- GR Yaris Bilstein B16 Coilover Install + Road Review
It's no secret of just how good the GR Yaris is out of the box, but that doesn't mean improvements can't be made. We try out the Bilstein B16 Coilover suspension kit that NTP have developed for Time Attack use. Can it turn the little GR Yaris up to 11?
We take a closer look at the kit, fit it to the car then get out on the road to give our feedback.

good to know there is more in the Yaris...guess the Corolla GR also shows what the engine can handle
Yes, assuming Toyota haven’t made any changes to the internals it shows the engine is good for 300bhp which having had that in this is an absolute riot.
Watching you toss around the box had me thinking, damn Imran ain't skipping arm day. Then you say it's empty....ooooh. lmao
Edit: So for the every day user is the price of addmission worth the increase over the MSS kit? I like the height, it's not too low. Still has a touch of gap. Almost looks like it needs wider tires.
It all depends on your budget really. It’s an impressive upgrade, and the difference would be even bigger if you used the car on track. The MSS we had fitted did a great job of letting us lower the car and not lose any handling/comfort.
The car can definitely take some spacers or a lower offset wheel yes.
Makes sense. Budgets are relative aren't they. Expensive for one person, is pocket change for another.
Yes, and the Yaris is an interesting owner spread, from the person who has it as their only car to the person who has it as a fun toy to use when the weather is bad for their more collector cars.
Did you lower the front and rear by 25mm? For road use you adjusted it to 3: did you try 1 or 2 for greater comfort? How much did NTP tell you about the track?
An *Eventuri* intake would take priority over any upgrade 🌬💨
Eventuri intake is a great first mod to these, adds some power, sharper throttle response and some drama with intake sounds!
Great video, nice to see the install process in detail. Car looks so composed through those twisties!
Good video, massive love for the GR, Toyota finally doing more performance models. Will be good the see the Yaris a bit lower with maybe some spacers or lower offset wheels.
There’s a lot of adjustability in the suspension to lower it as much as you want. We followed NTP’s advice for optimal handling setup, that will be fine tweaked when we take it for a proper geo setup.
The standard wheels are so light it’s hard to change them, but maybe it’s time we did something 🤔
@@EvolveAutomotive I look forward to seeing the changes you make. I’m sure the result will be quality as always.
@@EvolveAutomotive Take a look at String Theory Garage's 21.5mm spacers.
Thanks for this, something to think about in future on my car although it's a growing list! Interesting that both you and Litchfield (via Dan Prosser) say that the point of aftermarket suspension changes is to settle the ride down, make it more compliant on the road, that out of the factory it's a bit too busy. Is that a fair summary?
The Bilstein’s are just more… competent. They can handle more complex inputs and take it in their stride, where the standard suspension would begin to become unsettled over certain things.
Sadly the link doesn’t work for price, not sure why you didn’t say it’s xyz at the time of filming, not to worry, cheers for the great video 👍
Be interested to see how these compare to the Nitrons Litchfield use
Bilstein’s road orientated suspension such as this B16 kit has no requirement for a service every few years/mileage based which we think is a big plus.
@@EvolveAutomotive Thanks for the response. Is pricing available yet or still to be finalised?

@@EvolveAutomotive Cheers👍
It's been sometime, but I would definitely want to know detailed specifications of the GRMN Bilstein suspension. Coming from Japanese videos, that I can't understand, it seems it can take both tarmac and gravel.
Is Bilstein b16 comfortable and compliant on London roads? Or no way?
B16 are a very good fast road setup, but would not describe London roads as ideal for a most performance orientated setup.
@@EvolveAutomotive thanks for your reply. What would you say in your opinion would be the best setup for comfort with a lowered look? Is air ride really comfortable do you know?
For a GR Yaris?
@@EvolveAutomotive no Volkswagen caddy 😂 I know it’s a very general question but even if I go on RUclips and type is air ride comfortable. Nothing comes up it’s crazy.
Thanks for the vid! What spring ratio does the kit use?
Love the car-porn soundtrack. LOL
I'm suprised you haven't sold the Supra as you haven't done much work on it.
It will be going soon. Just waiting on the bodykit development to finish.
Hey there great video! I’m debating between b8+MSS suspension sports kit vs Bilestein B16 pss on my 2017 Non EDC BMW 440i xdrive (non edc). 90% daily drive 😂 any suggestion?
Bilestein b8*
If 90% of your usage is daily driving I think the B8 + MSS would be the better combo.
I love your beat choices for the B-roll, would be nice if you had a playlist for all these lovely beats you use in your videos. 🙂
That is a very good idea!
What are the weight differences?
Plz share wrap color code
Need some f90 m5 content 🙃
My thoughts are, if it's better to spend the money in a suspension like the Bilstein or to put it into Verkline parts to improve the stock one (or a later suspension upgrade)
We haven’t tested the Verkline parts to be able to comment on that.
@@EvolveAutomotive , oh I've didn't expect you to comment or evaluate that! It was just a question I was asking myself, when I watched your video. Bilstein suspensions are very good, no doubt and doing both would probably the best and most expensive solution, as always...
Kw is better why now kw ??
We have had good experience with Bilstein over the years and are continually impressed with their products.
@@EvolveAutomotive ok no problemo so @evolve recomends bilstein ? Ok
We do yes. Not to say KW are bad, it’s just our preference based on 15 years of experience.
We do not no, have installed a few kits over the years with no complaints.
Road comfort compared to stock? We have really bad b-roads in southern Italy 😭
Slight reduction in comfort but worth the trade off
@@EvolveAutomotive thanks a lot
Are you still running and developing the jb4 unit? or have you changed to ECU remapping now it has been cracked?
We still have it and are really happy with it, but have also started ECU tune development. The JB4 is a good alternative still but think most customers will choose an ECU tune.
@@EvolveAutomotive what sort of figures would i see with a jb4 on just a stock car? i think ill go for a box as it is so much easier to remove come dealer visits
We have done purely road testing with it, but it was very quick. Certainly felt stronger than a car we drove with another box on it. Plus we love JB4s customisability.
would love to see some of yours at autotopnl again!
greetings
Perhaps the next project 👀🤫
