  • We made skylights for less than £100, and they're awesome! Follow our step-by-step video on how we made them, what tools we used and what materials you'll need. Therefore, anyone with basic DIY skills can do it.
Our budget couldn't stretch to buying campervan skylights, so we had a go at making our own. Also, we wanted the feeling of being outside, so we needed lots of natural light and ventilation. Something campervan-specific skylights couldn't match.
Our skylights are 1000x435mm, made from pallet wood, old bed slats, and off-cuts of aluminium and perspex. The total cost was £63.00.
We made this video to help novice and experienced installers alike.
Each step details how WE made and installed DIY skylights to OUR campervan, be aware that other Luton vans could be slightly different.

This video is amazing! Can I ask how they've held up in our beautiful English weather? How effective was the seal around the opening on the roof?

Thank you Amy. English weather, fine. However, in Bosnia last year in 36deg heat the sealant melted a bit and caused them to leak. Also, a gust of wind got under one and cracked the perspex.
We've changed the perspex and used C1 adhesive and sealant and they're much better.

      Hey Mike,
Exciting, glad the video was helpful to you 👍. It will transform the feel of the van once all that extra natural light comes in. You won't regret it 👌.
      Regards,
      Jolly

I'm on my 2nd attempt because the wood and perspex don't seem to want to stay together!
I've used tiger seal on the second attempt.
Any tips on what I might be doing wrong...

Cool video. how did they hold up?

    • @vandercampadventures
      @vandercampadventures  Месяц назад

Hey, we've had to make a few repairs and modifications along the way but overall they've held up well. They bring so much light into the living space, especially in winter so it feels like your outside and not in a dark cave like most vans.
After a trip to Bosnia, the 36+ degrees heat for several weeks melted the sealant which caused them to leak. We resealed them with CT1 adhesive and sealant and it's done a better job.
Also the wind caught one of them and cracked the perspex so that had to be replaced.
