Wing Chun Kung Fu vs MMA - Ding Hao vs Xu Xiaodong & Yu Changhua vs Xiong Cheng Cheng

- Xu Xiaodong, the MMA fighter who destroyed that Tai Chi wind-bender wannabe Wei Lei, finally got another set of officially sanctioned fights together, this time against two self-proclaimed Wing Chun "masters." The fights are epic and telling. One is by Xiaodong against one of the "four great Wing Chun masters in China" Ding Hao 丁浩. The other fight (3:57) is Xiong Cheng Cheng 熊呈呈 (not Yi Long, though they kind of look alike) against Ip Man lineage Wing Chun Master Yu Changhua (余昌华). Changhua is also Ding Hao's coach or Shifu. Also, there was supposed to be no kicks, but there were kicks thrown. So if we looked at what happened, they basically followed Sanshou rules. These fights show what works and what doesn't work, as well as the need for weight classes. Hope you enjoy our commentary and research on the fighters. I could be wrong but my BS meter is going off the charts after reading that comment.
You keep saying "why are you trying to grapple him? stop trying to grapple him"
The wing chun guy is being pulled down by a shirt grab and repeatedly punched and/or kneed. Thats not "grappling" what the hell are you talking about. He has had his posture broken and is being kept unbalanced.
He is not trying to grapple.

Facts, if that wing Chun guy stood in the real wing Chun stance, he would have been beaten up more brutally, but he's smart, he didn't follow the real wing Chun, the real wing Chun says " Keep your feet on a squared up position " , which in a fight, is a ridiculously stupid thing to do
I'd bet that that position is based on the idea that you will never get grappled. I think it's clear that it's based on blocking your opponent's arms and counter-attack before he recovers his position. That's why they have the arms and hands in that standard position. And I don't think a master would tell you that you should keep your "squared position" if you get caught.
In any case, that guy really didn't seem very experienced. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the problem was not what "martial art style" he was using.
That's false, the squared up wing chun stance is supposed to be a training handicap, not how you fight in a real fight. Source: trained bjj and mma back in the day, been around combat sports over 20 years, sparred with people who have fought on ufc cards, yet a wing chun teacher toyed with me worse than anyone. Over the years we had a lot of guys at a lot of different gyms come in with black belts in win chun, karate and other more traditional martial arts and none of them ever stood a chance with a pro fighter let alone a legit amateur. Obviously there is always an exception to things in the world pretty much unanimously those guys got pieced up on the feet and completely destroyed when taken down. There were a few guys with taekwondo backgrounds that lit people up with some nice high kicks and turning sidekicks but in every case those guys were extremely athletic, like prime physical specimens that could move in ways that most people just cant, which makes more of a statement for raw athletic talent than it does for traditional martial arts like wing chun.

Did you guys notice how Wing chun guy fighting Xu Xiao Dong started with a traditional Wing Chun stance, but after eating some punches, he learned, intuitively and by instinct, to do a proper guard? 3:21, compare it to his initial stance xD
Yes I noticed that very clearly I also noticed how their clinch at times turned into hockey style fighting with grabbing each other's clothes however the mma guy still used boxing styled pivots in his punching and that's why the punches had power. Wing Chun guy isn't whack in my humble opinion he just isn't striking that hard as he should he has the character of a warrior never giving up and adapts very quickly. Give him proper Muay Thai training and do a rematch and he can really win
@@amartya9034 wing chin can’t really produce power, or at least as much as boxing. Too speed focused
@@trymii5396 Exactly why I recommended Muay Thai, his speed is fantastic he just needs some powerful strikes to multiply his speed with and he seems to like clinching too. @Ian-yf7uf not even that, most "masters" don't even do physical exercises because they think it isn't needed, and because of that their blows aren't as strong, and what have been a pretty good martial arts class becomes bad.

i love the referee how to stop the fight..he was flying 😂😂😂
I have trained in Wing Tsun a few years back. I remember going to a class to try it out after having watched the Ip man movie. Lol. Having had a background in thaiboxing I was questioning wether or not Wing Tsun would really work for self defence, which is what it is made for. I think I stayed an hour after class just talking to one of the instructors. I actually did deem it to be functional and worth my time so I started training there. And to be fair the instructors did surprise me with the speed and strength of their punches. However, there are alot of techniques that would be extremely hard to pull off in reality. And I wonder how much of the striking techniques would be replaced with just regular brawling in an actual fight. Because it does feel very unnatural to punch like they do.
I was still under the impression that Wing Tsun would be a good choice for self defense if you had a lot of time to practice... years. But after having watched this I don't know anymore. This is just embarrassing.
I agree the punching was different for sure. I think different schools teach with emphasis on different areas. Like some are heavy on the form and movements while others want you work on releasing your energy at the moment of impact or slightly before it idk I had someone translating everything for me at that time it was a lot to take in. The training was cool tho them brass rings and super slow chain punching was killer
thing is wing tsun also has a lot of illegal strikes in mma built into the form such as eye strikes/gouging, claw grabs to the throat, and olbique kicks which is stomping down on opponents knees and ankles which made jon jones the most hated person in the sport. Just to name a few things the real stuff is made for life and death and self defense in the street and is not meant to be a sport.

Chinese Martial Arts are so good in movies but in real life they are just Spiritual Exercise/ Mental Exercise. Western Fighting Style like MMA is brutal and designed for fights.
not exactly. Chinese martial arts for the Chinese is like escalation of warfare. When ever Chinese martial arts was prominent it was because either people didn't fight or know how to fight. With Martial Arts being the weapon of choice when unarmed. MMA wasn't designed for fights. It was the natural evolution of fighting. What was most effective to win a confrontation when rules go out the window. Martial Arts held that crown, but we explored other possibilities when thinking about effectiveness in winning at all costs with no restrictions. I mean BJJ and Wrestling was pretty much borderline MMA already, but with rules.
The problem with the Chinese and their respect for martial arts is that they refuse to see beyond that. They assume that MMA is a savage beast like art. MMA may not have any spirit, but it wasn't meant to be. It is a technique mindset. It transcends the ideology of spiritual connection, by putting the mind to the body. Not mind to the spirit. Old Chinese soldiers fought with MMA -ish style, they were hated for being soldiers obviously. But that is also why they don't see MMA as a art, but a weapon. When really Martial Arts itself was a weapon until somebody said it is spiritual.
The peace loving martial arts wasn't even something ancient either. maybe 1k years, compared to the 5k years of history they have. In those 5k years back, soldiers practiced military martial arts, like the Romans and the Spartans, it included MMA-ish like fighting when unarmed. There is some evidence proving Martial Arts originated from Military Martial Practices.
Well Chinese Martial Arts is effective. It’s just depends on how you use it, when you use it, and your skill.

I pity Ding Hao in that I can relate with him. I spent years training in sport karate until recently when I joined an Mixed Martial Arts gym, because of the lockdowns had forced the local traditional martial arts schools to close, and forced them out of business. I have been training for about year learning how to grapple. Thinking that I was ready I attended my first true MMA class that involves both striking and grappling, and we all know what Mike Tyson said plans right?
"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
I was almost knocked out. I mistakenly thought that my karate and the few times I trained in kick boxing, boxing, and taekwondo would be enough. My coach then forbidden from sparring for the rest of the class. In the grappling portion it was just as bad as I was submitted, knocked around, taken down and thrown about like a rag doll. It was very humbling.
And what Jerry said is very true, Traditional Martial Artists need to innovate and change with the times, and you cannot learn from watching RUclips videos all day. You can only learn from training consistently, eat right, get a good night's sleep, stay healthy and hygienic and hitting the mats.
I like how the "Masters" no longer use there kungfu stance after 60 seconds in the fight.
where are the HP bars! damn.

Let's just face the facts that Kung-Fu only looks awesome in the Movies.
MMA is the Reality.
MMA is sport, self defense is reality - Where they teach throat strike, kick to groin, eye poke...
Donnie Yen made MMA looks amazing in movies too, watch the fight scene from flash point
Efren Trinidad III you are right.
MMA looks good only in the cage, guns are the reality
@@debaterofeverythingpresent2775 you lose your gun or run out of ammo and then you are nothing, even soldiers learn krav maga to supplement their weapons training
When you questioned why he didn't throw kicks, I thought of "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". He prob never been in a real fight before and resorted back to his instincts which is to wildly swing with bad form.
This was on madlads basically this guy calls out fake Chinese martial artists and fights them. the amount of backlash and censorship he received is insane. Definitely worth a search
That's not fair!?..the mma guy is not following the movie script!, its not meant to be real?, where's the director? 😂

Would be so cool if a Wing Chun master showed up to an mma fight and started busting out with some ip man level of fighting like in the ip man movies.

The BEST style is NO style - Bruce Lee
That's funny coming from the Steven Seagal of his day.

Bruce lee was a 130lb skinny Chinese with flashy moves. I know pretty much all his fancy flips, kicks. I can do a 2 finger push up too, and I can do corks, side flips, back flips, back handspring... all the flips on ground.
I'm telling you all that is useless in a fight. you are always off balance, and can't see where the fk your going, burning tons of energy. god forbid you should mess up, or get pushed mid air, you'll probably hurt yourself landing and be out.
it does however look really cool!

Ip man is only so glorified because he was bruce lees teacher at one pount. Bruce realized when he got here that the traditional arts were limited and not always effective so he set out on a journey and started mixing and learnig what worked and what did not.
Ip man’s a piece of shit
Love this!
These guys have practiced enough where there technique allows them to stand in front of an opponent for a bit of time, but their skills have probably never been pressure-tested enough in full-on stress of combat.
I have a black belt in Shotokan and I always felt like it was never going to really work in a real street fight. Fortunately, I was also brought up on the streets so I know how to streetfight as well. The problem with all martial arts is it assumes that your opponent will behave with rules and specific behaviors but street fights don't have rules and your opponent is usually crazy.
Steve Patterson exactly lol
I mean the form of taekwondo I learned regularly involves finishing and teaches the use of all of the bodies weapons. Meaning if you gotta bite someone's finger off you gotta do it. We also teach firearms

I think any of the martial arts work as long as you apply to it real fighting and not some Samurai battlefield scenario.
Matthew Baumann most can some can't. But I really dislike when people treat MMA like a martial art. It's more like a salad made from different ones
Dana White should hire that ref for the UFC.

MMA fighter came prepared even down to the clothing. While the Jet Li impersonator came to the fight wearing a frickin suit, which is easy to grab and fling around, the MMA guy's apparel is very difficult to grab.
this is what happens when you dont spar with intent in your training.
Yeah the wing chun guys clearly hadn't been in a fight for a very long time.
I wonder if we'd see something valuable if they practiced their techniques with some proper sparring sessions.
Leclwrd I think there's definitely martial arts styles that can be successful. Wonderboy and Machida (prime machida) and even GSP come to mind for the karate style though GSP became more relevant with his dominant wrestling, I believe Benson Henderson had a tae kwon do background and Muay Thai is hugely successful as a weapon in MMA. The only thing with MMA is you have to have a ground game otherwise it's easy to get dominated by amazing grapplers like the Khabibs , Woodley , Cormier etc guys.
exactly
captain beaver_man That's not true. Look at tony Ferguson he doesn't spar with anybody and he is lightweight champion. He wasn't using win chun.

Imagine throwing a master in MMA like Khabib in there with those "masters" 😂😂😂. Ambulance will get used that night.
Man that would be first degree murder hahahaha khabib eats them alive and just to be competitive he would fith two bullshitos at the same time
It looks like they aren't fighting on a softened surface. They don't need Khabib, that would be an epic overkill. Any competent judoka/wrestler/grappler will murder them with the first slam or throw. Getting supplexed, thrown on your head or slammed in a hard floor, especially if you don't know how to land properly, is an express ticket to the hospital and potentially to a wheelchair.
Khabib is UFC champ d

i bet modern kung fu is a scam, thanks to communist cultural revolution, all real martial arts were replaced by gymnastics and dancing.. all real masters were executed due to their kung fu beliefs.. now lets kick the modern kung fu and show them why kung fu is an epic fail in today's streetfight.

How well do you think jeet kune do would do ? The martial art developed by bruce lee
@@Amir-iz8eh Against the masters, pretty well. It probably wouldn´t do a lot against the MMA fighters tho. MMA had 30 years of development as had so many different people from so many different backgrounds adding their knowledge to it. A fighting style developed by one guy couldn´t compare
Jeet Kune do takes all the best parts of multiple different styles and gets straight to the point.
In my opinion based on what I have learned through martial arts if it was Bruce lee against an MMA fighter Bruce lee would win.
The problem with many martial artists is that they aren’t willing to accept and integrate different styles into theirs but MMA fighters and Bruce lee do this extremely well.
@@bendakstarkiller9923 why would Bruce lee win tho? In the 70s grappling and immobilizing combat sports like BJJ and wrestling weren’t really famous and Bruce lee didn’t practice them. A MMA fighter would just take the battle to ground and win.
