- Virginia vs. Duke: The top-ranked Duke Blue Devils were able to hold on and beat the 4th ranked Virginia Cavaliers 72-70. Though both teams were ineffective from 3, they both shot over 50% for the game. Freshman RJ Barrett scored 30 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Zion Williamson also had another outstanding game, scoring 27 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. For Virginia, De'Andre Hunter led them in scoring with 18 points.

Uva fans are not cocky..we have no name players..mostly non athletic guys..matter of fact no great player in his right mind would want to play for UVA because most hate the style of play..the coach is great yet stubborn and refuses to adjust ... in spite of this we still find a way to beat and challenge a team of NBA first round picks in the ACC...lol

Tre's shown countless times this season why he's so important, so I'm really impressed that they managed to pick it up without him there, particularly with the fact that Cam went back into his shooting shell again. Zion & RJ came up big this time out and did a great job of holding the team together, I think RJ also showed how effective he can be without over shooting the ball as well.

@@tkp4154 There were at least four clearly incorrect calls that went in UVA's favor. In the first half, Bolden got a nice block but they called it goaltending even though the ball was still going up (I guess they didn't think he could jump that high or something?). Then there was the time when a UVA player kicked the ball out of bounds, but the Cavs got the ball back. And arguably the worst was when DeLaurier fouled out even though he got charged. Like he was probably standing still for like 5 seconds and the Virginia guy still ran him over and got the call. Not to mention the vast majority of controversial calls that could have gone either way ended up going Virginia's way.
And by the way, if you ignore the tactical fouls at the end of the game when UVA was trying to come back, the refs actually called more fouls against Duke.
Stop pretending like Duke won because of the refs. If anything, Duke would have won by more if the refs had made the correct calls.

Gg to duke but those refs were awful. Every time ziondrives to the basket they call a foul. Zion is amazing but 80% of the fouls there was no contact. Also UVA okayed a lot worse than normal missing most of this shots. Kyle guy for example normally will make 6 threes in a game. Today he made 1 in the 2nd half. I personally feel something was wrong with guy, injury idk
UVA shot over 50%, and a ton of contested shots went in, even though they normally wouldn't. Remember Guy's contested fade away three in the first half? That was pretty lucky.

@@SimplEnigma24 Yeah, he can often just fight through these fouls, but they're still fouls. Just because he's so good at driving that he often can't be stopped even with a foul doesn't mean that the rules should be ignored.
@Matthew DeBartolo That's true. I think Duke had like four or five times as many offensive rebounds in the first half. Duke simply had more possessions, which is why they were able to take the lead even though they weren't as lucky with their shots going in as Virginia.
Not only did Virginia foul a lot on Duke drives, they were very whiny about it. For instance, the Kyle Guy foul on RJ Barrett. Guy leans in and shoves RJ, then brings his arm down on him, then holds his arm up straight after the whistle like it was a bad call. It wasn’t, he just couldn’t guard RJ.

It's college basketball. That's what happens! I'd watch for the suspect, soon-to-be-ranked number 1 Vols in Nashville Wednesday. The way they are playing defense, their days are numbered too. Barely eeked by the unranked Tide at home; needed a questionable travel call to keep from possibly losing at the buzzer. Arkansas out scored them in the second half the game before that, and just barely got by the Gators in Gainesville. Barnes keeps telling everyone they need to play better; they're not playing all that good despite their record and the buzz; everyone ignores him, but he's spot on. If Vandy doesn't get them as an 0-4 SEC team, WV might next Saturday in Knoxville or South Carolina the following week, as a 4-1 team, but I'd say it's coming soon. Duke may be back on top before their fans realize it. I'm a Vols fan, but men's D1 is so competitive; almost all winning programs either lose intensity or inspire other teams to new heights with that number beside their names, and it takes just a little loss of focus to lose. It's just how it goes in this sport. You go up, you get shot down. What happens in March is what really counts. You just have to win enough to get there with a high seed and then play great. That's almost always Calipari's prescription to a season; they're gaining strength again this year as anyone might have predicted; just beat ranked Auburn in Auburn. His method sometimes doesn't work out, because it takes them too long in the season to get going, but one thing's for sure...he'll have them playing well by seasons end. UT's got them twice and Auburn at their place this year. These two ACC teams are amazing and what an exciting game and wonderful atmosphere. I just watched the highlights and couldn't figure out how the roof didn't come down in Durham!

They played Zion soft, they played TERRIBLE defense as a whole, and they settled for jump shots the whole game. What a terrible performance.
