Dude, this video is perfectly timed! I've been gathering the materials I believed would be needed and was going to search RUclips for tutorials next. God is so good!!
Archival ink works great because it’s waterproof. Other inks would come off on your hands if you perspire at all or if the Bible somehow got wet.
Your teachings about binding and rebinding are awesome. I will probably never try to do it, but it is always good to learn the hows and the whys.
I love watching you work. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you Jeremiah. I’ve changed ribbons in several of my bibles and that is going well. That tape idea is excellent! Peace my friend✌🏻
So excited for this video!!
I actually like the blotchy look after art guilding is add to worn gold guilding.
You do amazing work! Beautiful!
Great video.
Thanks!
I have been doing all of this to bibles for several years and have found other inks that work well. Delicata makes beautiful shiny ink. I love their Pink Shimmer on burgundy bibles and their Rose Gold on blue or brown bibles. Brillance makes good shiny ink as well---love their Rocket Red Gold. Memento also has good ink---especially in pastel colors that look nice with silver gilt.
Extremely helpful. Thank You
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful, learned new tricks... thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
In the video you said Berisfords ribbons, but the link in the description is for Ribbli ribbons. Do you use Ribbli ribbons? And if you do are they decent?
THANK YOU! I've looked for this sort of tutorial, and came up lacking, in fact slightly damaged a REB new testament following poor technique and tools. Excited to try this on another NT i have. Unrelated: I want to rebind a Clarion; is there any advatage to starting with an edge lined copy vs. a paste down (and cheaper) version? Thank you and all the best to your ministry in California. (I spent many weekends nearby in Coloma)
Glad it helped!
Could you do a video on how to.change out the paper paste down liner to a vinyl one on a trutone/synthetic leather? I have a good new trutone but the paper liner is going to tear soon. Confused about how the vinyl would attach to the block and whether or not you keep part of the paper liner or not.

You made it look so easy. Love the look I have a soft cover book that doesn’t have a cover like this where I could add ribbons like you did here. Is there any way you could think of doing it that wouldn’t look like a DIY gone wrong??
Not sure what you mean by DIY gone wrong? lol
What would your advice be for gilding a Bible that came plain white edges?
No difference, except you won’t wipe page edges down. May still have to wipe the top page a bit.
What he said :)
Does anyone know if there is a way to untrain a yap? I have a chant 53 with an overly trained yap
That is an impossibility my friend
Would have been easier to use tape?
Yes.
Interesting video but I have to respectfully disagree with the way you did the ribbons. They should never overlap and should be glued to the spine before inserting the headband. Not so much bulk that way.
Why shouldn’t they overlap?
Only way to fit 3 in is to overlap them, many professional bible makers do this same thing, it causes no issues. Yes, you should use glue, the was an easy DIY method, the whole point of the video.
