Eye of Illusion is the closest thing we will get. It works will Spellcasters and Illusion monsters. The card was played by Pegasus in episode 2 of the anime against yugi.
Always good to see a new type of monster, it brings new strategies. Not only that but I look forward of old school cards getting new retrains as Illusion monsters.
excited for the future of archetypes with this monster type in combination with chimera! if it gets another archetype other than generic illusion at least
Hearing about these new Illusion Type Monsters made my mind immediately think of a _Mirage Knight_ Retrain. Illusion Type is practically made for the card.
Illusionist gives them an opportunity to retread Ruka's monsters from 5Ds. A lot of them were fairies, plants and beasts; you could retread a lot of them under the Illusionist type now, amd just have the new effects lock you into light Illusionist and Dragon monsters, to accommodate AFD and any upgraded form AFD might get.
@@kryzethx That's what I mean, although I guess it wouldn't technically be a retrain, since I don't think any of Ruka's cards from the anime actually got printed in the OCG/TCG
Fusion Armament seems REALLY good for setting up an OTK because if you can recycle the card or recycle the chimera fusion, you can "Fusion climb" through multiple copies of Chimera Illusion to get like a 4+ attack Chimera and just go for game
The obvious cards that'd suit potential Illusion retrains as Relinquished & associated cards, but I'd like to throw out that Toons themselves fit the notion of Illusion monsters quite well. Their manga/ anime gimmick was being indestructible as long as Toon World survives, and their original shared effects when printed were summoning sickness, an LP cost to attack, and being able to attack directly so long as the opponent doesn't have a Toon. Illusions are indestructible in battle as are whatever they fight, so this fits neatly with Toon's direct attacking & in-story battle protection (the only part that doesn't fit is not being able to destroy other monsters by battle).
Chimera monsters have a certain cool factor, no question. Not sure how the new Illusion archetype connects with the classic concept of magical illusions based on the abilities shown, however. And on a side note: "Coatl" is pronounced CO-AH-TULL.
I tried this deck on master duel with the triangle battle. It was really good for going second ! Especially the loop: -Discard coatl to add swordknight -use fusion armament to put the old fusion -normal summon sword knight Usually once you arrived there, you have enough effects to pass most boards... Coatl in GY prevents from targeting, swordknight summons berfomet to add the 2 last cards and can negate a monster on voard, and the 3 other cards in hand usually help to finish the board (not to mention the 2 cards you're adding by summoning berfomet) The chimera fusion is especially good since it adds draw power and destroy a lot of cards on the board, bot to pention gazelle and berformet have an effect when used to summon it so you can chain block and it is untargetable if you have poly in GY. I faced a red archfiend dragon deck which had at least 5 interrupts (the synch 9 archfiend dragon, the bystial synch, ash, imperm, the continuous trap) and won
This somehow feels like an engine. Would have to be for a fusion deck that doesn't need it's normal summon but getting rid of 1 card from your opponents hand and putting up 2 negates while only using 1 card in hand doesn't sound bad.
it is interesting seeing a new type that got an actual gimmick to it (cyberse only had a gimmick of being link monster focused), the main hope it does not just become an illusion pile deck but can also archetype to not create anouther dinosaur
It looks fun as they basically work similarly to Timelords. However, I don't understand why they are an archetype and not a monster category just like Spirit, Flip and Union. Archetypes are just reflections of the monster's physiology and don't have the same effect shared across their peers - that's what monster categories do, e.g.: Spirit monsters having to be Normal Summoned and returning to the hand or Flip monsters having effect activations when being turned up. We could argue that the Zombie archetype often has effects which are related to the graveyard, Pyro monsters potentially having a burn effect and Psychic monsters requiring Life Points to activate an effect but those effects aren't the exact same and don't apply to every monster of that archetype either.
A field spell like zombie world could be really busted in this archetipe. You can set it up, superpolly the field away into the big chimera, get in for a shitone of damage and win in the spot
Surprised we didn't get a TCG exclusive Illusion monster revealed (although tbh they haven't even shown a new Illusion monster in Age of Overlord at the OCG sooo)
Man I just remember the first 3 decks released back when I was a kid . Joeys deck, yugis deck, and Kaibas deck. (Hope I spell the names right been a min) but the nightmare magician reminded me of dark magician and I respect they made a illusion version
Branded Fusion with Gazelle into Rindbrumm to search Swordsman then sac it for Berfomet, get Kitt, and chimera fusion. SS Kitt, get Branded in Red, fusion kitt and berfomet into Chimera King. It's a pretty good combo off of 1 Branded fusion, and I've been doing that combo for a while now :) it's really fun.

They are going to have to do something about all the hand traps and existing meta tier 1 decks that win the game almost instantly if do you not stop them. Most games don't even reach the battle phase, it's going to be hard to have a new type of monsters that their ability is related to battle.

regarding the pronunciation of coatl, yeah it's koh-ah-tl, but the tl in coatl is a fun sound that doesn't exist in english. y'know how, to make a t sound, you block airflow with your tongue, build up pressure, and letting up the tongue makes that sound? well, if you try to do that but you keep the tip of the tongue on the roof of your mouth like you do with L, and release the pressure by moving the body of the tongue back instead so air can go through your cheeks around your tongue, it makes the tl in coatl. it's cool c:

So… reminds me of the Gaia support from a while back, but with yet another of Yugi’s monsters and actually has ways to interact with the opponent and has a way to recover from a board wipe.
I feel like these cards are perfect examples why Yugioh would benefit from keywords it’d save a whole lot of space if they just didn’t have to right all that battle destruction stuff on each illusion monster
Thats never going to change unfortunately cuz then Konami would have to reprint every single card in existence which is not feasible and would probably make all the older prints lose their value completely
Doug said it himself before that he doesn't like to discuss too much whether a card gonna be bad or good in the game. Always appreciate that from him. Kinda what I like about his videos of new set tho. What a great konami employee
Coatl is pronounced like the English word coat, but after the 't' sound you let air out of your mouth with your tongue touching the roof of your mouth (not a phonetic used in English). It's a Nahuatl (pronounced nah-hwat[air sound]) word and you'd probably be fine just saying "coat" if you don't want to learn a new sound to make with your mouth; pronouncing the 'l' like an English 'l' is usually seen as the most cringy option when trying to pronounce words with the 'tl' sound, so coat-ull is probably the worst option, whatever you choose. Also fun fact: the little salamanders that Gentlemander is based off of are axolotls which is also a Nahuatl word! It's perhaps best pronounced a-SHOW-lote with English phonetics (you would also have to learn the Nahuatl 'x' sound if you wanted to pronounce it 100% accurately).
You could already do that sort of thing with Fusion Deployment, but the main difference for this card is that it can summon monsters from the Extra Deck
They've added so many new types they should add a new attribute instead. I also think they should open up divine beast type and divine attribute to other monsters than the gods. But they can keep the gods special if they want by leaving them as the only monsters to be both divine attribute and divine beast type. Others will be divine attribute and have a normal type like spellcaster or warrior and others will be divine beast type but be dark attribute or light or fire attribute for example. They can make the new hypothetical attribute the opposite of divine since all attributes have an opposite.
I mean there is only a certain number of elements, what would you add on to the 7 attributes we have? The opposite of divine maybe, what would that be called?
The Wicked, the Sacred Beasts, and the Aesir were originally DIVINE in their respective canons, but Konami changed it likely because other monsters based on deities were not DIVINE.
The opposite of divine could be Abyssal and type being abyssal, dreadful or pagan beast as to represent the "fake divinity" and make the Egyptian god cards the true deities of the game maybe? 🤔
Personally I think they should have just made illusion a sub type instead of a main type. You know, like toon, spirit, gemini, union, tuner, etc. They all or mostly have that ability of neither monsters being destroyed by battle so just make illusion a sub type with that universal effect.
Cmiiw, you can use branded fusion with albaz and gazelle to summon lindwurm then search 1 illusion monster out of eff of gazelle.. seems pretty nice tech for branded
With lots of archetypes having cards like Mirror Knight to stop effects going off, Black Rose Dragon desperately needs new upgrades with inspiration from RDA, BW, etc.
I would rather they become some shared type atem representation. like chimera, magnet warriors, dark magician, poker knights, they were artwork similar stat illusionists.
5:00 I just realized the fusions dont have the "also counts as a phantom beast" part from the earlier translations. I think the original chimera is supposed to have Phantom Beast in its japanese name (or whatever words they use for the archetype in japan). So do these cards still count as phantom beasts?
There aren't enough restrictions to the fusions. A quick play spell that gives no restrictions to the rest of the extra deck types sounds prime for exploit. Being able to pop a card AND take control of another monster with no other restrictions sounds too abusable too.
I think a new chimera archetypal card as a replacement for polymerization would be a big benefit to the deck (yes, I know the have one), it might make people run the OG fusion materials if it wasn't just vanilla poly. OG Berfomet into a normal poly is so meh.
Oh no, Arcana Force 0 - The Fool just got extra extra extra powercrept

I’m surprised this video didn’t even mention the New Berfomet Fusion that Came Out! No recognition what so ever for the Lvl 6 Multi Attacker!
It's weird to not see ©1996 Kazuki Takahashi on the cards now
He speaks so fast they call him cocaine zeef
I feel like "Illusion" type monsters are somehow related to the old games "Dream" type monsters.
With lots of archetypes having cards like Mirror Knight to stop effects going off, Black Rose Dragon desperately needs new upgrades with inspiration from RDA, BW, etc.
Might use Chimera for my Branded deck.

Looks at the fusion's materials... Fabled support?
There aren't enough restrictions to the fusions. A quick play spell that gives no restrictions to the rest of the extra deck types sounds prime for exploit. Being able to pop a card AND take control of another monster with no other restrictions sounds too abusable too.
I think a new chimera archetypal card as a replacement for polymerization would be a big benefit to the deck (yes, I know the have one), it might make people run the OG fusion materials if it wasn't just vanilla poly. OG Berfomet into a normal poly is so meh.
