- We absolutely love our GR Yaris, but one thing we've never loved is the exhaust sound. This is where Akrapovič comes in, a company that needs no introduction when it comes to exhausts. Their recently launched Titanium Slip-On Race exhaust and Evolution Link Pipe promise to save some weight over the standard system and give the car a unique sound. Does it work? We fit it and find out!

Now it sounds as good as it looks massive improvement.
Akrapovic is easily one of the best exhaust co’s at the moment. For cars and bikes they’re just great quality. (Expensive tho).
My daily driver is a C7 Corvette. As soon as I found out about the GR Yaris, I was seriously impressed. They really need to sell these in the states!
GR Corolla is coming soon and will be as close as you guys get, hopefully it’s good!

Sounds good that. I have the HKS Legamax on mine and it’s barely louder than stock but has nice tips anyway lol. I need your intake pronto! Have the GruppeM that’s currently an expensive paperweight as runs rough!
It's hard to tell by video if a product is quality but from the video the Akrapovic system looks premium. It's sad you'll never see it after it's fitted also.
i live in the states so we dont get the yaris here. ive just been doing some investigative work for the GR corolla and this is def the best exahsut system ive heard so far for this motor

It’s worth the extra money, TRUST ME.

Big improvement. Sounds amazing. Akrapovic comes with a premium for sure. Did you look into HKS? Their systems usually sound awesome.
I like the idea of replacing the opf with a resonator. I want the right noise not more noise from my opf equipped B58 Z4.

I went for a sports cat but whilst it was louder, it wasn’t a great sound.
I fitted a opf delete but this was too Asbo loud for me.
I’ve now got a non opf, straight through resonator fitted and it’s almost perfect.
I just want a Remus back box now 😈

Sounds great and thinking of getting one, but I am unclear as to whether I would be road legal without an OPF? See loads of videos with it removed and people driving etc. Find it a little confusing as I was led to believe you're uninsurable and not road legal if the OPF is removed? Anyone know the facts? cheers

The ECU has been cracked by Litchfield Motors. 300hp, 2 year engine warranty, about £950 to get it done. Only issue is, the clutch can barely cope with the torque of the standard engine so adding more means you’re likely to toast the clutch prematurely if you drive it like a hooligan (as nature intended).
Also, when Toyota increased the power of the GR engine up to 300hp for the GR rolla, they changed the pistons, giving them more oil holes. Obviously it’s under more load pulling a Corolla around, but to me that does point to a Toyota having discovered a potential longevity issue with the GR’s engine.
@@Jonathan_Doe_ perfect.... drive it till it goes bang, swap in the Corolla lump and a new clutch. Job done. 😄
Yes the ECU has been cracked, quite a few tools can now do it. We’ve started some development on our own tune but it’s not a priority compared to other projects.

From our testing it seems you can delete the OPF and get no light on the dash or limp mode, which was nice of Toyota.
A previous system put a sports cat in place of it, we didn’t try it would catless downpipe however.
@@EvolveAutomotive I can confirm, put an Akrapovič full system on my GR last Friday and there are no dash warning lights.
My god that sounds soooo good. I know the mic was directed at the exhaust, but is the gr yaris whoosh sound still there when you shift? Or is it now gone because of the eventuri intake?

Sounds wonderful, literally, but how do they perform together? I mean the exhaust and the intake. What about the ECU?
Stock ECU is perfectly happy with this combo and adapts to suit the less restrictive intake and exhaust.
No CEL? I see on the Akra website it says you have to reset the ECU
We have not experienced one yet in our testing.

Are you considering putting a larger turbo on this particular car?and what the maxed power output do you want to achieve?
We haven’t done much tuning wise yet as truthfully we really enjoy driving it as it is! With the mods it has its around 300hp with stock ECU which feels really nice.
@@EvolveAutomotive but lots of us GR owners would happily pay for and enjoy a 350bhp upgrade pack and there are currently very few options.

If you want the OPF back solution only do you have to cut the original exhaust? If so why did they design it like that?
You do yes. Means it is incompatible with other front sections without also cutting them.

What is power increase over stock?
Around 16 HP
I very like that hoarse sound, but it is too loud for me. Is there an option where I can have a hoarse Akrapivic with fewer decibels? (80 decibels max)
You could retain the OPF which would make it quieter.
Looks nice, weight saving is nice.
But to my ears it doesn't sound THAT much different to others. Especially at the price this will be.. Maybe it conveys better in person?
My favourite sounding exhaust for the GRY is the HKS Super Turbo. Doesn't look great though sadly!
Out of the three we’ve tested this is our personal favourite sound wise. It’s all subjective of course.
The build quality and how it fits is absolutely spot on, definitely the best looking exhaust.
Yes that sounds very good indeed! Only other one I think comes close (based on YT clips) is HKS Hi-power Spec LII, also lighter than stock and probably a bit cheaper.
Few people have mentioned this one, hasn’t been on our radar but will check it out.
Did you do anything with the ECU on the car when you swapped the exhaust?

Yeah few tools now available to write to the ECU. We’ve started looking in to tuning ours but it’s not a priority. The roughly 300bhp of this feels really good with stock ECU software. Of course people always want more though!

Btw may be a silly question but how loud is the akra its hard to tell on video? What would be the price to supply and fit the alra, eventuri and have a dyno done?

If you ask me the Milltek sounds still better for much less $$.I have it installed on my GR and no issues at all.

No idea on any of that, took it to wrap-it vehicle graphics and asked them to make it matte black 🤷🏻♀️

yes is sounds nice but what HP does it make. That is much more important to some.
Akrapovič claim an additional 23kw. We’ve tested other OPF delete exhausts and expect it to make similar.
Sounds amazing just wish they made a street legal one I could daily with, could maybe get away with this on a weekend car
In the U.K. if you kept the OPF in place and just fitted the rear it would be legal.

Any removal of emissions equipment may no longer be road legal in your country, you would need to consult the laws regarding this in your country.
Sounds a lot like a Triumph motorcycle.
Nothing looks as good and sounds as good as the TRD quad exhaust. All big 2 tip exhausts sound very much the same, incl. the Akrapovic... they seem to lack that higher pitched snortiness, the Abarth-esque tones...

Aulitzky is definitely louder but also has the valved feature which is very nice.

It's subjective but I think the pipes look worse and don't allow any cleaning around the tips since they're so close to the plastic bodywork around them.
