This teaching method has been the most effective for me. Having the camera on screen rather than the host and seeing how to interact with the settings on the display while showing the buttons pressed, is extremely informative.

I have to let you know that I’m a film student and have been trying to understand these three settings for over a year now, and it wasn’t until this video that I felt like I understood the settings and how to use them. Thank you *so, so* much. This video made it simple and you actually _showed_ me what to do and how it all works, vs. only telling me. This is hands down the best tutorial on shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. You’re the best! I’m super excited now, since I feel like I understand this 😄

I took random shots and they looked decent making me feellike I was a pro, but I thought Im just pulling crap outta my ass right now, and better watch videos to understand things better and correctly set the settings before I screw something up 😹

DK - so sorry I missed this excellent question. I honestly do shoot on Manual most of the time. It is comfortable for me in all but the most challenging situations (bright sun in one direction and shade in another) . I suggest you try AV mode. That lets you control your aperture which is what most people care about most of the time and the camera changes the shutter speed. That is my fall back mode.

I'm doing higher photography at school and you can get away with using auto everything but I just got my own camera (on budget - eos 1300D) so of course, I want to be able to use it manually. I was finding it really difficult to understand how exposure works and how changing one thing mean you have to adjust another, but it's much much clearer now. Thank you!

I have been trying to learn these three things for 2 yrs. now and it seems so confusing to me until you explained it simply enough even I could understand. I was frustrated and just stayed on auto. I did not know to look at the settings in Aplus setting first and go from there. That will help so much so I at least have a clue of where to start from. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to more of your tutorials.

This is the best way to explain it. Way better than every video I have come across.

I want to say thank you for all your videos. I am new to DsLR and I'm learning a lot with your tutorials.
I recently purchased the T5i. When I'm in Manual, I set up my exposure and at times I cannot take the picture. I press the shutter but it would not take it. The exposure simulation icon keeps blinking. I have to exit and look through the view finder to take the picture. Why is this?

PhotoRec TV what lens was used on this camera you're demonstrating in the video?

Thank you so much. I've gone through many videos and a lot of them don't set examples. Just talk. Before this, I had no idea whatsoever about any of this. I always shoot auto. Maybe I'll be daring and try it out. I love to shoot close ups of nature mostly.

ok - watched both. I think NG is using just the kit lens with her 60D. You can get great results with the T4i and a 40mm f/2.8 or the kit lens but the kit lens will need more light in the room. There are lighting options too for $100-$200 that you might consider. Too bad there is no way to turn off the Nikon's auto focus while filming. You could try putting it further away and then zooming some so you fill more of the frame, it should get less confused then.

Yes this is helpful. Ive been watching every single video for the Rebel Xsi and i even figured out the Rebel 450 D has a digital view. Besides that you gave me all the information in one amazing video. Unlike everyone else who been using TV and AV i needed Manual instructions and thats what you provided. My pictures came out better then ever.

Sometimes i see photographers use the shutter to make everything blurry or looks like a ghost and there's only one abject that isn't can make a video about that ? It would be great for beginners like me. Also I don't know what they actually call it so I hope i gave you the right information

Slow the shutter speed, so the light and movement have more time to enter the lens.
