Awesome tip on skiving the corners first and remarking your lines! I was wondering how you were going to know where your trim allowance was after you skived it off 😅 ingenious!
It's amazing, how can I make such a sharp knife, what type of steel is it best suited for? but I really suffer every time I work, it always takes me an hour to trim the leathers

2 questions: What book is this? I can't read the cover! Haha And Can you rebind Bibles that aren't Smyth sewn? Like a glued binding? Mahalo from Hawaii! 🤙🏾
Hey brother I'm about to start getting in to a leather working hobby but I don't want to spend a huge amount of money straight out of the gate. Do you have some essential tools to recommend that would get me started?
It's interesting that you cut more away from the spine so as to prevent any damage to the spine. Other videos I've seen, the rebinder will cut close to the crease between the block and the cover. I'm hoping that you'll show in a subsequent video what you do with that little flap that you have left attached to the block. Do you glue that down underneath the liner before attach the liner flaps to the block? Thanks for the video
@@frostLeather it looks like you left about a half an inch or so of a flap from cutting the block out of the existing cover. I understand the logic is so that you leave the block spine intact. Do you cut that flap off even more when you've removed the block or glue it down to be the cover when you're casing in the block? I'm wondering because on other videos I've seen the block cut out with maybe an 1/8 inch away from the fold. I may not be explaining it well..... sorry for that
@@nbccrome6862 If you cut the block away from the cover too close, you'll have to add more reinforcements. the Bible will fall apart if there isn't some sort of material wrapping the spine and bleeding over the flyleaf's.
@@frostLeather at 2:57 you measured the wrap mark height and at 3:09 the thickness. How/when does the two different measurements come in to play? I know there's a reason for it but I'm new to rebinding and don't understand.
oh I see. The thicker the Bible the more yapp. Makes sense. If I could ask a follow up? How do you add the thickness of the block dimension to figuring your yapp? If the total width including the spine is 10" do you take half of the block thickness to get the amount of yapp you want (say if you're doing a full yapp)? Hope that makes sense. I was just wondering because I thought i heard some other rebinders adding a standard inch and a half to the total width to get the cover dimensions. Sorry, I think I've asked more than one question and on probably confusing the matter. 😊
Little bit of moisture will help skive that thinner stretchier leather.
Thanks for the video!
These videos are cool - keep doing them!!
Very cool. Watched all 3 parts. I am wishing to get into rebinding bibles. It is only an idea in my head but it seems like a rewarding skill.
Excellent Video, excited for the future parts of this process !
Solid tutorial. Clearly the rebind process is an art.
Great stuff, man. Saw on IG and have been trying to learn.
Dude these videos are awesome man

You are so welcome!
@@frostLeatherif I wanted you to connect 3 books of the church fathers writings to back of a bible and to create a cover , how much would ur charge

Yes I do, send us an email.
I had never heard of a skiving knife. Must be German for "sharpened piece of steel..."
Hello brother, when you have the chance can you please upload (Part 2) as that step is missing. God Bless!

@@frostLeather God Bless. Trying my hand. Thank you for your diligence and generosity.
If you don't mind what is the normal thickness of the leather that you buy for covers?
Around 1oz

You certainly can rebind bibles that are glued

Hello! Thanks for the video. Where do you order your leather from?
Siegel Leather, eBay, Etsy.
@@frostLeather sweet! Thanks!
@@frostLeatherhello again, I ordered some leather from Siegel and didn’t get a confirmation email or anything. Is that normal?
I really interested in doing this with my own personal paperback book! Is there an item list you’d recommend for me?
I have many videos on supplies and tools :)

I’m not sure I understand the question.

@@frostLeather thanks for taking time to explain. I look forward to the next video.
When/where will it make a difference when the block height is different than the spine height?
I’m not sure I understand the question.

The spine measurement is part of the overall cover length. The thickness measurement is for the yapp

@@nbccrome6862 Its quite simple actually; I take the width of the Bible, and I Divide it in half, there's your yapp length!
Nice 🙂
Thanks 😋
Hiya Frost. can you rebind a hardcover bible? by the way great videos!
I certainly can, I’m currently working on 10 hardback editions :)
is there a simpler way to measure out the yapp length?
There is not, that is as simple as it can be done.
