Should point out that "If this card battles a monster, neither monster is destroyed" effect actually does have an origin in the anime and manga. During Pegasus and Yugi's first duel in the anime, when Illusionist Faceless Magician and Dark Magician battled against each other, Pegasus used the Eye of Illusion spell card to make it so neither monster was destroyed by battle. The fact that the card designers were able to pull a gameplay mechanic out of something that was over two decades old at that point is just wild to me.

I love how the 4 phantom beasts were completely ignored, they are part of the same archetype and also technically part of the mecha-phantom beasts as well
Fun Fact: The 4 Phantom Beasts have the same stats and effects as the White Knight cards Chazz used during his duel with Jaden while he was a member of the Society of Light
I always enjoyed watching Yugi play those cards and now seeing them in their own Fusion themed archetype ( my favorite kind ) I couldn’t ask for more! Definitely making sure to get them all.

Definitely a favourite archetype of mine, I love how they handled the new Chimera cards and the flavour and designs of all the new Illusion monsters are so cool.

8:46 The Romaji for this card comes out to be "Kornfirudo Koatoru" and "Koator" was just a mistranslation of "Coatl" that got shortened because of card name space limitations!
You know it a shame that celtic guardian mystical elf and feral imp never got within the Chimera Archetype also love how your doing yugi deck spawns first before moving on to other decks
For real, Obnoxius Celtic Guardian fits right in with the whole aspect of the "If this card battles an Opponent's Monster, neither are destroyed by Battle", considering the original was about surviving bigger monster attacks and Yugi notoriously led with the card, only for it to lose its encounters
Aesthetically i think a retrain of Feral Imp would have worked better than the Mirror Knight for Chimera support. Mirror Knight can definitely stay as generic Illusion Support
Celtics Guardian probably never had a chance to get picked as Chimera support to begin with. Except for the Fiend-Alignment Berfomet, all of the retrains for the Chimera archetype are connected by virtue of having the Dreams alignment in the games they appear in, Dreams being the localized version of what is known as Illusion Magic in Japan. Cornfield Coatl and Mirror Swordknight were chosen because they're constructed cards from Dark Duel Stories with the Dreams alignment, and they were likely picked over the others due to having very striking visual designs, since a lot of the other constructed Dreams monsters have similar or inferior stats to them, or have awkward levels and stat combinations. There are other cards originating as retrains of older cards that weren't covered in this video, but all of them also had Dreams alignment in the games (Tao and Golgoil) to justify Illusion retrains.
Man i love re-trains of classic cards we saw in the anime so nostalgia. Konami def needs to make cards about Greek mythology one of my favorites mythos
Can you really count Archfiends? I mean, Yugi only ever played 2 Archfiends in his deck. Sure, the manga seemed to imply Summoned Skull was his original ace monster in his first duel with Kaiba, but it never got much in the way of special treatment after that beyond being "one of Yugi's strong monsters who isn't Dark Magician." Then it got replaced by Gilfer in Battle City and didn't get another mention until the anime version of Yugi and the Pharoah's last duel.
This gives me an idea for a fusion retrain of “Wall of Illusion”, “Castle of Dark Illusions” and “Labyrinth Wall”: _Labyrinth Wall Castle of Darkest Illusions_ (DARK) Level 12 Pendulum Scales: 13⬅️➡️0 _If this card would be placed in your Pendulum zone by card effect: You can Special Summon it instead, and if you do, it gains the following Pendulum Effects as Monster Effects. At the beginning of every Phase: Increase your LP, and the ATK/DEF of all monsters you control, by 200. If your opponent summons a monster with 1600 or less ATK or DEF: Destroy it._ Illusion/Fusion/Pendulum/Effect “Labyrinth Wall” + “Castle of Dark Illusions” + “Illusion Wall” _This card can attack directly while in Defense Position. If it does, apply its ATK for damage calculation. If this card would be Special Summoned, you can instead place it into your Pendulum Zone, and if you do, it gains the following Monster effects as Pendulum Effects. If a monster you control battles a monster, neither can be destroyed by that battle. If a monster you control is attacked, or you are attacked directly, after damage calculation: Return that attacking monster to its owners hand._ ATK/3700 DEF/5000
"They project illusions, as they are illusions of themselves." I honestly prefer to see that the Phantom Beast Archetype is based on one of the most iconic monsters from Dungeons & Dragons: Displacer Beast. This monster has a unique effect that it can create a double image of itself, making it hard to hit and pin down. However, this monster's hide is highly sought after by many adventurers, considering how that effect can be crafted into a Displacer Cloak, giving you the same effect as a Displacer Beast when the hood is up, forcing Disadvantage when you are attacked. The whole archetype using 'illusions', falls in line with this.
The illusion deck became my most fav deck of All time, and the New Chimera/berfomet fusion cards became my most fav fusion cards ever, soo thx for the upload😊

A great new archetype would combine Celtic Guardian, Soldier of Stone, Mystical Elf and Big Shield Gardna. It would be a kind of “best offense is a good defense” deck due to their high defense and obnoxious’ anti-destruction ability. Thanks to ReviewBotAI for the idea to add Gardna.
Aside from the Magnet Warriors, these were some of my favorite cards in Yugi's deck and so surprised when these support cards came out. I never thought they would do it.
Really curious if anyone has tried combining these different archetypes together (DM, Gaia, BLS and now Phantom Beasts) to try and make a modern version of Yugi's deck. It would be a barely playable hodge podge due to many of the cards not working together, but it would be fun to see lol
It wouldn't be great. Though while it may seem like cheating, you could combine BLS with any of the others just by using the Link monster BLS - Soldier of Chaos to represent the BLS archetype. A Link 3 that needs 3 materials has to be worth using but Soldier of Chaos being able to get Dragoon level protection just as long as one of the materials is a Level 7 or higher monster is worth it. And it starts with 3k ATK which you can keep stacking so it becomes even more difficult to deal with.
You know what monster I think should get his own Archetype? The Witty Phantom. I don't know why, but the Witty Phantom is one of my nostalgic cards in Yu-Gi-Oh. And yeah, he's not the best, and there's no reason to give him one, but if a terrible Ritual Monster like the Hungry Burger can get an Archetype, then why can't the Witty Phantom? The way I would make his Archetype is primarily focusing on swarming the field with various monsters, mainly Fiend Types, weakening monsters that are superior to Witty Phantom, and above all, have the focus primarily on Level 4 Monsters. This would start with a brand new Field Spell I call the Phantom's Palace. It's effect would be all Level 4, and Rank 4, Fiend Type Monsters gain 1000 ATK and DEF, while all non-Fiend Types would lose 200 ATK and DEF times their Level and/or Rank. And every time a Level 4 Fiend Type is summoned, you can add one Level 4 Fiend Type Monster from your deck to your hand, except for the Monster you summon. As for the monsters, I always believe that the weak Level 4 Fiend Types would rally alongside the Witty Phantom in hopes that they can be seen as a threat. Monsters like the Dark Titan of Terror, Three-Headed Geedo, and a few others would be part of the Archetype, with each one having an upgraded form. Each of the upgraded forms would have the effect where they are always treated as a Witty Phantom card, as well as the effect where they can be special summoned from the hand if you send their specific Monster from the field to the Graveyard. And when they are summoned this way, their levels, which would originally be Level 7 or 8, would be reduced to Level 4, so that they can take full advantage of the Phantom's Palace field spell. As well, each of these upgraded forms would gain an additional ability they're special summoned this way. For example, Three-Headed Geedo would upgrade into the Phantom Three-Head, the Fiend's Gardna. This monster would be 1000 ATK and DEF points stronger than Three-Headed Geedo, with its effect being that, if it was special summoned by sending one Three-Headed Geedo from the field to the Graveyard, not only would it level be lowered from 7 to 4, but it also gains the effect where other Level 4 Fiend Type Monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. This card is unaffected by any of your opponent's card effects. Finally, the Witty Phantom would gain several upgraded forms, due to him being the boss of this Archetype. And even gain a few new forms that originated in the Extra Deck. Which includes a Fusion form, Synchro form and an Xyz form. This would include the ultimate boss form; The Witty Phantom Lord, Lord of Wicked.
Ye those first 3 card are iconic
It's coll there are loads more now
We were waiting for this deck, and expecting more decks build around atems cards
I sometimes use this archetypes in Master Duel, its rather interesting and fun
Wow my friend you cooked up quite idea if the Took a Level in Badass became it own deck I totally forgot the witty phantom for a moment
So we have the fusion monster for Berfomet and Mirror Swordknight. So now we need a fusion monster for Gazelle and Cornfield! 🤞
We also have many spellcaster cards that are illusion based.
One of my favorite decks in master duel
