My bible started falling apart , tried hot gluing, didn't work, tried tape obviously didn't work and got totally called out for it when I found this video. 🤣 Thankfully I didn't reach the "point of no return " and was able to watch this video and followed along. Happy to say I've successfully fixed my own bible !!

My wife had a bible she dearly loved and as she's a real note taker, it was filled wih YEARS of annotations. The cover separated on one side and we were thinking of getting it rebound. In looking on the web, we came across this and it was just what i needed. I ordered the materials and just now finished re-attaching the cover to her bible. It will be waiting for her when she gets home. Thanks SO much!

My English-Spanish Bible fell apart. It was unusable. My wife gave this to me as a Christmas present in 2006. I have used it extensively in Cuba and daily here in the USA. It was with me on three occasions in Peru. I followed your instructions, and my old Bible now sits back on my desk! Thanks for the lesson on rebinding my Bible!

Thank you so much for pointing out the extra space to allow movement when it opens! I think I may be binding mine too tight or too close to the spine, especially for the thicker leather I've been trying. I'm probably putting undue strain on the block where the liner tabs attach. The physics are hard for me to predict precisely, and by the time you can see how it turned out, the glue is set.

Thank you, that is a very helpful video. I was really disappointed after taking my bible from my teens to a local Christian publisher, and they really just used tape (all over some of the quotes I'd written in the endpapers!!! I have another preaching bible, that you've inspired me to have a go fixing. Your sound was just fine by the way, thank you, and blessings back to you!
One question: The preaching bible still to be repaired has no stitched signatures, just a whole lot of pages all glued together... except for when they have come apart. There are a few individual pages in the middle of the two main sections. I plan to use bookcloth on it as you've shown. Any suggestions on how to ensure the individual pages are glued in? It was a gift from the church at the time, and is sentimental for that reason.

Thank you for sharing this information. Your work is exceptional! My bible has this "classic" break that you mention and I want to repair it myself. It is an Oxford University Press Scofield bible that I got in 1982. All of the pages and signatures are in good shape, just a complete break on the back cover between the cover sheet and the bible paper. Will the repair method be the same for my Oxford as it is for your Cambridge in this video? Thanks!

    • @mdz0739

I know you are busy and it's the Christmas holidays as well. I repaired my bible using this method with a few differences due to the fact that it isn't a pit minion binding. I went 1/2" on each side of the binding with the book cloth and craft paper and for the cover, I used the bone folder to separate the end sheet material from the cover 1/2" deep in order to attach the new binding. I glued both sides of the paper and cloth instead of just one side because mine doesn't have the 3/16" gap. After gluing and putting it in the press, it is like new. I also had some signatures that I thought I was going to have to glue together from the inside after putting on the cover but the new binding fixed them as well. Thank you again for taking the time to put these videos together. It is such great help! God bless you!

Good job I have a local church Bible publishers 180 with a synthetic liner and it's starting to crack next to the text block whats your take on synthetic liners it seems to me that they're not really made to last that long what's your take on Pace down paper liners vs. Synthetic liners what do you like better? Thank you

    • @frostLeather
      @frostLeather  8 месяцев назад

Some synthetic liners, like LCBP uses, are of great quality. Like Cambridge bibles that have synthetic liners, they last. Any material on a bible, if taken care of will last. Bible covers fail because when they are drying out, to prevent this some leather oil will greatly help, but once it begins to fail it is too late unfortunately.

    @frostleather Hey jermiah I have a question...
So on the book spine when removing the old ribbon and taking of the extra material do you usually not remove the old glue? And if so why do you not? I have been rebinding bibles for only 6 months and I was told to remove that old glue. It would definitely save me on a step if I didn't have to.
Also where do you get your ribbons? Thanks!!

I think you are instructing everyone the HARD way to fix a "simple fix"..
that is a clean break IMO... the text block of the bible is still held together... no pages falling out..
that bible can be fixed in 15 minutes or less.. using a small tube of "liquid nail".. a pair of vice grips.. and a clean towel or rag..
first of all open up the bible like you have it.. then run a squirt of "liquid nail".. along the binding...close the bible back up tightly.. making sure that the cover and binding are fit snugly.. NO wiggle room.. use the vice grips and towel or rag.. around the gilded edge side of the bible and clamp it tight to assure.. that the fit stays snug the cover right up against the binding with NO air pockets.... the towel.. is to make sure the vice grips do not leave a vice grip mark on the soft leather cover... since that will have to be clamped TIGHT.. VERY TIGHT.. so there is no slippage..
allow to sit.. about 20-24 hours... remove the grips and towel,.. that little bit of "give" you spoke about.. will eventually work it's way back in with moderate use..
I have fixed the bindings on dozens of bibles this way.. and they all look brand new...
let's not make this job complicated for amateurs...

I understand that but ....can't the easy way ALSO be the right way?..
I just got another USED bible just today.. and the leather on 2 of the corners was unraveling... and where the maps were attached in the back of the bible... they were pulling away from the cover...the spine was visible...
this was an NASB single column Lockman Foundation.. genuine leather from 2008...
Not quite the same quality as "the Judge".. from 2002... but it is still a fairly nice bible...
I was able to tuck the unraveled corners... under the inside binding and held them in place using some of that "liquid nail".. which I mentioned... first...
it looks brand new... and I did not have to use a needle and thread to re-stitch.. nor did I need to pull the binding completely away from the cover just to work on a couple of corners..
as for the map area... I placed a needle point nozzle onto the tube of "liquid nail".. and carefully pulled the binding a little out.. so I could squirt.. a narrow line of this from the top to the bottom.. of the bible.. NOT over doing it...
I then squeezed the bible back into place...making sure the binding and cover were snug together... and let everything harden.
I then added 2 more bible ribbons..
I would hold this bible up against anything.. You have fixed.. and let you try to find fault with it...
Like I said.. a bible fix does Not have to be done the hard way.
I don't think a bible has to be completely torn down.. and re-done.. to have the bible tight and new looking again....
and every bible I have patched. .looks like it did when it came from the factory...
I have a little OCD... I get bothered even if the gilding on the pages is a little off...
this causes me to be very picky about what the end product looks like..

That is my biggest goal one day... is to make helpful videos... and to share some insights...
at this time... I do not have the equipment.. in order to do the videos ..I also have Not figured out how to upload videos from my.... I Phone to the internet. .I suppose I could make some videos on my phone and upload them to people in a text message to their phones.. though...
I may ask a buddy of mine who Has uploaded videos to the internet..to help me get that started..,
was there anything in particular you wished to see.. how to do?..or had questions on?..
One thing you should remember... in many cases a bible.. that has a bonded leather cover...sometimes cannot be fixed properly without replacing it... be cause the binding either tears or starts falling apart any way,..
about any bible I have endeavored to spend time on to fix.. has had a cover on it that was created to last more than a lifetime originally...
most of my bonded leather covered bibles.. I have shelved and am only using Leather covered ones now..
I have NOT done a full re-bind.. nor do I think I would ever try something that extensive. .since that involves a lot of material ....... .and cutting and measurements...
but.. I can do the light fixes.. such as adding ribbons.. and fixing covers .and bindings.. pages...loose headers...

I think I can repair my bible; but the thingy with the boards (like a vise grip) might prevent me from doing this. Thank you for your video and may God richly bless you and your family.
GOD'S BLESSINGS TO ALL NATIONS AND PEOPLES
    Mark 16:15
Gospel! The good news about Jesus Christ and salvation from judgment on our sins. Jesus dined with His disciples the night before He went to the cross. Mark 14:22-25. Jesus and His disciples were eating a Passover meal together at the Last Supper. After partaking of bread and wine (His body and His blood), the Bible mentions the hymn Jesus sang with His disciples. “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” Mark 14:26. What were they singing on such an occasion? PRAISE! Psalms 113-118.
    THE GOOD NEWS
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." John 14:6
Jesus Christ loves us! We believe this! John 3:16-17. We believe Him and who He is! He is our Savior! GOD THE SON! ONLY HE SAVES.
Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast."
JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE FOR US AND LIVES AGAIN!
1 Corinthians 15: 3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
Blood coming from his body, NAKED, hanging on that cross like Roman torture weapon! What a Lord God and Savior! He had to. HE is God the Son. Only His sinless blood could pay for all our sins. 1 John 2:1-2.
He died on our behalf! We believe in Him and who He is, trusting the shedding of His blood as payment for ALL our sins, and His burial and resurrection from the dead the third day for our eternal life! John 20:24-31. HE LIVES EVERMORE!
We can live forever through Him. God forgives our sins through Him otherwise our sins will prevent us from living in Glory with Him and our family in the faith the Bible describes. We study to show ourselves approved in wisdom and further truths about Him! We are in a family! God's family. CHRIST'S BRIDE! We got to know Jesus Christ better and better!
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more than, now justified by his blood, we will be saved from wrath through him."
    HE LIVES! JESUS LIVES!
