Should point out that "If this card battles a monster, neither monster is destroyed" effect actually does have an origin in the anime and manga. During Pegasus and Yugi's first duel in the anime, when Illusionist Faceless Magician and Dark Magician battled against each other, Pegasus used the Eye of Illusion spell card to make it so neither monster was destroyed by battle. The fact that the card designers were able to pull a gameplay mechanic out of something that was over two decades old at that point is just wild to me.

Definitely a favourite archetype of mine, I love how they handled the new Chimera cards and the flavour and designs of all the new Illusion monsters are so cool.
Can you really count Archfiends? I mean, Yugi only ever played 2 Archfiends in his deck. Sure, the manga seemed to imply Summoned Skull was his original ace monster in his first duel with Kaiba, but it never got much in the way of special treatment after that beyond being "one of Yugi's strong monsters who isn't Dark Magician." Then it got replaced by Gilfer in Battle City and didn't get another mention until the anime version of Yugi and the Pharoah's last duel.
You know it a shame that celtic guardian mystical elf and feral imp never got within the Chimera Archetype also love how your doing yugi deck spawns first before moving on to other decks
For real, Obnoxius Celtic Guardian fits right in with the whole aspect of the "If this card battles an Opponent's Monster, neither are destroyed by Battle", considering the original was about surviving bigger monster attacks and Yugi notoriously led with the card, only for it to lose its encounters
Aesthetically i think a retrain of Feral Imp would have worked better than the Mirror Knight for Chimera support. Mirror Knight can definitely stay as generic Illusion Support
Celtics Guardian probably never had a chance to get picked as Chimera support to begin with. Except for the Fiend-Alignment Berfomet, all of the retrains for the Chimera archetype are connected by virtue of having the Dreams alignment in the games they appear in, Dreams being the localized version of what is known as Illusion Magic in Japan. Cornfield Coatl and Mirror Swordknight were chosen because they're constructed cards from Dark Duel Stories with the Dreams alignment, and they were likely picked over the others due to having very striking visual designs, since a lot of the other constructed Dreams monsters have similar or inferior stats to them, or have awkward levels and stat combinations. There are other cards originating as retrains of older cards that weren't covered in this video, but all of them also had Dreams alignment in the games (Tao and Golgoil) to justify Illusion retrains.
This gives me an idea for a fusion retrain of “Wall of Illusion”, “Castle of Dark Illusions” and “Labyrinth Wall”: _Labyrinth Wall Castle of Darkest Illusions_ (DARK) Level 12 Pendulum Scales: 13⬅️➡️0 _If this card would be placed in your Pendulum zone by card effect: You can Special Summon it instead, and if you do, it gains the following Pendulum Effects as Monster Effects. If it does, apply its ATK for damage calculation. If this card would be Special Summoned, you can instead place it into your Pendulum Zone, and if you do, it gains the following Monster effects as Pendulum Effects. you know, i have to argue why Guardian Chimera is in here and not the Guardian archetype video when Guardian Chimera fits like a glove there (i.e requiring a spell to be summoned, and an effect that only works with that spell)
I know it wasn't mentioned because it's not in the archetype, but it kinda fits and I use it in my chimera system. I suggest Behemoth the King of a Hundred Battles. Sounds similar, and it's a good way to get gazelle versions out
Glad to have had the privilege of meeting you yesterday during the game. Not often I get to nerd out about yugioh to a yugioh content creator 🤣 made my night to be fair! Keep up the good work bro! 💎🐉 🍻👊
I actually have a video idea it’s basically what Yugioh decks would characters from different anime series play. Like for example some of the characters from Fairy Tail such as Team Natsu, Team Shadow Gear, the Struss Siblings, and ect.
4:36 i think i see the eye. it is kind of hard to tell but it looks like it is behind the monster in the art. specifically, on the wall and rotated 90 degrees. hard to tell though.
Would be awesome if they expanded this archetype using more of the monsters from that game. And it’s also great that gazelle and berfomet have their own unique archetype now
You know what monster I think should get his own Archetype? The Witty Phantom. I don't know why, but the Witty Phantom is one of my nostalgic cards in Yu-Gi-Oh. And yeah, he's not the best, and there's no reason to give him one, but if a terrible Ritual Monster like the Hungry Burger can get an Archetype, then why can't the Witty Phantom? The way I would make his Archetype is primarily focusing on swarming the field with various monsters, mainly Fiend Types, weakening monsters that are superior to Witty Phantom, and above all, have the focus primarily on Level 4 Monsters. This would start with a brand new Field Spell I call the Phantom's Palace. It's effect would be all Level 4, and Rank 4, Fiend Type Monsters gain 1000 ATK and DEF, while all non-Fiend Types would lose 200 ATK and DEF times their Level and/or Rank. And every time a Level 4 Fiend Type is summoned, you can add one Level 4 Fiend Type Monster from your deck to your hand, except for the Monster you summon. As for the monsters, I always believe that the weak Level 4 Fiend Types would rally alongside the Witty Phantom in hopes that they can be seen as a threat. Monsters like the Dark Titan of Terror, Three-Headed Geedo, and a few others would be part of the Archetype, with each one having an upgraded form. Each of the upgraded forms would have the effect where they are always treated as a Witty Phantom card, as well as the effect where they can be special summoned from the hand if you send their specific Monster from the field to the Graveyard. And when they are summoned this way, their levels, which would originally be Level 7 or 8, would be reduced to Level 4, so that they can take full advantage of the Phantom's Palace field spell. As well, each of these upgraded forms would gain an additional ability they're special summoned this way. For example, Three-Headed Geedo would upgrade into the Phantom Three-Head, the Fiend's Gardna. This monster would be 1000 ATK and DEF points stronger than Three-Headed Geedo, with its effect being that, if it was special summoned by sending one Three-Headed Geedo from the field to the Graveyard, not only would it level be lowered from 7 to 4, but it also gains the effect where other Level 4 Fiend Type Monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. This card is unaffected by any of your opponent's card effects. Finally, the Witty Phantom would gain several upgraded forms, due to him being the boss of this Archetype. And even gain a few new forms that originated in the Extra Deck. Which includes a Fusion form, Synchro form and an Xyz form. This would include the ultimate boss form; The Witty Phantom Lord, Lord of Wicked.
Part of me wished they could’ve stayed with just fiend and mythical beast cards that branch into their own fusion cards but it’s neat that they got support.
I got a new video idea when you were talking about the Illusion counter part to the Dark Magicians. What effects would OG vanilla monsters have in the original series. I really like how the TCG invented goofy words to replace words that came from real-world mythologies as a form of censorship. Then these goofy words become so iconic in the TCG that they become their own thing barely resembling the myths they were inspired by. Baphomet became Berfomet Hades became Ha Des Perseus became Parshath among many others And even though this isn't from mythology, I still find it so funny that Tornado became Trunade.
I love how even tho I don't play anymore, I've been around so long I need no introduction on these classic cards. I'm glad these old cards get love by retrains, Art, or lore.
Oh, wow. They really went deep into the archives for these illusion monsters. Video game only cards from the GameBoy era??? There's still hope for every "non-canon" card to show up someday.
Really curious if anyone has tried combining these different archetypes together (DM, Gaia, BLS and now Phantom Beasts) to try and make a modern version of Yugi's deck. It would be a barely playable hodge podge due to many of the cards not working together, but it would be fun to see lol
It wouldn't be great. Though while it may seem like cheating, you could combine BLS with any of the others just by using the Link monster BLS - Soldier of Chaos to represent the BLS archetype. A Link 3 that needs 3 materials has to be worth using but Soldier of Chaos being able to get Dragoon level protection just as long as one of the materials is a Level 7 or higher monster is worth it. And it starts with 3k ATK which you can keep stacking so it becomes even more difficult to deal with.
The Illusion monsters on Master Duel isn't complete yet, but able to be strong, aggressive and somehow can even go against decks like Tenpai and Centurion. And that's within the event happening right now.
I kinda wish they would give us support to synergise with the og phantom beasts. I run 2 of them in my chimera deck, and they do come in clutch sometimes. They also brick b/c I cant fuse them to make anything except guardian chimera.

Where are the other phantom beast cards that do not work with this deck??
(Cross-Wing, Rock-Lizard, Wild-Horn, and Thunder-Pegasus)
but they do work? their effects target gazelle & chimera (+ the fusions that treat themselves as chimera the flying mythical beasts)
I had no idea this archetype existed
Suppose there’s a chance for Gazelle fusions with Corn and Mirror in the future as well as Mirror/Corn fusion. No reason Befromet gets the fusion love.
I think this archetype has potential to be amazing. Give them more cards and more fusions, maybe a form of Gazelle combining with other monster. Please dont mess this up
We need a Archetype Update from Sky Striker Archetype 🤔
Celtic Guardian needs love, given its many anime appearances AND Its retrain into Obnoxious Celtic Guardian.
Now, lets have him cover the summon skull series
Oh yeah my favourite cards monster gazelle and berfomet nice
4:57 and technically "mecha phantom beast".... imagine if thye make a "phantom beast" retrain that somehow ties both of those archetypes... and relinquished / eyes restrict, who originally were illusion monsters
10:04 did you know this card's effect is a reference to the anime?
11:34 which it shows, as it looks like original chimera fused with cornfield coatl + mirror swordknight
13:17 considering the illusion monsters have the equivalent of yugi's dark magician & dark magician girl, wonder if we will get other cards that are yugi references. like a summoned skull reference that is an illusion monster
I'd love to hear a breakdown of the myutant archetype. I feel it's not talked about enough
I really like how the TCG invented goofy words to replace words that came from real-world mythologies as a form of censorship. Then these goofy words become so iconic in the TCG that they become their own thing barely resembling the myths they were inspired by.
Baphomet became Berfomet
Hades became Ha Des
Perseus became Parshath
among many others
And even though this isn't from mythology, I still find it so funny that
Tornado became Trunade.
My dads in the illusion archetype😢😢😢
Illusionist Faceless Mage should have been part of this archetype.
First cyverse , then cyborg and now allusion we’re getting a whole new error of different Yu-Gi-Oh! monsters aren’t we?
Hope you'll consider doing the Galaxy-Eyes archetype next
The Illusion monsters on Master Duel isn't complete yet, but able to be strong, aggressive and somehow can even go against decks like Tenpai and Centurion. And that's within the event happening right now.
Funny enough this deck is extremely competitive and well positioned against tenpai and snake eyes
The card have two eyes of widget on the sides of his head on his horns.
I kinda wish they would give us support to synergise with the og phantom beasts. I run 2 of them in my chimera deck, and they do come in clutch sometimes. They also brick b/c I cant fuse them to make anything except guardian chimera.
We were waiting for this deck, and expecting more decks build around atems cards
Ye those first 3 card are iconic
It's coll there are loads more now
4:39 on his finger like a ring
Was Chazz About to Defeat Jaden (since the White Knights are basically the anime version of the Phantom Beasts)
I wanna hug this guy so badly 😭😭😭
I sort of knew about these cards from Modern games. But I had no idea they were connected to the old school games.
Still waiting for the Koaki' meiru archetype 🙏🏻😭
I absolutely love this deck! I play it all the time irl and on Master Duel
One of my favorite decks in master duel
Minotaur would be badass as support
