieve the superior, or yokozuna ranks (your Delia's, your Rogans's, your Tom Myers's). Interesting stuff - and the one thing you left out whille making your comparison was the mention of sumo. thanks
I have never been on social media, or felt a need...but have been an avid Bachelors of Music fan. I couldn't resist; God damnit. Joe Rogan medically small...geen. I continue to think about it.
Brilliant yet again. Keep producing content until your ultimate mental breakdown because you're too smart and grounded for this world, and we are all devourers of content with no direction or power
Calling Rogan “medically small” may not qualify as golden era comedy, but it’s gold.
Proof that facts can be “smexy”. That’s a Portman Toe combining the words “smelly” and “flexing”
"A mike stand a stool and relatively wealthy parents" is a bar.
I watched it twice so you could buy some chicken strips, and commented so you can buy dip.
🙏🙏🙏
If you give entertainers too much engagement (or dip) they become complacent. Comedically pulling oneself up by the bootstraps is much more constructive.
@@nicematerial his parents aren't wealthy, I think he needs some dip.
When art gets ruined by commercialism, it gets reborn and becomes brilliant again. Push Myles, push, its head is showing!
I feel like that goes for any type of art.

Miles, as a Maffia-American, I thank you for making sure our part in the history of comedy isn't forgotten!!

There is no such thing as Mafia-Americans!
Amazing work, boys! It was worth the wait.
I’ve been dreading waking up every morning for the last 15 years but knowing we’re living in the Golden Era of comedy thanks to great comedians like Joe Rogan really turned my perspective on life around!
I completely gave up on comedy when the minstrels stopped but it seems I’ve really missed out. I’m excited to catch up on all this gold I’ve missed.
The Rogansphere is the greatest art movement since the Renaissance! They are philosophers, comedians, warriors, theologians, thinkers and killers! Just don't criticize them okay? That's cancel culture and it's bad mkay???
@@pavlovsdogman comedy assassins! Where the woke meets the wall! The last bastion of free speech!!
This is incredible work. Most people suck, Myles doesn’t. As somebody who is in to Moose hunting and knives, this video really appealed to me.
Who would win in a fight, a moose or a man with a moose knife??? JRE ep. 9587
It's like a literal shower of golden era comedy!
That was medically informative. Now I’m basically a historian.
I've entirely stayed away from content gossiping on comedians, but dear gosh we need this type of honesty in comedy. If everyone's just talking behind each other's faces comedy life becomes similar to corporate. Toxic Comedy Cliques

There have never been this many room leveling, philosopher assassins who also take a barstool to pound town.

Im only 3 and half minutes in and can already tell this is GOLD. Incredible job.
How good is The Mothership right now?
Best it has ever been!

I am so grateful to be alive in this Golden Era of Comedy, all thanks to business comedians and their marvelous algorithms

Thank you! I've been saying this is Golden Era of Comedy for ages and no-one will listen to me for some reason.
I would go see some live comedy but the current roast/crowdwork era is too scary with killers like Schultz and Lucas on the loose
How is Lucas a killer? I could come up with better “roasts” than that fraud!
I wouldnt go within a mile of Aaron Shultz or Daniel Lucas

Finally. A joke understander that can actually explain to me what is funny about The Golden Era.
No mention of the great Joey “Waffle Stomp” Diaz?!?!
so sad to hear about the passing of christ rock and sarasilvermon
